View Full Version : Anyone had gender predictions wrong?

Just thought I'd start a thread here to see how many people had gender predictions that were obviously girl or boys at their NT scans that turned out the opposite at their gender (20 week) scans? Been looking into it and it seemed to happen a lot a few years back but not as much recently.

Just the last few weeks it seems to me a lot of the nub guess's have been proven wrong. I think that if it is a nt scan done around 12 weeks it is a guessing game. You are not told gender at one of these scans because it is not accurate. My ob does not do nt scans and I was frustrated about it at first! But honestly I decided it is probably for the best. I would go crazy analyzing the nub!

I think you still have a shot at hearing girl:) at what stage was your nt scan? I remember being confused at your nub! how much longer do you have to wait??

I think anything 13 weeks and up is fairly accurate given there's a nub visible. Anything under that is pretty much a guessing game and I've seen many predicted wrong.

Well, the nub picture I put up got mostly boy guesses. It was a grainy picture and very iffy.....I was told girl at my 18w ultrasound last week :) :) :)
I was 12w3d (I think) at my NT scan but measuring well over 13w. I added the link if you want to take a look. I was convinced baby was a boy.....and I'm very ok with being proven wrong!

If your scan is 12 weeks it happens ALLLL the time. After that it starts to be less common, but in all honesty, until the baby is BORN you never really know for sure and it's always best to keep it in the back of your mind.

I've been doing nub guesses for over 7 years and honestly I find the theory to be quite accurate after about 12w3d. With that said, it depends greatly upon the images captured and the perception of the person/people giving you the prediction. Video is always the most helpful as seeing the nub "live and in action" allows for a better feel for the angle.

I've heard a few were their baby was dressed in the wrong colour for the first few weeks that been boys and girls. Always said if told boy id always be certain girl not so but seems it does happen even at the 20 week plus scans x

My nub was exactly 12 weeks. I got put back 2 days which would co inside with the exact day I got my first pos OPK I got on that night then all the next day. I've come to terms with this one been a boy means I'll either have the shock of my life if they were to turn around and say girl at my 20 week scan x

I think they are around 80% accurate starting around 12 weeks and go up from there in accuracy. It also depends on the clarity of the shot. Obviously if it is not a clear image the accuracy goes way down. I also find when people say "I am X weeks, but I am measuring ahead to Y weeks" those are wrong A LOT. You really should only guess from your gestation not weeks in measurement.

I really, really, gotta say it again - nubs at 12 weeks are NO GOOD for guessing. Only if there is a giant wang at 12 weeks would I give a guess. A flat girly nub at 12 weeks means nothing. I really think all you guys should try to get your scan at 13 weeks plus and even then they could still change.
