View Full Version : Is week 11 really too early for nub?

I'm having a scan at in order to date my unplanned pregnancy. I think I will be around 11w3d. He will also look at the nuchal fold and just see if the baby is healthy (and hopefully only one baby!). I know my obgyn doesn't look for gender until earliest week 15-16, so I might not even get to have a proper look at the nub, or get a picture of the nub-area from him. My question is, is looking for a nub this early really out of the question? Thanks!

Well, if you are only 11 weeks, it's just not that accurate. It's there but could rise still.

I would try to not even look at the nub. I would be worried about false hope/false despair. It just is not accurate at that stage at all.

I was 11w5d but measuring 12w1d when I had my nt scan and I drove myself mad analyzing that nub. I wouldn't even worry about it if I were you.

Yes, it is really, really, really too early. The Y chromosome does not even start to kick in until the 10th week of pregnancy, at which point it starts making testosterone that then in turn makes physical changes begin to occur. these changes are not visible to the naked eye until the 12th week at the earliest and 13th is much much more obvious and reliable.

Thanks ladies. It's easier said than done not to look at the nub or worry about the nub
 :worry: :nails:

I know, but at this stage it just can't tell you anything.

I had the scan done, I am 11w1d and there was no chance of seeing any type of nub. The obgyn only wanted to measure the fetus. Have to go back next week for a nuchal fold scan etc. He said the baby looked fine so far. I'm just super nervous about gender...! I hate this stupid stupid GD....
