View Full Version : Does the length of AF affect estimated ovulation date?

Hey everyone :)
We are planning to start TTC at the end of next week, and AF stuck around longer than expected - I have been using an app to keep track of my periods and temp the past few months. This last week AF was longer than usual , but I noticed the ovulation day on the app hasn't moved (I know that the app could be way off, but I was just curious) - does AF not affect ovulation?
We are swaying for a boy, and I am new to all this tracking side of TTC. We have a 3yo that happened without planning :)
Thanks

no it doesn't. your lining can regrow even when you're having af.
what supps are you taking?? some can extend af bleeding time and want to be sure you're not taking too much.

Absolutely zero correlation! My AF is on average 3 days (generally 2-4 days, very rarely just 1 day or 5 days), and my O moves around a great deal. It's been as early as CD5 and as late as CD28! On average it is around CD17-19, and my cycles are usually about 28-29 days. My AFs are the most regular aspect in that they are almost always light & short, regardless of when I O or how long a particular cycle is. It is quite random and impossible to predict in advance!
On FF, I've seen ladies with 10 day long AFs who O around CD12, ladies with short AFs like mine who O around CD30, and every combination in between. And there are plenty who have lots of variation in when they O despite regular cycles, like me.

Thank you ladies :) I did try to search it myself, but just kept coming up with the same information.
I was wondering if the Vitamin B Complex that I 'was' taking (stopped three days ago now) may have made it longer - my AF was 7 days (Usually only 5). I have now switched to a multi vit derived from whole food (so it's not as highly concentrated, in the last year we have been on a big health kick, so trying to avoid processed stuff), as well as EPO capsules.
But good to know it doesn't affect my O day

The B vitamins could be why; I've seen them cause spotting so they can affect bleeding. Or it could just be a fluke month. It is normal to have a weird AF on occasion!
Good luck with your sway :)

IT's the EPO in my opinion. I would have you drop it unless you are also taking fish oil at the same time, because EPO on its own can sway pink. You ahve to take greater than or equal to the amount of EPO and be careful you are not taking more than 1500 mg of BOTH

I would personally drop the EPO. It can really mess up your cycles.

Ahh interesting! I have only just started the EPO after AF so know it's not that :) bit may drop it now. Or get some fish oil
Thanks

I have a perfect 28 day cycle, and ovulate on cd 17 without any supplements.
