View Full Version : Sinus Infection

I apparently have a sinus infection as well. I went to the dentist because I had throbbing pain and wasn't sure if it was a tooth issue or sinus issue. It was not tooth related and my dentist prescribed Cipro 500mg antibiotic. I am debating taking it. I said if I wasn't feeling better today I would take it but it seems like such a strong one. Anyone know anything about it? I don't think it is too safe to take while pregnant, although I am sure I have no chance of pregnancy this month, I am still nursing.

Also, can a sinus infection affect hormones or ovulation? I am just trying to figure out this cycle too. On Thirsday I started getting really sick, that is when I went to the RE and my temp shot up that morning like I ovulated but had no other signs. Since then my temp has gone down so it doesn't look like I ovulated. I will link my chart, Open circle today because I tempted a half hour early.

I have been on Cipro several times and never had it affect temps or O. I don't think it's a big deal in terms of swaying, either. Definitely take it if you need it, sinus infections can be damaging if left untreated. I hope you feel better soon, hugs.

any illness can delay ovulation
I would be wary without a firm diagnosis from a doctor (I'm not dissing the dentist, just that sinus infections is often a 'go-to' diagnosis and there cna be other things that cause head/face pain) I was told once I had a sinus infection with no other symptom aside from intense pain (by a doctor who did not use any diagnostic method to come up with the diagnosis) and it turned out I had an inflammation in my optic nerve that could have made me go blind.

*facepalm* Yes, illness itself can absolutely delay O and is notorious for doing so. And of course a fever due to infection can throw off your temps.
It is true that antibiotics are often prescribed unnecessarily...what exactly are your symptoms? If you have a lot of snot, what colour is it?

I like my dentist and I actually had to see him again for something else so I decided to go in and check it wasn't a tooth issue, but I am not so quick to suggest a sinus infection considering he only banged on my tooth to see if it hurt! LOL Although due to the LE diet I am sure my immune system is not up to par ya know. I have mainly stuffy nose big time, headache and mostly clear when I blow but sometimes yellowish, not green.

Yes, that is why I am a bit wary. That is so scary for you!!

Yeah I didn't mean to dismiss your dentist (honestly, in my case I got way better quality of care and a legit diagnosis from the ophthamologist than from the 2 "actual" doctors I saw). Just didn't realize you were actually having symptoms - in my case I had nothing but a piercing pain in my eyeball and they were like, oh ya that's totally a sinus infection. :/

Yes I am definitely sick, have been since Wednesday but am not totally convinced it is an actual infection that need antibiotics.
I wonder if my body geared up to O but didn't. It is just so strange that she did not see any growing follicles. She only said well, I don't see anything going on in your ovaries so she assumed that I ovulated and my temp did go up that morning (had bad sleep the night before) but has been low since.

Have you been getting sicker or holding steady lately? Yellow snot can sometimes hint at a bacterial infection. How bad are the headaches?
You could try my natural viral cure that usually will kick viruses in the butt within 12-24 hours; buy pure elderberry liquid extract and take 30 drops every 3 hours. Also, drink 20-30oz of freshly squeezed orange + carrot juice (50:50 mix), preferably organic. If you're not feeling better by Monday morning, then take the Cipro. That is what I would personally do.
Have you felt at all feverish? I will go chart stalk you on FF.

I am a teeny bit better today and the headache has let up so I would say holding steady! I give my boys elderberry. I have been doing ACV and garlic too. I actually love carrot/orange juice so I will buy some tomorrow. If I do feel worse then I will have to take it. My chart is so strange but I will keep temping and see what happens. Thanks maiden!! :)

Glad to hear that! :)
Yeah, I can see why you think you haven't Oed. I think a fluke temp due to fever makes more sense. Why the open circles?

you know, I had a bit of a brainstorm here - if you do have some sort of infection in your uterus (source of the fluid) then it may help get rid of it to take the Cipro...

not that I typically recommend taking meds outside of their prescribed area, but then again it's a weird situation since the fluid seems to have developed after the HSG - all just makes me a bit wary that something is going on in there. :)

You know Atomic, DH was saying the same thing to me and I was thinking it as well. It is strange that my cervix is low, medium and feels open to me, sort of like how it does before AF. I think I may just take it. I will probably take probiotics in between as well, but doesn't that sway blue?

