Hi Atomic

Do you think if I walk my dog for 35-40 minutes 4 times a week (atleast) that is going against my sway? I have read that walking counts as exercise but Im thinking im not going for long enough?

Any thoughts would be great :)

If your swaying pink, isn't it possible to walk just a 20 min longer?

The body only starts to burn fat and muscle after 45 mins- this is what your aiming for with the pink sway exercise :)

Sounds like moderate exercise, I.e. sways blue.

Thanks all - does it have to be 60 min all at the same time? Or could it be 30 min am and30 minutes pm?

60 mins all at same time (from what I've read elsewhere on the site)

Yup, Sarah is correct - it does need to be all at once. If you only walk/run for less than 45 minutes (even if done 2 or 3 times a day) your body never gets into the mode where it is breaking down muscle. I did read an article that your body breaks down fat/muscle sooner if you work out an empty stomach, but I still believe it's 45 minutes minimum. I do try to always get my work outs in first thing in the morning before I've eaten anything (but after a cup of coffee) so in case I can only manage a 45-50 minute run I'm still likely getting some of the benefits.

oh dear, this is no good then. I have to walk my dog every morning and walking him for 60 minutes in the am is enough as he is just a puppy, he also gets a walk in the pm so cant do more than the 45 minutes in the am.

Does this mean, if i am doing 45min am, that it will contribute badly to my sway? :(

45 min is better than 30.

What I would do (if possible) is walk him and then back to the house quickly and do an exercise video at the end of it.

lol thanks atomic, sounds like its going to be the only way, however not sure how i will go as im getting up so early as it is to walk him for 40 minutes. We also have to drive to and from the park so not sure if getting back in the car for 6 or so minutes then getting home to do a video would even benefit... ?

Have you come across this problem with anyone else?

I even walk heaps during the day. Walk from the station to work (10 min each way) then walk around on my lunch break!

Sigh... it would be too hard for me to do no exercise unless i was in a wheel chair.

There is never an ideal situation. I wouldn't get too hung up on this. If you're very active and good on diet, then that's fine, just walk your dog as normal and don't worry about it.
