View Full Version : Does this sound like an infection?

Yesterday, I had my first hospital appointment, everything with baby is fine but they thought I had some infection coz there was some blood in my urine sample and was asked if I was feeling any discomfort down blow or when passing urine and I said no, none whatsoever. But anyways it was sent to the lab to be checked.
And when I woke up this morning, I was feeling a one sided pain on my left side in that area, and to be honest at first I thought it was nothing, maybe I stood up quickly or something, but I still have the pain, when I'm standing, sitting, laying down, and even sometimes when walking, but not when passing urine! Is this what it feels like when you have infection as I have no idea what it feels like? Never had one before, pregnant or not.
I won't be hearing from them until earliest Monday afternoon!
I'm freaking out and I have all sorts of questions going through my head.

Maybe a bladder infection.

Flowerlily,
What you feel is normal for that kind of infection. Id say drink lots of water and cranberry juice. If the pain is unbearable, I would suggest you call your doc and have them prep a antibiotic rx. I had a few uti's and infections during my bregnancy. Some i felt down there some I felt in my back because the infection spread to my kidneys. Uti pain can be very uncomfortable ranging from extreme burning & over excessive urination without peeing at all 😩I hope you feel better soon. Take care 💝

I hardly drink any water as it makes me sick, I just sip on some lemonade through out the day.
I was thinking of going to my GP first thing Monday morning but wouldn't they do the same thing as the hospital? I mean like, would they be able to prescribe me antibiotics straight away, just going from my description?
Anyways, it's worth a try, right? No I idea what to expect though. Maybe my Dr could even contact the hospital and ask if they have the results back?
Breath, breath, breath.
Thanks for the replies.

Flowerlily,
Yes they should give you the prescription there with no wait. They would have to test your urine again though and confirm the infection. In the mean time Id say try some cranberry juice which is usually what is recommend 😂your doc will most likely test you at the office again to confirm it and send it to the lab. Pleasant take care of this soon because these infection will get worse by the day.

I really don't know how things work in Ireland however, there has to be a doctor that is responsible for the test results that you had done yesterday. That doctor should be able to prescribe an antibiotic with a phone call. Sounds like they sent your urine to the lab. I would see what the results from the lab were and go from there.

Thanks yogi&booboo and WantingPink!
I called the hospital this am and the results aren't back yet (just what I expected) and I was advised to go to my GP first thing Monday morning and I would be able to get a prescription from them.
There's is also a night time clinic that I totally forgot about yesterday (could have gone there last night!) But I think I will try it tonight.

Yogi, I swear I tried like 3 different brands of cranberry juices last night and I couldn't keep any of them down, but I'm gonna trick myself and try them again but this time iced and with a straw.
Thanks again.

So, last night I went to the 'night time clinic' and I did two different urine samples and there was nothing! But I still have the pains.
So, just to be on the safe side I made another appointment this pm with my GP, and hopefully I will still be in the clear.
Plus she can call the hospital re the results from Friday's sample.

Could it be possible that the bleeding stopped from just drinking cranberry juice only twice yesterday? Anyways, I'll mention this to my Dr today.

I'm in the clear!:) The results from the hospital came back clear and yesterday's visit to the Dr's where I did another sample was clear too.
So, whatever I'm feeling down blow is just a pregnancy symptom.
BTW, I did mention the cranberry bit to the dr and she said it's possible, but if I my pains get worse to go to the hospital.
Thanks again ladies.

It's not uncommon in pregnancy and I had one with my last pg. Never had it before or since and no symptoms other than frequent urination and had blood in my urine. Cleared up on its own.
