So...I took an OPK test yesterday morning around 7:30 and it was negative. I forgot to take an OPk stick to work with me so I tested again when I got home which was around 7:30pm. It was positive! It was bad timing though because I had to meet friends in an hour. I popped a Zyrtec and kept it moving. We decided to wait until we got back home to BD.

We ended up getting back home at 12:15am. We took hot baths. Then a little afterwards we BD. He finished around 1:20am. The penetration was still very shallow (wondering if it was a little TOO shallow) and all went well. I woke up to learn that the Clearblue OPK sticks I'd bought just two days ago were expired! Not just by a month or two either. They expired in August 2013! I was like seriously?! I think they may have still worked though since the line was faint the day before meaning a -OPK, I used a different brand the morning of the attempt and that line was pretty faint also, the line was dark at 7:30 one second and a clearer +OPK. Just wondering if anyone had any experience with this. Also, since I didn't test for the second time in the early afternoon is that a bad thing? Last time my +OPK came at 3:30 and we BD at 9:30. Just curious if I tested too late and therefore BD too late. I know we dont focus on timing really here but wanted to make sure i didnt misunderstand Atomics advice om that. Im Not really freaking out. Just more curious than anything and want to make sure I didn't waste an attempt. Thanks!! :-)

I was wondering how it went! I haven't use clear blue before but since you still managed to get negatives and a positive with them I'm sure it's fine. I thought my opk was positive the night we made our attempt but it was actually glaringly positive the next day. We still got pregnant.

I wouldn't worry about it. I think hte concern would be if they're too old to detect the LH. If you get a pos, it's a pos.

Unless you ovulated unusually early you were still well in the window of conception.

The first positive is hte one that counts, not the darkest

The instructions said the LH surge was not detected if the line was not as dark as or darker than the control line. All the times before that I tested it was way lighter than the test line. My tests looked like the negative diagrams on the box. By the time I tested the second time it was finally the same color so I did it that night. That was the correct way right?

Atomic, one last question. Say the first test I took that day (at 7:30am) was actually positive and I didn't know it because I read it incorrectly...and we ended up not finishing our BD until 1:20am that night after the second OPK stick...Does that mean bad things for a girl sway?

Does that equate to the first smiley if using a digital?

Timing doesn't sway. We're not doing this for the reason of swaying, we just want to be in with an attempt ahead of ovulation but not TOO far ahead, for best shot of conception with one attempt.

PLEASE don't overthink the timing of the OPK. the worst that happens is ya get a BFN.

Usually, or first peak on fertility monitor.

Thanks Atomic. I'm going to enjoy the ride. I'm like screw the testing everyday stuff. It was too much last time and too expensive. I'm going to test the morning of our trip and see what happens
