View Full Version : 10w4d potty shot, way too early?!

I went for my monthly check up and my OB, for some reason, took a potty shot and said it looked boyish! (He said it was protruding).
From what I have read over the months surely that's waaaaaay too early for a gender prediction?! Both girls and boys nubs are the same at that gestation right..??
He seemed so adamant, even told me to think of boys names... This is my last baby and really hoping for a girl. What's your opinions?
I have a pic if you wanna see. Thanks.

Yeah both are going to protrude like that at 10 weeks. Even with a profile shot at 10 weeks unless its really obviously sticking up at an angle still to early to guess!

Yes, I was very surprised when he decided to take a guess. I said, but at that age they all protrude right? And he said, yes but this one protrudes a lot!
Oh by the way, I was 10w4d but the scan pic says 11-1, does that mean the baby measures bigger? Even then it's waaaaay too early right?
And no I have no profile shots...!

Some if the most girly nubs you see protrude way more than boy nubs. Unless he meant it was really really sticking up. But yes, way too early!

No, he meant it as in it was long (he was looking from underneath), not sticking up sideways like a boy nub.

I have to see it now (curiosity) but it is too early IMO for guessing :)

That's bad of him - at that gestation everything is pretty much identical, they can't give a good guess, nor should they attempt to tell you otherwise.

Not saying this lightly, but get a new doctor. That is 110% too early to guess and is biologically impossible to tell at that stage. The Y chromosome has only just begun making testosterone and there is absolutely NO visible difference between the genitals of XX and XY.

It's an alien with a tail still at 10 weeks.

Lol you made me laugh, but yes true, I asked him if he/she had legs yet and he said not yet!

Haha. I'm in the "alien with a tail" group. Love that. But yeah, I'd put exactly NO stock in that particular guess. Testosterone has to be present to create testes and a penis and at 10+4, there just isn't enough of that to create anything. I'm not sure why the heck the doctor would guess at this stage.

I am not an ultrasound expert, but that is what I believe.

I know someone who had an ultrasound picture look almost exactly like the one you posted at 10 weeks and the tech said they thought it was a boy.... It also protruded way out. But at the 20 week scan, she was all girl. It's too early to say one way or the other. My doctor gave me a guess at 11 weeks, but told me that she was just leaning blue (60% chance). She knows I am hoping for a girl, so I think she was lowering my expectations without crushing them entirely.
