What would you make from our conversation...baby boy or girl..??

Me: so can u tell the gender of baby
Sonographer: Erm...well I can have a look... Well I (emphasis on I) think it's a girl But when it's born it might be a boy
Husband: how sure are you 50/50
Sonographer: I don't know the statistic,it was 50/50 when you walked through the door
Husband: so can we start buying pink stuff
Sonographer: Erm...well that's up to you but when it's born it might be a boy because the scrotum hasn't decended yet.

What would you make of this conversation..? I have read so many stories online about getting told one sex and ending up with another. Everyone who I know who has had an ultrasound got a percentage of accuracy when finding the sex and I got a 'I don't know the statistics'. Do you think the scrotum hadn't descended yet making her think girl because she did mention the scrotum which was odd if it was a definite girl

This was at my 20 week scan and my baby was facing down, I'm not sure if that makes it difficult to determine the sex

Agreed - another scan. If they weren't sure of the gender, they should say so and leave it at that rather than hinting 'but maybe not'. How annoying!

@txmomof3beautifulboys @nuthinbutpink @Bunnywabbit @janamomof3girls i only have this one picture where I have outlined the body in red and arm in pink. So you can clearly see something sticking up...any guesses from that picture?

THERE IS NO GENDER IN YOUR PICS. YOU CANNOT KNOW WHAT YOU ARE HAVING FROM THAT BIZARRE CONVERSATION. NOBODY CAN GUESS BASED ON THAT PICTURE. IT'S NO BETTER THAN A COIN TOSS. GO GET ANOTHER SCAN IF YOU REALLY WANT TO KNOW! YES I AM SHOUTING!

Am I crazy or have I read this post before, like a few weeks ago? I am having serious deja vu. Anyway, I agree with everyone else, you can't tell from the conversation, or from the pic. If you want to know you need another scan.

I find it very annoying when I hear ultrasonographers that say such things. They shouldn't have told you anything and other than "I don't know". An ultrasonographer that doesn't know how to read gender is worse than a friend guessing based on how you are carrying. If you really want to know the gender go and get a gender scan at a place that will guarantee it.

at 20 weeks you can tell gender and should be able to buy pink/blue. If they can't see it for whatever reason they need to just say so. Go get a new scan unless you are happy remaining on team green

I would suspect girl but the tech sounds like a nitwit and I would def. get a scan.

Sometimes it is the policy of the place not to do gender scans - the techs can get into trouble for it and so I think sometimes they try to skirt the rules a bit. My sonographer at my 13-6 ultrasound did def. drop some hints because she wasn't allowed to spill the beans. :)

I've never seen a ultrasound like that. I'd say I have pains or make something up to get another ultrasound lol!
