I picked up a bottle of vitex. Each capsule is 80mg. I know there was a post about vitex, but in my recent searches I was unable to find it.
Do I just take one per day?

One per day, some take it AF-AF and others AF-o only, you're not supposed to take it when pg. so take an hpt each month you're on it, and stop after your attempt. FYI vitex messed up my cycles something crazy--made them very long so watch out for that!

Carmella - I'm actually taking it to try to trigger AF. I'm EBF a 3 month old / and as no sign of af to come.
Guess I should use condoms then while I await the return if my cycle.

maybe wait for atomic's advice before taking them just in case they are not safe to take whilst bf.
for a lot of people vitex messes up the cycle, i am not sure about using it to bring on AF, especially if you have a 3 month old, your body might not be ready to have an AF yet.

I hope they are! Other sites I read said it can increase supply! All advice is welcomed though, after spending hours and hours pouring over this stuff I know you guys are wonderful and really look out for each other :)

Hiya. I'm BF too and Atomic told me not to use until DS3 is at least 9mths and ideally when he's getting most of his nutrients from food. She feels that there's not enough evidence that it's safe while BF. I was hoping to take it to bring back my cycles too. DS3 is 10 months now but still feeding twice a day. I think I might take it when he's stopped feeding if my cycles don't come back naturally.

Do not take vitex or ANY herbal supplement when breastfeeding a 3 month old. I don't care what they say on any other website. It's not an issue of "supply", it's that something could possibly come out in your milk and vitex does affect hormones so you are possibly giving a child that weighs 10 lbs. max and uses your milk as their only food supply, a dose of herbs that could affect them negatively.
Taking vitex at 3 months PP will not bring your cycle back anyway. Short of weaning (which I do not and will NEVER recommend for swaying) there is really nothing you can do at this point. Your body just isn't ready to get pregnant again.
Re using condoms, it's pretty unusual if you are EBF for your cycle to come back before 6 months - it can happen of course so if you notice EWCM then take precautions, but most people it doesn't happen till after that point. You could always "go commando" LOL

Thank you - I won't take it. I'll wait. I'm just feeling the pressure of my age, and this "one more chance" mentality is getting to me. We were really hoping to start in October with Ttc, especially knowing we're probably in for a bit if a ride....
I have no plans of weaning. Keith was 20 months old when he self weaned. My cycle did come back at 9mos pp, but that's just seems so long away :(

Thank you for sharing your experience too. I'm feeling kinda silly and maybe a little selfish for wanting to move this forward.
Is your lo sleeping through the night? I think that's why brought my cycles back with ds3.
Maybe I'll get lucky and little man will follow suit.

I have a friend who had 2 girls 14mths apart while nursing. Her oldest was sleeping all night and only nursed every 4hrs during the day. If you can try to slowly extend the feeding times... 15mins everyday. If bub eats every 2hrs today then tomorrow 2hr 15m, and 2hr 30m, etc.
As far as herbs and supps while nursing it sometimes may look like your bub is growing, healthy, and so on. But you do not know the long term affects. My uncle, brother, and many friends all had fertility issues and had no choice but to use expensive medical treatments to have kids. I do know that my brother had allergies as baby and the Dr's put him on Soy Formula. And several friends of mine also have dairy allergies and only drink Soy milk and they either have been trying for years and years or they stopped soy milk for 3mth and got preg (wife).
So if soy.... something many think is perfectly safe and better to drink then milk... can have that affect. Then what can Vitex do to a growing baby. How will it affect the bub in the furture.

Oh no no please don't feel bad, sometimes I have to "talk tough" to get people's attention when I feel like it's important but I didn't mean to imply you would do anything to harm your baby in any way. just wanted to express that it's important not to take the V. :)

I'm steering clear of it - tucked it away for later.
My initial goal is to gather as much info as I can and work out a plan. When that plan will be executed is in the hands of a higher power. Maybe it never will happen, as I've lost before and time is certainly a concern.

I sure hope he starts sleeping through - he's soooo close - sometimes he does (6hrs or so), but it's rare, ESP bc we cosleep 😏 little monkey smells it and roots for it in his sleep (keeping everyone awake lol)
But ya he's napping better so sometimes I get a decent break in the day. My hopes for October Ttc are pretty unrealistic - guessing I'm looking at next spring in reality.

That is what I did when I got pg at 41 1/2. I just sent the message out to whatever higher power was listening and said 'I am turning this over to you and I TRUST that you will do right by me, whatever that may be - baby or no baby, boy or girl' and whenever I felt panicky or scared that it wouldn't happen I just did it again and tried to get back to that feeling of peace where I felt like I was in bigger hands. It did take awhile but it worked in the end.

I really don't suggest stretching out feeds for a 3 mth old. Especially when you're about to hit the dreaded 4 month sleep regression/nursathon. lol
And I don't know about anyone else, but my kids never had that kind of nursing schedule, anyway. They nursed at completely random intervals for complete random amounts of time, although they usually had a longer time nursing every 90 minutes or so. Sometimes with, sometimes without "snacks" in between. I do full on ecological breastfeeding & have somewhat reduced supply from untreated/poorly treated hypothyroidism, though.
Technically 6 hours IS sleeping through the night. 5 hours night time sleep in a row is the definition for a baby sleeping through the night.

Yep he nurses on demand, (all my boys did) and demands it A LOT lol (all my boys did lol) and lots of comfort nursing. Thanks for reminding me about the dreaded 4 Month sleep regression. Good times lol
