View Full Version : Is this okay for my diet?

I tend to eat the same things so my diet would be pretty consistent.
5:00 am- a few almonds
7:00- almond milk, organic protein powder, kale, and berries shake
9:00- hard boiled egg
10:00- apple and a few almonds
11:50- chicken, avocado, Dijon mustard, and carrots. La croix drink
1:30- hard boiled egg
3:00- "granola" mixed nuts, dried fruit, flax, sunflower seeds, and honey
5:00- salad with homemade Dijon balsamic, onion, feta, and some sort of meat. Usually Italian sausage or taco seasoning with ground beef.
7:00- homemade Lara bar (dates, almonds, dried fruit)
(Occasional plain yogurt if I can stomach it. I'm not a dairy lover but trying to eat better dairy)
Is this enough food? Is 6 weeks the recommendation before first attempt? I've been eating more paleo style and want to keep that up. I also want the diet to be something I can sustain and not put on weight. It took 9 months to conceive my second and I dropped the diet after putting on weight. I'm trying to eat smarter this time.
I'm currently running 3 miles, 4-5 days a week. I'm going to switch it up to 2 miles in the morning and weights, kickboxing, or Insanity in the evening. My youngest is 9 months and I'm still 10 pounds above my pre-pregnancy weight. I want to lose that and then do the above diet for 6 weeks before we try. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!

Welp. I have 4 boys and that's they way I ate.
I haven't been studying blue swaying but do you need to lose they weight? I get the 6 weeks thing of eating that way though... I'm doing the reverse over here on the girl side.

No, you're not supposed to lose weight, it seems like a lot of women actually gain weight. I just want to lose some of this extra baby weight I have (even though it's been close to a year) before I start the HE diet. Then I want to try to maintain my weight by not eating a lot of complex carbs and doing some cardio/weights. I am usually a LE girl (which is probably why I have two girls!) so it's a bit of an adjustment but I'm hoping that since it's mostly unprocessed and healthy food, I'll feel healthy.
Thanks for the response!! As I get closer to the time, I'm starting to get more nervous. My husband would be pretty heartbroken to not have a son. He's always dreamed of having one.

those are absolutely the right types of foods, but I like to see protein and carbs at every meal ans snack when possible. So the eggs will need something with them, even just a small glass of juice. Same with chicken and avocado, and salad and meat - those are pretty low carb meals there and I'd like to see a smidge of carbs with them.
6 weeks for blue sways. I would rather you kept that weight and just upped exercise, esp. weight training to add lbs of muscle.

You can do it without gaining a pound but I do not think it's a good idea to deliberately lose 10 lbs and then hold steady after that only 6 weeks before TTC. If you had 6 months I would be on board with that but I fear you'll end up with a girl if you lose weight that close beforehand.

Thanks for the information but the vain part of me wants to lose this last bit of fat haha. I'm a little concerned because with the diet I listed, I feel like I will lose weight because there are no carbs or sugar. Is it okay to lose a couple pounds initially? My overall hope would be that my weight stays similar but muscle replaces this fat.
Are there additional foods that I can eat that contain carbs but are whole foods with no simple sugar? I am really trying to break my sugar/carb addiction.

While people get kids of both genders in all kinds of circumstances I feel that by far your best chance of a boy is not losing weight 6 weeks before TTC. I only lost 3 lbs before I got my daughter, I gained 3 lbs before 3 of my 4 boys and held steady with the 4th. I'm not saying your chances are ZERO if you lose the weight, but I sure don't think it's optimal.
We see people getting girls with some regularity on low carb, high protein diets. I think your best bet of a boy is protein + good carbs + animal and saturated fats so I hesitate for you to pick now to break your "carb habit." Women who cut carbs too far often end up unable to conceive.
Fruits and higher carb veg like sweet potatoes, beetroot, etc are better carbs than candy and sugar.

Oh no! I had pushed back my sway to June b/c I wanted to tone more and lose a few lbs! So your saying this isn't a good idea? Should I go for May even though I would only have 4 weeks in? Keep in mind that I was eating a pretty boy friendly diet before this past week and a half....

For best odds of blue PLEASE DO NOT LOSE WEIGHT unless you have a minimum 6 months before your sway to normalize at your new weight.
It does not matter how blue friendly your diet. I think we are seeing best results with people gaining a very small amount of weight or else holding steady where you're at.

Okay thanks for the advice!! My only concern is that I will be eating extremely healthy and lifting weights/doing cardio which is a healthier change in my life. I'm afraid this is going to naturally lead me to lose weight.
My plan is to eat carbs like nuts, fruits, and vegetables. I am really trying to stay away from processed foods. Is there any way the muscle I'm creating will replace the fat and keep my weight steady? Thanks sorry for being so ridiculous about this!

If you eat a lot of nuts and whole fat dairy products, you will gain/stay steady.... Muscles weigh more then fat...

Thanks! I'm just having a huge diet overhaul...from "diet" foods to richer all natural foods. I was nervous that the elimination of all the processed stuff (especially breads, cookies, cakes...) would make me lose weight. Hopefully it will all balance out and the fat will go away and be replaced with muscle!!

Well guess it depends on your body... I'm plant based and eat a high fat diet.... My weight stays pretty steady... Which I wish I could lose before starting the boy diet! If you do start to lose... Add more nuts, avocado & potatoes :)... When are you ttc?

I am normally thin and I generally run miles. Since my last was born in June, I haven't been able to lose the last 10 pounds! 😩 i've been so busy with work and a baby that doesn't sleep through the night that working out was the last thing on my mind. I'm a school social worker so the year is winding down and my baby has started sleeping so I am just now getting back into working out. I was hoping to be able to lose the last 10 pounds before I swayed.
When I started this paleo style diet, I instantly lost a few pounds. That's why am concerned I will keep losing. I was supposed to start trying in June but I may wait until the fall now.
I'm ebf and I haven't had af return yet. My husband isn't fully on board with another kid anyway so maybe he will change his mind by the fall. You're trying in June? I wanted to start trying immediately because we experience secondary infertility when conceiving or second and I didn't want to waste time.

I see, your lucky you lose weight so easily! Yes, we are ttc in June, I wanted May but we have a family reunion out of state and would be too stressful! I have 2 girls already and this would be our last shot.... So I want to plan it down to the last tiny detail!! Hope you can talk your husband into it!

Haha, I wish! I don't lose weight fast anymore but running has always helped keep me thin. I'm a little nervous because I just started my first postpartum af and now I have a real desire to start ttc this summer. The problem is I recently lost about 5 pounds. Does that mean I've already screwed my sway up and have to wait 6 months?

Yes, there is EVERY chance your weight will stay perfectly steady. If you want to stay away from processed foods that is totally up to you. Remember, things like potatoes and sweet potatoes are not processed but are carbs and are good at keeping weight on. Another option is something like brown rice in a pilaf or soup, corn on the cob - anything starchy/sweet can help keep weight on.

You can't control what has already happened, I just don't want you to deliberately set out to lose weight. That's all. Try when it is right for YOU!!!
