View Full Version : Bleedig on day 13 of cycle? edit: period late or pregnant?!

Not sure where to put this question. I've written about my short cycles before: http://genderdreaming.com/forum/gender-swaying-general-discussion/44453-short-cyles-not-ovulating.html and have seen my gp. My blood was tested and I had mild anemia and vit D deficiency. Since a few months I've been taking my iron pills and vit d pills to get my levels up. Also I limited my stress a lot, so can't blame it on stress anymore either. My last cycle was 22 days (most of the time its 21 days) and on day 13 (yesterday) I started bleeding bright red. It was just a little bit, but never had it before so it was pretty confusing. My ovulation was probably around day 10, but thats only based on the cm and thats not reliable so cant be sure. Should I see my doctor again or is this harmless? I can't be pregnant, we always use protection. Which I know can fail, but thats unlikely I think/hope.

Probably harmless. What happens is that around your ovulation (both a bit before and after) your cervix is quite soft and can get slightly injured and may bleed a little. This is the source of most bright red bleeding when you aren't pregnant (and often when you are LOL) at least around ovulation. Bleeding that "means something" is often brownish or pinkish.

Okay I know I might be worrying way too early, but I haven't been getting my period when I expected it, am actually 6 days late now. I took two pregnancy tests, they were both negative. I fear my ovulation came much later than I thought and I may be too early to test. I don't think I'm pregnant, but we did have an oopsy on day 20 of my cycle. Thought it was safe as I was sure my ovulation had come and gone and my period was supposed to be on the 21nd day! Could it be possible I had a super mild period on day 13 of my last cycle and then started a new cycle with a little bit of bleeding and I ovulated right after we had unprotected sex? Noooo I feel so stupid :( Am so worried because I have such a boy friendly lifestyle now. Really hate to think I blew my last chance without swaying. It's just strange, first getting such short cycles, then spotting and I've never had that before and now this? My hormones are haywire!

No one experienced a sudden longer cycle with spotting in the middle of the cycle? :worry: tomorrow I will test again, but am just really hoping someone can assure me they've had it too and all was fine: no baby! :drama:

We get a period when we ovulate, but anytime our body has an increase in fertility, whether we ovulate or not, we can have a breakthrough bleed after. So, yes I suppose on day 13, it could have been a breakthrough bleed, and then your body ovulated shortly after...it IS possible, but I am not sure how likely. Hoping it turns out ok for you!
Also, I do spot A LOT from ovulation to AF, but I am still breastfeeding and I think I have mild endometriosis...so I am not sure if what I get is "normal" or not.

Thank you! Yes I was sure I had my ovulation before the spotting, as I've always been regular and feel my ovulation and get ecwm. Of course not for sure, but I've never had a reason to doubt the obvious fertile signs of my body. So when I was bleeding I didn't think it was anything weird. But it is weird I'm not getting my period, right? With my youngest son I tested positive 9 days after ovulation. And we did not have sex around my ovulation, only on day 20 or 21 of my cycle. I just really hope my ovulation didnt come very late this time. But I fear all i can do is wait and hope for the best...

I am hoping you get your AF soon hun but just in my own experience I would sometimes spot between O and AF, though I have read that may be due to the Zoloft I am taking. My cycles are all over the place right now but we're always a steady 31 days before having DS2 and before DS1 as well. The only cycle I distinctly remembering Oing around CD20/21 was when we conceived DS2 though I only remember so well because we were ttc and I was going crazy waiting on a +opk!

Thanks! Im taking lexapro and nsaids which both can affect fertility negatively and delay or even prevent O. But have been on them for over 7 months now and seems kind of weird for it to happen only now? Cramping has stopped, still no AF. Its just freaking me out as I cant use my nsaids during pregnancy and I would need meds before I get pregnant to prevent neural tube defects and thrombosis. Have also been seeing blind spots in my eyes since last night, so I can hardly see even what Im writing, so weird! Like Im getting a migraine, excpt I dont have a headache. Im taking my son to the gp in a few hours as I suspect an earinfection, will ask him what he thinks.

Well my gp was helpful as always :sigh: told me to come back if AF hasn't started next week. So many weird things going on in my body and am reading waaay to much into them. Low and hard cervix? A tumor! CM? Another ovulation! Triplets! Hot flashes? Omg menopauze! I'm so exhausting to be around :sigh:

Anything is possible but it's not super likely. More likely is that you're just normalizing thanks to the Vit. D and the iron and you'll get AF CD 28-32. Or, conversely, you may not have Oed yet at all and are looking at a longer than normal cycle and still haven't Oed.
Did you notice any O type symptoms around when you had your oopsy?? I tend to think most of us here on the site are pretty knowledgeable about when we might be Oing and would see EWCM or have some symptoms, so if you had no symptoms, I'd feel ok with the likelihood you are prob. not pg.

Well, getting your period so quickly is kind of weird too LOL. So it may be just a different "flavor"of the same problem, if that makes sense. If hormones are wacky, they can be wacky in a variety of ways.

You told your doctor you were having blind spots and have history of thrombosis, and s/he told you to come back in a week?? Get a second opinion!
FWIW though, I have the hormonal migraines and see the spots, but don't really get the bad headaches. THey don't last but an hour or two though. I am worried about you, I think you need another opinion.

