Hi ladies. Needing support here. Last year I did LE strictly for six months. I gave up when my cycles still hadn't started postpartum. After a month of eating normally (I'm pretty greedy normally) my cycles returned. I gave myself December off too just for my sanity then started LE again in January. So theoretically I've been on it for nine weeks but unfortunately my mum has been ill in hospital and subsequently passed away during this time. Because of this I've had days where I've travelled on a train to London over a meal time, so grabbed something on the go. Mostly veggie but hard to track the calories. Plus a couple of McDonald's meals etc. I've also had quite a few egg mayo sandwiches or scrambled eggs on toast for breakfasts due to feeling nervous and faint with the stress and fear etc. Plus comforting Gin and Tonics and nuts at the boys' tea time to get me through to dinner.

So having done about nine weeks of let's call it a loose LE diet, I'm determined to get back on the wagon fully. I can't keep using Mum as an excuse or we'll never get to TTC. The question is how long should I be on the strict LE before attempting? Should I give it the recommended 10-12 weeks (if that is still the recommended time) or would you suggest just another 4-6 weeks but strict?

Thank you in advance x

I don't have much advice for you but just wanted to say I am sorry you lost your mom. I hear that sometimes the loose sways are the best. Hugs and good luck!

I'd compromise and do 8 weeks strictly before TTC.

I am SO sorry about your mum. Mine just passed in January. It's rough! :(

So sorry for your losses girls.,can't imagine the pain.
I was doing a loose LE diet for 6 weeks before our 1st attempt, got a BFN. Feel much better about this month as now I have 6 strict weeks and 6 not so strict weeks. Will you be kicking yourself if you get a boy this month? Or is your heart telling you not to rush?

Weezie honey so sorry about your mum, I think you did the right thing relaxing your LE to get you through this tough time. Personally I would do 4-6 weeks strict as you might not get pregnant the first cycle plus you have been doing LE on and off for 9 mths Your body has to remember that X

Do you think so KitKat? I'm worried that I'll just get another boy and regret it. Maybe I should just be patient and try in May. But I'm trying really hard this time to not lose too much weight. The longer I do the diet, the thinner I'll get.

Weezie - I'm so incredibly sorry for your loss and for what you are going through. You definitely did the right thing not adding the stress of a hard diet on top of all the other stress you are going through right now.

Since you know where your "bottom" weight is (for ovulation) since you've reached it 2x before - how close are you to the bottom? If you're already at the bottom (or within 3-5 lbs of it) I would just do 4-6 weeks of very strict LE and go for it. If you're still 10 lbs from the bottom I'd go for 8-12 weeks. I know you can try to maintain once you get to the bottom but as you know (you're so experienced at this!), being in a holding pattern is one of the hardest parts of LE! I found the diet so much easier when I was trying to actively lose weight vs trying to stay in a holding pattern. I couldn't imagine being on the diet for months while trying to maintain ovulation, so hard!

Weezie, thank you. I feel just the same. It just doesn't seem real. We were estranged bc she was psychotic but that almost makes it seem worse. The more time goes on (2mo now), I keep thinking of things I want to know but now can never ask her. I totally understand relaxing the diet especially since you were close.

Since you have 3 boys and a failed sway I would be strict. Up yoursugar intake to increase cals. I guarantee if you drink enough soda/wine (with meals obviously) you will not lose weight! In fact I'd try very hard NOT to lose any weight at all, just eat poor quality/low nutrient food and especially keep fat low and stay veggie. I really want to see you get your girl!

Oh gosh I'm so sorry Weezie. :(

I would honestly commence TTC straight away. I think it is good enough for government work and you may not even get pg the first month out, which will give it even longer. I really do not recommend waiting an additional 12 weeks, that is just plain overdoing it and not neccesary.

YOur body "remembers" that times weren't that great and so even the prev. 6 months of diet may still be swaying for you some extent.

Thinking of the "bottom" weight doesn't work though. IT's different every time and if your body "remembers" that it had stopped ovulation before, it may be "nervous" and actually stop ovulation sooner.

Overall I was on the diet 8mths but I did two months of loose LE ( my DH had a burst appendix so we had a 2month break) I then went hard the following cycle especially in 2ww and got my girl! Of course you have to do what feels right for you but there really is no perfect sway. Best of luck my friend with your decision I am so sending my wee bit of pink dust to you XX

Thanks Atomic. I really appreciate your input. We have Mum's memorial service today so I'll eat whatever is easiest, but tomorrow I'll get back to being strict. Hopefully at the end of this month I'll feel confident enough to DTD. I need to find my personalised plan you wrote me last year! I know Mum was as keen as I was for a baby gir, so I'm even more determined.

Thank you everyone for your support. Today is going to be tough but I'm looking forward to it as I imagine loads of people are going to come to say goodbye to Mum. This Sunday is UK Mothers Day so to distract me from her absence we're going to take the boys to the nearby airport, watch the planes, ride the monorail and have some lunch. Should be fun :-)
