My DH is mountain biking for a week in AZ this month. How long of a recovery does he need before we TTC for a boy? Would 3 weeks be long enough? Also, would the same advice apply for kiteboarding? He is kiteboarding for a week in March. (He wears a wetsuit or tight fitting shorts in ocean water...)

As far as my own exercise goes, I'm a pilates instructor - would you consider this cardio or weights and how often would you recommend I exercise? I have already gained 5 pounds from being on the HE diet 6+ weeks so not really wanting to gain more. :)

One last question not really related to sports... As soon as I get a positive OPK result, do you recommend TTC right away or should we wait 1/2 day or a full day? I know you recommended morning BD but that is oftentimes impossible with work schedules and early-rising daughter!

Update - we may be able to try before he bikes... however, I'm also a bit concerned because my DH was moving things in my studio and pulled a muscle so he is taking dicclofenac sodium 2x day - a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug for the pain (I think just large does of ibuprofen). Should that push our timeline back of TTC blue? It seems like when one thing comes up - everything does! Sorry for the many questions!

Thank you so much! I've enjoyed searching and reading through your advice so much in the past few months!

Under ideal circumstances, as long as is feasible because sperm take 72 days to form and any type of harmful activity may affect the sperm that are forming, not just hte ones that are coming out right away. but, in real world, do what you can do and try when it is right for you and your family, because it's ALWAYS something.

It depends on if it's building muscle or not. I recommend 4-5 days a week, 45 min a day to put the hold on weight gain.

TTC RIGHT AWAY with pos OPK (by that I mean that night, no need to come rushing home from work.) If you can be in with another attempt or two within 36 hours, great, if not, you can't.

LIke I said, it's always something - if the spirit is moving you to try, I would try! There are no dealbreakers and if you're alreayd on HE Diet for awhile and feel good about it, I wouldn't let a little ibuprofen stop me. But it's your sway, and you need to do what you feel comfortable with, because you'll need to live with the results.

Thanks, Atomic! Does anyone else on the forum have a biking husband? Did your DH stop biking when TTC? Has anyone conceived a boy with a biking DH?

You can ALWAYS get a boy or a girl regardless. That having been said, unlike many things people do for swaying which are speculative or based on Old Wives' Tales, biking for DH has actually been shown in a study to alter the gender ratio towards girls (I have that posted somewhere on here but it's not coming up in a Google search, does anyone know where it is offhand?) so I take that a little more seriously than I do some of the things that have not been as well proven. )

bumping for more biking hubbies!

I have a biking hubby! So far we have two girls. Lol. Although both from his pre-biking days! That said, I have just suffered a miscarriage and was really really sure it was a boy (just felt so different from my girls). I also have a friend whose hubby is a very keen biker and they have two boys! So there is hope! My DH tries to reduce biking for a couple of weeks before attempt each month (he would normally be cycling in and out of work each day, about 10 miles each way) and when he does have to cycle he tries to stay standing up... I wish he would stop totally but we only have one car so when I need it he has to get to work somehow!

My hubby does triathlons. So was on the bike very regular. But he finished his last one a month before DS was conceived and was easing back for the winter but would still cycle twice a week and run another 2 days.

My husband bikes for an hour every other day and runs for an hour on the in-between days. We have two girls from before his exercising days, when he was overweight, and we got a boy while he was biking almost daily. This pregnancy is another girl.

srg09cag11 - Did you sway for a girl this time around? Likewise, were you trying for a boy when you had your boy?

Thank you ladies for all of your replies. My husband thinks we should possibly wait a few months until he is out of his "biking season"...I'm not sure at this point with the 72 days it takes to make new sperm is worth the wait though bc even after he stops it won't be "fresh" for quite some time :).... We had a miscarriage at 5 weeks a few weeks ago so am waiting this cycle out but being 35 I'm feeling very ready to try again soon....

Well, it's not "strictly at 72 days a bell rings and all the bad sperm put on their coats and exit the building and then next shift comes on".

Over the 72 days more and more of his sperm gradually will be replaced so any thing he does in the meantime can only help.

Sorry, I didn't see your question BlueBear, but I also replied to your PM. I didn't know about gender swaying when we had our boy, but I was also very fit, more muscle, and eating healthy, etc. I was trying to sway for a boy this time and got an opposite, but there are a variety of reasons for that probably.