Thanks AS. I had loads of EWCM on day 10, 11 and 12 and some spotting on day 13. So i was convinced I had O'ed. I don't temp or take O tests, but I had no reason to doubt my symptoms. I had that typical thicker yellowish cm after that, which for me is an indication O has come and gone and AF will show up. So i was waiting and then... nothing. I was so sure I was not fertile when we oopsied and I still am sure. Looking back there was no sign. My DH did say that I felt more dry than usual and my cervix was shaped like a hard funnel. It still is today. But then again, since DH never gets so go in without a condom, it could be that he just noticed a difference because of that. I'm getting a little worried about thrombosis and blind spots, is there a connection? I googled it, but have no other symptoms. I will call another doctor now. Thanks!

I'm going to see a different doctor in 2 hours, his assistent was not happy about the blind spots. My blood may be to thick?

The other doctor did some extra checks and mainly focussed on my eyes because I have a specific type of rheumatism that can cause iris infections. But all seemed well. She discussed it with a colleague and he also had a look (name thrombosis and every doctor gets super serious, she was in training still so she had everything double checked), but everything appears normal. About my long cycle, she said that just happens sometimes and she doesn't think I'm pregnant or it would have come up in the tests now. She suggested I get my hcg levels tested, but would only get the results on monday and by then I should also detect it in my urine also. Guess its just a major waiting game for me now and if the blurred vision comes back I must phone again. She didn't think something was up with my hormones. I'm going to try the PCOS diet to try and balance my hormones and she said that would be a good idea, so will give that a try and see if I feel better.

Fx for you hun, I hope you figure everything out. I'm so glad you got fully checked out bc those are scary symptoms. I have Rheumatism too but never knew it could affect eyes!
Do you chart, even just CM? I'd love to take a peek. I'm hopeless without being able to see things visually.

May 9th, 2015, 08:55 AM
Thanks hun! Not sure if it can affect the eyes with all rheumatic illnesses, but I know it does with mine. My mom has the same disease and she's had iris infections twice now. She said the pain was worse than anything, so I bet that's not it for me as I don't have pain. It's just so strange, still no AF, day 31 now. And still negative tests, so am slowly letting go of the fear that I might be pregnant. Big relief! Of course I want another bubs, but not like this, not now. Oh and I don't chart, was planning on doing it as soon as AF starts. But maybe it makes sense to start now anyway? Regardless of AF showing up?

ANY time you see spots it can mean things like a stroke which you'd have a higher risk of with the thrombosis. I'm glad you got checked and everything seemed ok but don't rest on your laurels if anything seems weird then go back!
Dana-Alicia
May 9th, 2015, 12:51 PM
Oh that is so scary! I actually worried if I could be having a stroke at the time, so I did some tests with myself like lifting my arms at the same time and walking in a straight line. Everything seemed fine, but I'll be on my guard!

Well looks like I'm pregnant. Had a very vague BFP this morning. Can't believe this!! So happy and scared at the same time. How did this happen?!! I mean lol I know how babies are made, but how can we make a baby on day 20 of my 21 day cycle? I'm sure I ovulated on day 10 of my cycle!! Could my body have detected sperms and thought: oh look at all of you there! Little cutiepies! Let me quickly pop another egg! You're welcome :curtsey: Wait, whut? :holysheep::shrug:

Congrats!!! I think you must have ovulated later, sometimes our bodies gear up to O and we have all the signs of ovulating but then we ovulate later. I hope you have a wonderful pregnancy!

Yes, that's probably what happened. But what surprises me so much, is that I always have very short cycles of around 21 days. So what are the odds of having unprotected sex once (the last time we did that I got pregnant with my other kids on the obvious fertile days) and in that month I get a super long cycle. I mean, how is that possible, what are the odds? I'm so amazed at my body, I guess she really wanted to have another baby and didn't want to wait another year lol. I have come to know my body very well, I know the signs, I was convinced we were safe. I feel so silly now.

You didn't O on CD 10! Your ovulation was delayed this month and then you caught the egg when it showed up.

It happens and usually when there is an oopsie, it is because someone Oed early or Oed late. My first son was from an early O when I thought it should be safe. My cycles are almost always clockwork but it only takes once!!
At least you only had one attempt = girl. When I got pg I had 2. :/ (although I wanted a boy so it was all good for me!)

Some scientists speculate that the reason why humans have "hidden ovulation" is to trick the women themselves into getting pregnant. If we came into obvious "heat" like animals do, we would have figured it out and not gotten pregnant as often!

You didn't O on CD 10! Your ovulation was delayed this month and then you caught the egg when it showed up.
But but buuut! :giggle: What was the day 13 bleed about then? Was that a teeny tiny AF? It was like a few drops! If that was the case, then I did O on CD10, but I thought I was CD20. And then the cycle before this was only 13 days. This is crazy, here I was thinking I have PCOS or pre-menopauzal and we conceive imediately when we have unprotected sex after 3,5 years. And I totally think thats what happened, a hidden ovulation. I mean I didn't even any EWCM! It's been thick and yellowish and not a lot. DH actually said I felt dry. The type of discharge I get when O has come and gone. :suprise:
I think I have a slight chance at pink. But has anyone ever had a girl while on probiotics though? I'm sure they did, but the probiotics and vitamins have got me down a bit. This is most likely last baby for us.

That's what I thought at first, but it's been 19 days ago, I usually test quite early. And besides we had the oopsie on I think the 30th of may and the bleed was on the 21st. With Ds2 I tested positive after 9 days, now I've been on day 10 or 9. But it's possible I guess, however we've always been safe before. Even though condoms are not 100%, I still think it's more likely I conceive after the spotting.

The only other thing I can think of is if you DTD around that time and it made things a little bloody for a while...
