View Full Version : On the diet over 6 months - make some tweaks?

So I know this question is better suited for a private forum question, however, my coaching ran out and this is our last month TTC until 2015 so I'd rather wait to renew until I start fresh next year for another few months.

I've been on the diet since April 1st. This will be my 7th month. HOWEVER, I was completely off LE for ~2-3 weeks from late August - early September with my loss pregnancy. I took prentals, drank tons of green smoothies, eggs, meat, etc. Even while on the diet I still eat cheese (within limits) and I eat shrimp (2 ounces or so?) once a week. So I'm hardly malnourished.

Am I correct in thinking I'm OK to go on for month 7 without adding any supplements or eggs or salmon since I took that break while pregnant and eat cheese regularly? I'm leaning towards being very strict with diet this month (since it's my last month and I can mentally tell myself it's only 2-3 weeks on diet), but I wanted to double check if skipping the eggs/zinc/salmon is ok.

Hopefully atomic will chime in, I can only say I added fish once per week and eggs 1-2 times per week but I didn't take the zinc. I was on the diet for 7 months. REALLY Hope its your month honey crossing everything for ya! Its hard being on the diet that long X

Thanks kitkat (so excited about your girly nub, btw!) ! :) Did you always have salmon or did you mix it up with whatever fish you were craving?

I was on the diet for 7 months as well when I got my BFP. I added in 15mg of zinc and 65mg of iron three times a week (M/W/F) my last two cycles since I was experiencing pica. I read that iron improves egg quality. I don't eat eggs and still only ate white fish, not salmon. Stuck with lowfat dairy as well.

I might add in some iron/zinc during AF this month. I'm worried because my AF was crazy light the month before my BFP with the loss and I feel like that might have contributed to it? I'm usually such a red meat eater I don't even think about these things!

I would stay strict personally, especially as it's your last month before taking a break. I think the MC will balance out the eating well again. Plus, the LE diet done properly shouldn't be malnourishing. Some have done it for over a year straight before conceiving their girls, and loosening the diet can send the wrong signal to your body.

I really hope you conceive your THB girl this cycle!

Thanks maiden, me too! Definitely going to try to stick to the lower limits of LE for 3 weeks (probably will loosen up in the 2nd half of the 2WW since I'm not attempting next cycle!). So much easier when there's an end in sight! I also plan on upping my cardio to 70 minutes/7 days a week. I know more isn't necessarily better, but I love the cardio and I figure it can't hurt.

Thanks honey!! I would eat white fish not salmon but not necessarily every week just if DH cooked it. I also kept dairy low fat. I think if you are craving some eggs or fish I would say go for it but if you are not you are probably fine . Hoping its your month!! Xxx

What is wrong in eating cheese?
Skimmed cheese or Philadelphia light cream?
I personally eat daily...
Is that wrong?

Yes the rules are different for you, and as long s you feel healthy and strong I am ok with you skipping the fish/eggs recommendation. :) I'd still prob. keep doing the 8-15 mg zinc though, just to hedge our bets here.

NOthing is wrong with eating cheese. She means that she is already eating some full fat dairy and getting some nutrients from that.

My, remember you already asked me about cheese and I said it was ok!! :)

just during AF isn't going to do a whole lot, honestly. I'd do it all month or not at all. If concerned about sway you can do 2x per week instead of 1.

LIght AF doesn't mean anything for FUTURE cycles. It just says what happened in the previous cycle. I had super light AF the month before I conceived my daughte.

I know Atomic, I did asked you. I only have a few things I eat and if I would cut cheese or sweets, I would not make even 1200 kcal :))) I love cheese.

Thanks atomic - I will probably skip the zinc this month and if we change our minds and decide to go for month 8 I will add it back in.

Mybyc - yeah cheese is totally fine. Mine is always within limits but isn't always low fat (sometimes I eat take out pizza, etc) and I know regular fat cheese is chock full of nutrients. I'm trying to cut back this month but it's hard. :)

Hi. I've been on LE since the end of April (but veggie since April) and I'm not making any tweaks just yet. I'm sticking to LE for now until I get any evidence of a cycle! I feel like I've not really had a BFN yet per se, as I've not had AF yet since stopping BFin July. So I may have not actually ovulated yet anyway. Hopefully soon as I am bored of monitoring my consumption and missing meat!

What exactly does the zinc add to the sway? I'm taking it and just wondered what it's for?

YOur body is not good at storing zinc and over the course of time, on LE Diet you are probably not going to be getting enough.

For you Tara, I added it because you've been on a restrictive diet for quite a while and you very likely needed it.

Thanks atomic! Patiently awaiting O day, hopefully next Tuesday!!! Feeling all sorts of twinges and cramps down there, hopefully that's a good sign and not just my fiber pills working:) lol!