He would bike about 40 miles a week. He's a mountain biker. He currently doesn't bike as much as he used to but yes, he was biking when we conceived both boys. :)

I will tell you what all I did to get pregnant with my boys. I used clear blue digitals and had anywhere from 4-6 attempts around ovulation. I drank red raspberry leaf tea, took prenatals (obviously) and we used preseed during all attempts. I lay on my back at a minimum of 30 mins but I love to fall asleep with everything in there!lol (I did that with DS2). My husband always switches to boxers around TTC time. He hates them but makes the sacrifice.

You may not have wanted all the details, but if yore anything like me I need all the details!haha

Were you trying for boys? Sounds like boy attempts...! Interesting because everything that sways girl we both definitely were doing at the time (without knowing it). I could go into details if you wish but probably the main thing from genderdreaming that would agree with what we were doing was that I was dieting (really limiting snacking but still eating meals) because we were going on vacation (Caribbean honeymoon the winter following our summer wedding). Might as well add that I had just gotten off birth control 2 weeks prior, we dtd every day from the time my period ended, we were going in the condo's hottub, no preseed (never had heard of that), I had been a fan of soy lattes for many months leading up to trying (had cut back a month or so before attempt)...and more!

No! Was not swaying for boys!! I've always wanted a house full of them but was just doing things to increase fertility. Never even heard of this site. When I was reading the things people were doing for boys I couldn't believe it!lol

Thank you for the details!! Well, honestly I have dropped all things I was doing to sway girl. I am so impatient. I naturally keep my calorie intake 1800 or under and rarely snack so maybe that'll help us there. This will be our third month TTC (our first was conceived month 2/3 and the second was conceived first month) so when I didn't get pregnant this past month I started freaking out. I wouldn't stress so badly if DH didn't have a varicocele but I have a fear it has like diminished all sperm or something! He had a sperm analysis before conceiving our first DS and it was well above normal but I still have that worry in the back of my mind. Girl, don't you see even more why I have boys!LOL I'm a type A, worry wort.

Anyway, I have started taking my prenatals and drinking my tea again. Probably using preseed this month too so if we do conceive I'm banking on DS3 but I am totally ok with that. I just want a healthy baby. :) my three year old always ask for a "baby sisser" but he will love a baby brother I'm sure.

Did yall decide to try or are yall going to wait it out?

We are definitely going to try this month. I should ovulate this week - yay!! We've been trying since January but I was stuck on using Shettles method so wasn't getting pregnant. I think I was missing the egg or something because once I went to the method recommended here for boys (every other day BD and then 3x at ovulation) then we got pregnant second month (but then lost it at 5 weeks). Plus with my daughter we did get pregnant first try (and I was 32, my DH 37) so I can understand the fret when you don't get pregnant right away. You are too funny - you are adding in things recommended for boys - but you got to do with what feels right. If you had your heart set on a girl maybe try this month without preseed?? Seems to really sway and I saw a similar comment by someone on here and atomic said that preseed was a definite boy factor. Anyway, thanks for your comments - hoping you get pregnant soon! I use fertilityfriend website and they say that 85% or so couples get pregnant in one year of trying - so really no worries! That's another thing.... I'm pretty laid back but I do have an online job that can be stressful at times. I was hoping it would get stressful this week and so far pretty quiet - lol! I guess I'll have to go find someone to play a game of cards with! :) :)

I am 28 and DH is 37 so I think with my age we should be fine and that 85% sounds fabulous!haha you're right, I probably should ATLEAST give it one more month without the preseed. I dropped the vitex last month so that should be out of my system by now as well. Good luck to you!! You should come over to the sept tww thread! We have some fun over there! If not, I want an update. ;)

Will do - I often am laughing out loud when I'm reading through some of the comments (and have felt like crying when reading some, too). There are so many times when we can relate to each others' struggles and joys! I told my DH it's just fun to be chatting with women who are all trying to get pregnant!

Can I convince you to add just one thing at a time???

My VERY GREAT preference would have been to stay off the prenatals and tea and add Preseed.

Boysboys
September 7th, 2015, 07:37 PM
I can do that. So you would rather add preseed or give it one more shot without preseed too?? Sometimes I wish I could change my personality and not worry when something doesn't happen on my plan! :(

One more thing, my DH has started wearing boxers/commando since this past month was bfn. He claims he has to wear bikini style underwear while working out for some support. Is that ok or do I need to get him to stop?

September 9th, 2015, 02:19 PM
I would much prefer you stay off the prenatals which sway strongly blue and do nothing to help you get pregnant, and add the preseed.

Yes that's fine with DH's undies. working out unsupported is not great either. As long as he's doing as much as he can the rest of the time, let's let it go for now and if another month or two go by then we can always revisit this.
