View Full Version : 20 week scans - side profile shots

Hi everyone

So I had a great response to my earlier post with guessing on my 12+2 scan (all saying boy, yay - fx!). Thank you :)

I had my 20 week scan yesterday. The sonographer asked if I wanted to know gender after 5mins or so and I said no, I'm not ready yet to hear the answer! This hasn't stopped me being obsessed ever since!!

I have only one photo and it's a side profile shot. My question is can you tell gender from this angle typically? I can see what looks like white lines (so girl) but I am not sure if white lines are accurate from a side shot, they are only relevant if it's a potty shot...I hope that's the case anyway otherwise it's another girl for me and my boy nub was actually girly! The skull is totally different to my dd's 20 week pic.

Can't post a pic at the moment but was keen to know what people think about 20 week side shot accuracy - I specifically told the tech I didn't want to know gender and she spent ages getting a shot of baby, so maybe she was trying to hide something but I certainly didn't see it if she was (clutching a straws!).

Thanks in advance x

You need a potty shot at this stage. She probably wouldn't have given you a picture if it had any obvious gender clues?

Thanks Sarah, I thought (hoped!) that was the case. Baby was quite curled up and so not sure it would be possible to see anything unless he or she had moved position, or if the tech had deliberately looked at potty shot. Thanks :) x

At that stage it's hard NOT to see a penis! They really like to show it off at that point;) so maybe the tech was trying to hide it? Good luck:)

Thanks 2boysjustonegirl. The tech did a brief scan for a couple of minutes then asked if we'd like to know gender, we said no and she turned the computer back to her to do a detailed scan. We then had a minute or so at the end where she pointed a few things out. But I didn't see anything that looked like boy bits :( I am pretty useless though and wouldn't know a leg from an arm so maybe it's not all bad news! Thanks :) x

Can you post your 20 week pic for us to maybe have a skull guess off of :)

Thanks Sarah and babyb5. I am really hoping for a little boy so fingers crossed :) My little girl keeps telling me she has a brother in mummy's tummy so I hope she's right!

I swayed for many months thanks to the help of the guys on this board but it was taking me a long time to get pregnant as I found out I had PCOS. So I stopped some of the elements of my sway, but I'm hoping the healthier lifestyle I continued with may have helped. Thank you both x

Looks like a boy and you can see gender from a profile at 20 weeks very easily but your image doesn't even show that area.

The nub looks like a boy!! I don't see any clues from your recent scan.

Thanks ejk741 :) I hope the nub theory is right for me, I'm pleased there are no clues in second scan as it still gives me hope it may be boy lol!
