View Full Version : 16 weeks and baby still has a nub? Is this really a girl?

I apologize for the extra large pictures.

I went at 14 weeks to get an early determination and my tech said he was 85% sure the baby was a girl. I posted here (and over at in-gender) and got all baby girl guesses.

Fast forward 2 weeks, to this morning, and I was expecting to get a clear 3 line potty shot, only I had no idea Baby would still have a bit of a nub. He (the tech) told me the nub, for a girl, is still visible until at least 18 weeks, but that he was absolutely confident my little one is very much "still" a girl.

He said that an accurate potty shot (at this gestation- 16wks) depended on which way Baby's legs were pointing. That if they are pointing up, you would get an accurate visual, but that if they are pointing down, you will be able to see the clitoris protruding between the legs. He also said that this is how a lot of wrong gender guesses are made. My baby's legs were pointing straight down, so he gave me a perfect example of a potty shot that resembled boy parts, when in fact, she's a girl.

Anyways, I was pretty blown away because I just assumed I would get that standard potty shot showing 3 lines. Instead I get more nubs but a *very* confident sonographer that says it is absolutely a girl. He said that, in his 20 years, he's never been wrong at this gestation and forward.

I appreciate his confidence (and his odds), but I guess I just wanted some outside opinions as well.

Thanks in advance. :)

I intentionally showed that shot because the tech was using it as an example. When the baby's legs are pointed down, you can see the clitoris protruding, but when the baby's legs are out/up, you get a shot with no clitoris showing (I didn't get a picture of that shot, but he showed it to me when he was able to get Baby to move her legs).

I went back and watched the video the sonographer sent me and here is one potty shot from when her legs were raised.

Just wanted to update that baby is, in fact, a girl, according to my Verifi blood test that I had done at 12 weeks. My OB confirmed at my appointment this morning. :)
