View Full Version : Harmony says girl but so nervous for gender scan!! Confirmed GIRL at 16+1 :) !!!

I saw a turtle at 12+4, I convinced myself it was a little boy. After a lazy type sway, what did I expect?! At 38 I wanted to get the non invasive blood test to check baby seemed healthy as I don't trust the cubs test (my sis was high risk but baby was perfect, my friend was low risk yet her baby has ds). We told our boys after the scan along with "it looks like a boy" so they wouldn't start to have thoughts that it might be a sister!

We paid £650 privately for the test the day after my 12+4 scan. While waiting on the results, when a little bit of hope for a girl crept in, the turtle potty shot popped into my head. The tech had said "it looks too far out to turn into girl bits, but it's still early". Didn't see any lines or anything, to me it was a boy potty shot.

When the results arrived in my email (sounds dramatic but....) I braced myself to see with finality that my dream since childhood was over for the last time, the turtle had convinced me, but seeing it in writing was so final. I sobbed and struggled to catch my breath I was so blown away to see female foetus and XX on the report. I got baby girl cards for dh, my sons, my parents and sister. Bought some girly bits to surprise dh. We just kept shaking our heads in disbelief, and saying "how....?" to each other!! Then within 24 hours of a total hyper dreamlike state the doubt crept in .... WHAT IF ITS WRONG?

My bubble burst and I regret telling everyone. It's 11 days til my gender scan. My stomach goes to mush at the thought of getting on the bed for the scan and the sonographer showing me a turtle and saying it's a boy. I'll be so embarrassed and pretty heartbroken to say to people .... It's a boy again!

Just now, although feeling fairly confident in the blood result, the minute I think of the scan that confidence disappears. I still bought a few pink bits yesterday, figure I'll enjoy it while it lasts. If the report had said boy I would believe it 100%! It's just a dream I never imagined happening for real xx

I'm sure she still is a girl Hun, a potty shot at that gestation is not at all accurate as everything is very swollen and the genitalia has only just started to develop. I understand you being scared especially after the other lady posted yesterday about her harmony results being wrong, but I'm sure yours are correct. Best of luck at your scan, I'm sure you will see a burger rather than a hot dog ;) xxx

The blood test is way more accurate than a 12 week scan. I'm sure it's your girl!

I am sure it is your girl too! I totally understand your fear though. Try to not let it eat away at you. Just remember those tests are right way more than they are wrong and the potty shot is super unreliable when you looked.

Congrats Mrs Incredible!!!!!!!!!! I TOLD you potty shots at 12 weeks are unreliable, didn't I??? ;) I am sure it's a girl!
I have my Panorama this week and am sick with worry, ughhhh!!!

I had those exact same feelings when I heard girl the first go around (and really this go around too). I think it is the fear that our dream will be taken away from us. 12 week potty shot is very unreliable. There was a gal in my last due date group that was told boy on the 16 week scan and ended up being a girl. There is a potty shot of hers still on this forum somewhere. Really looked like boy bits but something was a little off. 12 weeks is so early so I would rely more on the blood test than the ultrasound. I too am getting an early gender ultrasound so I don't blame you there. Mine is this friday and I am soooo nervous!!

I felt the same way as you--so much so that I asked *not* to know gender from my Maternit21 test... I just didn't want the tiny shred of doubt, or to be thinking, "I know it's like 99% accurate, but what if I'm in that 1% and mine is NOT accurate."
But mine *was* accurate, and it's VERY VERY likely that yours will be too. :fingers: that your gender scan result matches the Harmony one.

Okay so I found it!! It is on this thread page 6 second from the bottom. There aren't three lines in this pic but it also doesn't look great for a boy?? This is why you need a really good ultrasound tech for these early gender scans!! I think hers was at 16 weeks but I can' t remember for sure now??

i'd like to mount a campaign to get any ultrasound tech guessing gender before the last half if the 13th week blackballed!!!!

It's a girl, my friend!! The way those blood tests work is that they are trying to detect Y in your blood. The only way that can really get messed up is if you had leftover Y in your blood****** from prev. pregnancies and that would make a BOY result for a girl baby, not the other way round. To my way of thinking, if they don't see any Y in your blood, there is none there to find! :)

Ms_incredible, it's a girl. :)
That's kinda why I'm not finding out, if it is a girl, I won't believe it til I see it in real life! Lol

Oh yey!! So happy for you!! I did an IG sway last time too and well, obviously that didn't work for me either ,so I'm really glad things have worked out for you this time!! I really wouldn't believe any "guesses" at a 12 week scan either x

Feeling a bit silly for all the doubting drama, why can't I be normal and just believe the blood test I paid for to get piece of mind re health of baby!?! I really just got to keep the faith!

Would you believe that I used to be a worrier and that I am much better these days, then I got pg and totally irrational again with anything to do with the baby!? Xx

(I should be feeling happy just now instead of terrified of the gender scan.... Although I am still happy but scared to believe!)

Gender scan confirmed GIRL!!! So relieved. No potty shot tho, silly tech. It was just a quick scan but she was confident it was a girl. Dh heard her say it too, it was all a bit of a blur, my heart was thumping 16+1 xx
