View Full Version : starting to get a little worried.....

I don't know if this is the place to put this but I am concerned about being able to conceive at all at this point. My plan is to try to attempt next month. My concern is that I have been working through an eating disorder for the past year or so. I have been better about my eating in this past month because I am noticing my hair falling out by the handful and my having problems with my teeth. I have been following the LE diet pretty well in the past two weeks and just doing my 60 min of cardio(used to be a couple hours a day, everyday). I have been skipping breakfast, some days it's almost 2 in the afternoon before I eat my first meal. I am probably shorting myself on fats, keeping my proteins in the 40-55 grams a day range and calories 1200-1500. I just worry that if my health is not good enough to keep my hair from falling out how on earth will I be able to produce a healthy egg? I am not taking a prenatal, just folic acid and Metamucil capsules. Honestly, the hair loss started around the same time I started taking the Metamucil, is it possible that it is absorbing too many of the nutrients in the food I am eating? I feel my body is in need of a prenatal vitamin or multi-vitamin because of my hair loss but I hate to take one and have it mess up my sway.... I am at a cross-road because I am 36 years old(next month), time is not on my side and I want to get pregnant in the first three months of trying. If anyone has any thoughts, I am all ears at this point!

You need to try and eat sooner tarasue,2pm is very late you must be starving! Are you tracking MFP? This should help you up your fats. I would also suggest a customized plan from atomic as it sounds like you don't want to lose any more weight! Im sure you will conceive! But it can take a little longer than normal it took me 4 months, im 35 and I conceived both boys first time though I was younger. Good luck honey xxx

Thank kitkat! I am starving in the days where I don't eat until 2! I get ravenous hungry, which with my history is not a good place for me to get to.... Time seems to get away from me on days my son has preschool(those are my late days). I'm not underweight, but don't want to loose any more. My bmi is at 19. I conceived both my boys first tries using opk's, so in my head I think I will only need one month to catch an egg. Realistically I know that it may take a while being I'm older and 20 lbs lighter than I was when I conceived my boys. My fertility isn't prime anymore. I still may get a custom plan, I am feeling like I missed my window for that since we will have our first attempt in a month.
I also find calorie counting is kinda triggering for me. I do use mfp but get a little anxious eating more than 20 or so grams of fat a day.
Thanks for replying, I have a lot of baggage that most others don't carry and feel like I'm almost nuisance:/

Okay Tara my BMI was about 18-19 so you have a good chance!
I too stopped MFP as I was obsessing over it and I have suffered from bouts of eating disorders so I understand! Le was a little dangerous for me too as I quite enjoyed the control of not eating. You can still get heaps of help and support without a custom plan :)
Try and think it is going to take you at least three months then you won't get too upset and hopefully you will get pg first try heaps of ladies have and got girls. Best of luck honeyXx

Nail on the head with it being "okay" to restrict, makes it really easy to try and cut back more than recommended!
I am ok with it taking 3 months, but that's it. If I am not pregnant by dec I may throw in the towel and have to be content with being a mom to two beautiful boys:). We will cross that road when we get to it of course!!

People have mentioned hair loss to me before and 99 times out of 100, upon further investigation they were taking or doing something else that had actually caused the hair loss. I would be suspecting that your issues are related to the eating disorder and have nothing to do with LE Diet.
There is NO WAY that diet and exercise and Metamucil for 2 weeks causes anyone eating a normal diet to start with, to lose hair. Period. It is biologically impossible. IT takes months of a VERY poor diet for your body to get depleted enough to cause hair loss.
That having been said, no one doing the cardio should be eating 1200 calories and the minimum fat intake is 25 grams and you should not drop below that. Increase both fat and calories IMMEDIATELY.
If you have been struggling with an eating disorder, I can't say strongly enough YOU MUST NOT DO LE DIET. It's not open for debate, it is too dangerous for you. Just go vegetarian, skip breakfast/avoid snacks, leave out the prenatal (this is not what is causing your hair loss) and eat more Omega 6 fats http://genderdreaming.com/forum/gender-swaying-general-discussion/39013-skinny-fats-pink-blue.html as outlined in this thread The nutrient tracking is a very risky thing for anyone who struggles with unhealthy thought processes about food and I do not want you to do it.

Maybe buying the diet plan with planned meals would be best? How are your protein levels? It sounds like you are eating more than enough fat, so I wouldn't up that personally. Upping cals vis carbs and maybe protein sounds wise.

I don't by any means think my hair loss is from the LE diet, it had crossed my mind to blame it on that, but I was just in denial of the bigger issue..... I have had a rough year with my ED so I am sure that is my problem there. I started taking the Metamucil tabs. about 6 weeks ago and probably just coincidence that is about when I started noticing my hair falling out. I msg'ed you Atomic about getting a personalized plan.
Maiden - I have been tracking my diet for the past 10 days, these are my numbers
Average Daily Calorie Intake: 1333 High: 1517 Low: 1126
Avg. Daily Fat g Intake: 21.7 High: 43 Low: 8
Avg. Daily Carb. Intake: 196 High: 264 Low: 146
Avg. Daily Protein Intake: 61.5 High: 87(yikes) Low: 44
Avg. Calories burnt a day in my 60 min of cardio ranges from 650-800 (via heart rate monitor)
Thanks all for your input!!!

Try to stop counting calories. I'm sure you will have a fair guestimate. I am six years post ED and this swaying stuff is pushing my buttons again. I have stopped counting calories and protein/ fat ratios. Plus trying not to be hard on myself when I cheat. The pressure to have a great girl sway is such a huge expectation. Please be careful and look after yourself.

8 g fat is unacceptible. The VERY lowest anyone should ever go is 25 g and I like to see you guys more like 30-40 range, even up as high as 60 per day allowed.

That looks great - just add some empty cals (soda, candy, white bread) and I agree, stop counting just keep the general awareness of what and how to eat. 5

Not sure if it has been mentioned, but if you have thyroid issues, it can cause hair loss. Even with being perfectly healthy otherwise.

My thyroid gets checked a couple times a year and it has never been an issue. I just had it checked again two weeks ago because I thought that might be the problem.
