View Full Version : Question about a potty shot / any skull guesses 20wk?

I had my 20wk u/s scan couple of days ago. We're team green, however I'm very curious about the gender. We told the tech we didn't want to find out the gender and she said it's not usually part of the scan anyway (but they usually check it out for you if you ask). But when she took the baby's leg measure, she did it from the potty angle and didn't warn us. My husband looked elsewhere because he really didn't want to know but I looked at the screen. Baby's legs were wide open, but I'm 100% sure I didn't see a penis. There was a very light bump between his/her legs, but for me it looked too low to be testicles, but could've been swollen girl bits. I didn't see any lines (I wasn't looking for them and only realized after the scan that if I'd seen 3 lines it would indicate to a girl). So I don't know if there were lines, but I didn't see a penis either. With our last baby we were shown the potty shot and we could see boy parts very clearly. I'm so confused... Why would she show a potty shot knowing we didn't want to know the gender. I didn't see boy parts but still feel like it's a boy (trying to prepare myself for a third son). Anyone else had a potty shot and not seen a penis, but baby turned out to be a boy anyway?

Here is a profile shot of the baby's skull.

Your baby has a very girly skull. Beauty.
We also said team green. In the end we did want to know.
But onemofmthe earlier pics showed a very not so shy girl while she measured her legs. So i would have known at home anyway.

She also said she couldn't always prevent showing the parts. She tries nd said keep your legs closed. And then she opend them.

Thanks sweetdream! I really hope it's a girl. Got my hopes up when I saw the potty shot and nothing floating between the baby's legs, but at the same time I know a gender can't be confirmed unless clear boy / girl parts are seen. It doesn't mean it's not a boy, because we didn't see a penis, maybe it was just high up and wasn't visible from the potty angle at that time. But I remember the clear turtle shape we saw last time with our boy and this time I didn't see it - more like a very low and even bump but nothing that could be a penis.

I never comment on skulls but it looks very similar to my girl. When I had leg measurements done everyone said gender wasn't showing but there was nothing there and turned into a girl for me;)

Thanks!! I really hope this one is a girl. I don't know how I can wait until the birth to find out... But my husband doesn't want to know. He said he's not sure I can handle another pregnancy with GD and thinks maybe it's easier to accept when the beautiful baby is in your arms. I'm just so curious and if I knew it was a girl, I know I'd be over the moon.

I think they are not trained very well in "bedside manner" and do 8 scans a day and probably put next to no thought into it.

I would NOT put any stock into what you saw or didn't see because ultrasounds are just really really tough to read for a layman on the basis of somehting you see for a minute.

My stepdad (who was a nurse BTW) walked out of my mom's ultrasound with my brother totally convinced HE was a she, but no. When my brother came out he was like "that kid has BALLS!!" (very proudly because they already had a girl)