The high temp I was awake a lot cause I couldn't sleep and the other one I took my temp a half hour earlier.

Probiotics don't sway if you're on antibiotics (no data, just instinct here) You NEED probiotics when you're on antibiotics because the antibiotics kill off the good microbes in your gut.

Then that one high temp is definitely off, not being able to sleep will have a major effect!
I agree taking the Cipro could clear up another infection if it's to blame for the fluid. Also being sick probably is what delayed O this month. I would definitely attempt regardless of your chances. I attempted 2 weeks after minor surgery for which I took Cipro for 7 days after to prevent infection. I didn't conceive but I don't blame the surgery or Cipro.

:agree: I actually had a delayed O due to illness this month. While I'm sure it had happened to me before I never noticed it firsthand like this (probably becasue I really, really do not want to be preggo and AF didnt' show up - my cycles are usually like clockwork so I was getting tense LOL)
When my O was due I had horrible O pains for days and noticed EWCM going on after when I thought I"d Oed, so that plus late AF indicates delayed ov.

I got a good positive opk cd 15 which is really late for me and I had super O pains all day yesterday. Haven't had that for a while so I was happy and took it as a good sign. The only thing that concerns me is that I was feeling the pains mostly on my right sire which is where my tube is supposedly blocked. :(

I am so stumped! I had a positive opk on CD 15 and really bad O pains on CD 16 and CD 17 my cm was back to creamy but my temps are really low? I don't understand. I can't imagine that I didn't O yet. Really frustrating! Do I keep doing opk? They are not positive either. My sleep has been erratic and I am still recovering from a cold but doing better. Taking ABX too. I took my temp earlier today but still?
Also, all my temps that are Pre O that are h igh are when I was sick. SHould I discard them or what?Maybe today was a fallback rise?

The side of O pains do not mean anything. Eggs develop in both ovaries every month and you can have pain on both sides. Some have reported that they actually had worse pain in the side they DIDN'T ovulate from, perhaps because ovulation relieved some of the pressure (kinda like popping a zit LOL)

It's only one low temp (and an open circle at that.) I think it's a fluke. FXFXFX

I don't really know what to make out it. I guess I will see what happens tomorrow but every sign points to me ovulating except this low temp...of course. Man I am tired of this frustration. I seriously just want to be pregnant already. SIGH
FX for you this cycle Maiden!!!Nice and steady temps!

I know how you feel DJmommy! It is so hard to try and be positive when it seems everyone under the sun is getting, or already is, pregnant. I try and remember that there is more going on than what we can see and understand. Our time will come. The difference is, because we have struggled so much, we will be all the more compassionate to those that are struggling too.
Keep your chin up honey and know you will get pregnant soon. I just know it!

Thank you XX! I know it will happen but it seems like it is always one thing after another, ya know. And a few friends of mine have had OOPS, were pregnant! It is hard. I know you know too. FX for you!!!!!!! I am over temping and charting too but honestly, if we don't schedule sex...it won't happen often! LOL Hubby gets up super early for work and is usually tired at night and will fall asleep at 8 or 9 if I let him!! I have to remind him!!

My temp did go back up today, but still seems low for me. My house has been colder and my sleep stinks so I am not going to stress over it! :) I honestly think I ovulated a couple days ago. I am hoping so!!

I say you either Oed on the 10th or the 12th. You might have geared up to O on the 10th, but actually did in the 12th. I would keep both as a possibility. I am curious to see what your temp does tomorrow. FX it stays nice and high!
