Licorice root for DH - experiences please!

I'm looking in to the possibility of DH taking licorice root but I'm also planning on frequent BDing for our attempt and previously I've dismissed it as an option because I thought the latter would be impossible if he was taking it!

How has licorice root affected your DH and was he still able to frequent release/BD on it?

I read a study which said free testosterone levels were reduced by 40% within 4 days of taking it (http://medherb.com/Materia_Medica/Glycyrrhiza_-_Licorice_root_and_testosterone.htm) which makes me think it's something we should consider. It also makes me think there's no need for DH to start taking it any earlier than a few days before we begin frequent BDing, is that right? What if he starts taking it and he can't perform?!

I am interested in others experience also.I am strongly thinking of using it for dh when we ttc.If your doing frequent i can see see how lowered T and performance issues could be a problem lol but im going with abstaining anyways because dh and i usually bd every other day and got boys and then my last baby we did frequent for 11 days in a row and it was rough and we still ended up with a blue bundle.Frequent has also been shown to raise T and both dw and dh if i recall.

I wanted to abstain initially but DH said it wouldn't be possible and that if he tried not to release for too long he'd wake up in the night and find it'd happened anyway - I believe him because if we don't DTD for a few days he has really rude dreams (he talks in his sleep lol!). He also seems to get an erection at the drop of a hat (often met with me saying, oh for goodness sake not again!).

lol sounds like my dh! Thats why im prayer the licorice root helps reign in his hormones.

My dh is taking liquorice root and has been for more than 6 weeks now. He has had no problem doing frequent release but he has said he has a lower sex drive - it was very high before so I think that's a good thing!!!,

As you know hun, I'm PG from everyday bedding and DH was taking it AF-O for over eight weeks and we didn't have any problems with frequent bedding. The Licorice root made him a little moody (a bit snappy and bitchy ha ha) but it didnt cause any problems in the trouser department! I think it effects all men differently though so I suppose the best thing to do is try it out!

I think we'll have to try it out before next month. My DH took it for about 6 weeks before attempt. He said it lowered his sex drive. He survived frequent release, but it took him a little longer than usual if you get what I mean.

That's right 2 tablets a day but only AF-O!!! My DH has a very high sex drive (annoyingly so). I honestly think that it just depends on the individual and you won't know unless you try! Happy BD'ing!

My DH is like that too! I've ordered some and we'll give it a try if he can be persuaded. I just re-read the study where I saw 40% reduction in testosterone in 4 days but I think they took the equivalent of something like 8 pills! 2 pills seems like a good starting point.

My hubby took one. Not sure of the dose. He hated the taste so I could not have convinced him to take more. My DH has a very high sex drive too and it did make a significant change.

Ours where caplets with what I can only describe to you as sawdust looking stuff inside. They looked almost identical to my Vitex ones (had to be really careful not to mix them up LOL). DH didn't think they tasted of much but he moaned about having to swallow them as apparently they 'floated in your mouth' whatever that ment!!?? MEN!!

Too funny. Ours were chewable. Do not recommend it. DH ate jolly ranchers after he took it.

Let me clarify.... I don't recommend the chewable if you don't like the taste. It did seem to have the desired outcome though.

He is right, they taste like living death. I had to take them once for a stomach infection and I honestly would rather have had the stomach infection.

My husband did not take licorice but I do know several people whose husbands did and they had a lot of trouble with erectile dysfunction. A couple of them started taking Viagra even. But to me, that screams, "This is working!!!"

We looked into it and it seemed like Viagra was ok for pink.

I thought they smelled good but I love black licorice. My whole family liked it when I was groing up. I just told him to toughen up that was way easier than what I was having to do. I will tell him sorry now that you agreed they were horrible tasting.

They are NOTHING like black licorice. They do smell the same but the taste is a bazillion times worse. Poor guy!!!! But you are totally right, it's nothing compared to pregnancy/ giving birth!!!!!

Dh took one pill--that's it ONE! I have the whole bottle in the pantry--what a waste of money! I didn't even tell him about decreasing testosterone, just said it would help our sway. But after that one he said he felt uncomfortable taking any kind of meds that are not fda approved :rolleyes::rolleyes:(yes he's a doctor). He too has an increased sex drive and i felt like that one little pill made a bit of a difference. I keep telling him look what I have to do I'm just asking you to take a pill--men!

Hi, I have a question related to LR. I just have received mine. My question is about dose and lenght. I read in internet very scary things from a 50 mg superior dose, and the bottle (natures´s way brand) recomend 6 pills per day!!! So if every pill has 450 mg, what should I give him? He has no problem with arterial pressure but, I wouldn´t like to run him any risk anyway. I read by here to take 3 pills per day, which is over the recomend dose I read in internet too.... ALso I see differences between the acid it contains respect the weight of the dry plant extract, and don´t know if that´s the reason I have so many problems to find a safe dose...

The question related to lenght is because the bottle says 6 weeks maximum. Here is recommended to take AF-O only, but my question is: if sperm-genesis takes 60 days and the purpose of LR is low T and so to produce less sperm.... Wouldn´t we give our DH the LR since 2 months before our attempt?:think: I mean, if I give him AF-O the month of our attempt ( suposing I get a BFP which is nothing sure of course) these 14 days would be enough to reduce the amount of spermies that he will release for my attempt or just will reduce the production that he is "making" at this time and which be released 60 days later?

Could I give him only one pill per day starting 3 months before my attempt (so, start now) maybe it minimizes the risks on his health and ensure a low sperm production in the batch he will release and that will be "made" in a few weeks! :nails:


Also,I want to give him soy pills (one per day) and have the same question about starting now due to the production date of the batch 60 days before the attempt, and finally say that I´m going to do a 7-10 days of abstinence (I add it because I know for FR/BD low T levels would be a problem) since my DH is under 35 (well, 34 :oops:) and is healthy ( he just made himself a complete health exam with blood analisys, body organs ultrasound, effort heart test.....and fortunately he is all ok) and doesn´t work or live or stay with anything chemical or dangerous.

Oh, and I wanted to add that my grandfather has taken daily all his life since I remember him, licorice sweets, and has 3 daughters!:agree: So maybe a low dose, but continued is also effective and is there less health risk? :rolleyes:

update info: I´m giving to DH only ONE LR pill every morning (instead of 3 pills 6 weeks before which maybe is too much for him and do´t think he´ll take 3!!), and would like to give these 3 months to "cover" the production of sperm (made 2 months before) . Is it ok?
Only add , I´m also giving him a soy milk chocolate every night (which he has never touched before)
Is it all too much? sometimes I think yes, but then I think vegetarian people take much soy and still produces sperms and get pregnant....
