Down syndrome test

Hi all :)

I haven't ever posted here before so not sure if this is the right place (but am an avid reader of all the useful information that everyone posts!!!) and I know this is most likely a silly question but I'm not sure where else I could ask (esp without judgment of the wanting a boy/girl issue)?!

So I already have a lovely little boy and would just love a girl!! Am 13 weeks at the moment and had my NT scan last week - the results came out as 1 in 13,000 chance for down syndrome (sigh of relief at the good result) - however, when I had my results for my little guy - they were 1 in 8,000 (pretty much the same Nuchal fold distance with the two pregnancies)- I asked a midwife and she said that the large difference between the two results MAY be a different gender? Has anyone experienced this to be the case ??

Sorry I know this is silly and trivial but I am just DYING to know the gender! The sonographer predicted girl by the nub- but it WAS at 12 weeks and I've heard that predictions can be wrong so early so do not want to get my hopes up based on that.

Hi! It's not a silly question, everything is useful :-)
I think it's not conected at all. However if the tech says girl, I wud bet for that gender because although inaccurate results are possible, my experience os that almost always that tje thech predict the gender at 12weeks, they are almost always right.
Bit I think no connection with Syndrome Down, nor heart beats... Etc. Good luck and congrats on such a good results for your blood test and healthy child.

Hi, when you say 'pretty much' the same, there are only millimetres of difference between downs and non-downs so even 1mm changes the 'risk factor' a whole lot.
I hope you get your girl though xxxxx

The reason she said that is because of HCG levels being ON AVERAGE different between boys and girls. But it is not cut and dry like that and I would not put any stock into what she said. After all, on average most men are taller than most women, but if you put Danny DeVito in a room with WNBA players, it would not appear to be the case at all.

Did they get a nub at the NT scan?? 13 weeks is better than 12 for gender determination.

I did get a nub at the NT scan and this is what the sonographer based her prediction on - but we shall see (my gut i actually yelling BOY at me though). I swear time is just standing still between now and my next obst. appointment.
