View Full Version : forget the supplements!

(for me) im finding on this diet with all the meat and nuts im eating, that my hormones are changing without the use of supplements. my cm is drier than normal (in the days leading up to O). i mean THAT parts not good, but as long as i get enough ewcm for TTC. but im happy that i know that ive changed something about my body and that all the eating and weight gain is HOPEFULLY paying off! also 2 facial pimples during AF.
as far as supplements, im only taking: prenatal (has zinc and calcium in it), dha, and folic acid (4x/s a day). im meeting my K+ needs i think, defly my caloric needs, and close to Na needs. but BS is defly maintained (unless i get super busy which happens sometimes). its hard for me to stop in the middle of a task to eat. i have to FINISH what im doing first. but im working on that. also weights 3x/wk.
unless, my body is still recovering/readjusting from l-arginine seems like ive changed my body's hormones. i re-read (IG material) that the purpose of supplements are for increasing EWCM and to increase pH in CM (for the purpose of TTCboy..so regardless of your fertility status).
is this right? anyone else have similar experience?
so im assuming if ihave ewcm and if my pH is acceptable, than no point in additional supplements?
im just worried that O will be later than a normal cycle (before the diet) due to an assumed increase in testosterone. also i had some ewcm on cd10 with some blood tinged in it. anyone hear of that and know what it could be from.
boy i write a lot dont i?

I think that's great!!! A lot of us with all boys never did anything odd or special at all to have them, just a boy-friendly diet, eating patterns, and lifestyle! That's all you really need to do for blue.
Rem. that IG believes it is pH and minerals in the CM that sway (they want EWCM because it's high in pH, not because it raises sperm numbers), so that's their focus rather than boosting overall fertility. The Robitussin/Mucinex might solve any CM dryness problems without affecting hormones anyway.
The CM tinged with blood is quite normal and can be caused by a lot of diff things, including yoru cervix being a little injured or irritated. It will only raise your pH, so don't worry about it.
Good luck and sending you more blue dust than you know what to do with!!

Oh yeah and your O ~should~ stay pretty close to normal because yoru estrogen should go up in addition to your testosterone.

I'm on the exact same page as you Gizmo. I'm kind of a "naturalist" anyway, so all the supplements worried me, but I'm finding the diet changes are doing the trick just fine! Oh and lemon water :) Lots of lemon water. The only thing I'm taking is a prenatal, extra folic acid, fish oil (only one a day) and one potassium a day. After my l-arg problems, I decided it wasn't worth it. The diet alone seems to getting even my non-ovulating pH up (it's now 6.4 when it used to not even get over 5). Plus I agree with Atomic on the lifestyles issues... stress, muscle mass, etc. I've started doing more Pilates and lifting weights and we decided to sell our house and build a new one all in the same month we start TTC :) How's that for stressful??? Trying to keep the house that I watch my three kiddos in all day clean for showings! HA! That should be fun!

thats awesome soontobesix! defly diet and exercise are working. im lemon water all day except half a glass at night bc i bring it up to the bedroom with me and i dont like lemon water to be sitting in a glass all night as a just in case i get thirsty drink.
i havent checked my pH yet since i started with lemon water but im sure its doing something. nice to know im not alone!!!

!!
so what is GD's theory on what supps are for? fertility? nutrients?

Well, I don't think there IS an official GD-sway like there is on IG. This is more of a let's-share-info-and-opinions kinda place.
I know some people on this site think the FGD works and pH works and timing works, so they're more in line with the IG beliefs.
My personal take is that supps boost overall fertility, increase CM, and help maximize the environment for sperm survival. And also that more nutrients make your body think times are good and a boy has a better chance of survival.

Ok but lets just don't forget that not everyone is this lucky. We can't just all forget the sups and drinks and all because there is some lucky ones and there is some like me.
I do the diet , weight training , ect. for months now and still I need sups and drinks to help me out to see a little change at all. (for example I eat meat every day but started the gelatin drinks and I see some hair grow now only after I started)
So Im happy we have help with all this for those of us having a hard time changing.

defly flava. im still doing drinks (will do bsd on month of attempt, COT, potassiium drinks with v8 and nyf). i was going to do gelatin but it dried me out. but even with no gelatin no l-arg this time, im still drier than normal (just from the diet all tehmeat and nuts im assuming)! so i may need SOMETHING just for CM. but for me, i dont think need the supps for the increased T. still no extra hairs on me so far :-( just a couple-a pimples that went away fast.
i agree with you that some ppl defly need supps and who knows maybe ill cont doing it this way and still end up with a girl!!

so is FGD similar to IG? or the same?

FGD is similar to IG in that it does focus on mineral content (promotes for boys high salt, low ca/mg), but the diet itself is somewhat less restrictive IMO. Here's the GD article about it, and then there is more info in the forums if you dig around:

Oddly mucinex didn't seem to do much for me! I was surprised by that b/c everyone seems to have such good results with that one. I'll be curious to know if it does anything for you gals. Flava did you use it when TTC before?

IG is based on the FGD, with some other stuff thrown in. So FGD is less restrictive than IG is.

You do need to be sure to drink enough liquid when you're taking Mucinex or else it won't work for you. Don't overdo it (becasue you can actually DIE from drinking too much), just drink an extra glass of water or juice in the morning and again at night....although most blue swayers are already drinking like a fish!!

I think the sodium levels can dry you out too.
