I had it done with DS1, since he was 8 days late and they wouldn't let me go to 12 days past my due date because of low amniotic fluid. They striped my membranes at 9:00am on 8/30/2010 and he was born at 3:53am on 8/31/2010! I went into labor exactly 12hours after it was done at 9:00pm.

I was mildly uncomfortable. It felt like menstrual cramps when it was done, and I had Braxton Hicks for a while afterward.

I didn't have it done with DS2 because he came four days early! I would do it again in a heartbeat.

GL to you!

I had it every apt with my midwives starting at 37 weeks with the last two pregnancies. It hurt for me but only bc I was not very dialated and had posterior cervix. My babies didn't drop until labour (which I'm told is common). I had spotting after and some cramps but I unfortunately did not go into labour and went overdue both times. it still made me feel like I was actively doing something to get the show on the road. I would definitely do it again😊
Good luck

I had it done when my son was a few days late. It wasn't memorably painful or uncomfortable. It also didn't start my labor.

I had it done twice. It will definitely start some contractions but if baby isnt ready they will stop. I thought getting it done hurt a lot but my cervix is in a funny spot which makes everything more painful to me.

the sweep isnt such a big deal the stretch though if they have to stretch your cervix to me anyway was excruciating. Labor and the actual delivery didn't hurt as much as that did. I actually kicked the doctor out that did it twice after I told him to stop.

Had it done once and it wasn't great but not the worst pain I've ever had either. I'd equate to getting ears pierced but in a more sensitive part of anatomy. I was 4 or 5 days late when I had it done, and I was having mild contractions in the car on the way home and had him about 12 hours later.

Thankyou guys! im nervous but definitely having it done Tuesday. Its optional but i will be induced the 28 and if it will even give me a chance of things happening on their own i have to try it

That is the biggest thing baby jones. If this gets you the birth experience you want, you go for it! Remember everyone's pain threshold is different and all in how its done. A sharp pain is always worse than a slowly increasing pain but some people can just shrug both off like its nothing.

What Rosie said. Unless baby is actually ready then only medical induction or a problem will start labour. When baby's lungs are fully mature they release a surfactant that sends a hormone signal to your body that the time is right

I would never have it done again. Ds1 was an EMCS at 30 weeks so ds2 was an attempt at a VBAC. I'd never been in labour and being told (wrongly) by the consultant that they would only 'allow' me to go 10 days over my due date before another c-section I panicked and asked for a S&S at 40 weeks. I wasn't ready, it was very painful & my waters went that night. I didn't progress past 2cm in 36 hours so had to have another CS. With ds3 I refused all intervention, kept very active & had my VBA2C. Good luck :)

Thank you for sharing that!!!

Yes can't stress strongly enough that when mine worked I was already overdue!! Doing them too early won't work anyway and could possibly cause issues.

They can cause a lot of discomfort and a long latent phase
