View Full Version : Question about Ramzi theory

Was the Ramzi theory right for you? Is it if the baby is on the left/right of uterus or left/right of yolk sac? I've read conflicting things about transvaginal scans being flipped or not, many techs say both transvag and abdom are read opposite of what you see on screen, some say it could be either way for both? And then you have to have a transverse pic, not saggital..how to tell which you have?

Very confusing! Anyway in this bub's 6w scan he/she is in the top left (transvaginal), but in the 8w scan he/she is on the right (also transvaginal)...does this mean my tech flipped one of my pics? I am grasping at clues right now before my Panorama draw! ;)

P.S. I looked at my boys' early scan pics (DS3 did not have one before 11w) and one was smack in the middle and the other was in the middle but to the left?

Sorry I have no idea. When I was pg with ds3 I heard anterior placenta meant girl.... Not for me that time. Good luck with panorama!! Xx

Yes, it means your techs were viewing the sonograms opposite of one another. I had the same experience with my daughter. The first showed a left-side image, the one the following week showed a right-side image. I asked the doc (who was doing the second scan) and he pushed a button on the machine that showed me how easily the image was flipped.

I don't think Ramzi means much unless you have an orientation (like if you watched them measure and label your ovaries or they marked the right and left side on the pic). There is also speculation that even if the yolk sac is present and you have orientation (in the correct view), that Doppler blood flow could be slightly different and that was how his theory was studied.

Basically, we can't use it with any accuracy just looking at a picture or screen.

(Additionally, I have had three anterior placentas with two boys and one girl. So I don't think that holds much water either!)

Thanks hotdogz!! With your dd's scan, did you ask which one was flipped- was it the second? Does that mean the first one was the "correct" one? Was it transvag, because mine both were...mine were both done by the same tech too.

<sigh> No they didn't mark left and right side on the pics, grr. Ok I will try to stop obsessing and just wait for the darn Panorama lol.

Unless the tech has been trained in Ramzi method and is using some weird type of ultrasound wand, the results are meaningless and I would not worry about them.

The anterior/posterior placenta thing is an old wives tale and does not predict gender in any way. I had an anterior placenta with DS 4 and DD and it didn't mean anything. :)
