View Full Version : Temping question

I started temping even though I don't always fall into that perfect temping scenario (like getting a solid sleep...)but I've been good about taking it as soon as I open my eyes with it getting up. And at around the same time.
Today I couldn't find my thermometer so I had to get up.
I laid back down to take it.
Then I fell back asleep. And took it again, but at a later time (my kids slept in since they are a little sick).
Do I use the first temp or the 2nd? The 1st was approx 30 mins earlier than norm, and lower than norm; and the 2nd was about an hour later and much much higher than usual (but still normal as far as health goes).

Basically you are supposed to take your temp at the same time every morning ( as best you can with little ones) with at least 3 hours of sleep. Once you get up and move it is not your resting temp. I would probably use the second one after you slept but just make a note of it on your chart.

I would use the first temp as it was only 30 mins early and after a solid sleep. Moving a little is ok, unless you got up and walked around?

You can also adjust temps although they say its not as accurate. FF has an adjuster calculator or there is one on the my monthly cycles site (I use this since I haven't paid for a VIP FF membership this time).

I also would go with the first temp. When you are temping a while you get used to adjusting your temps if you need to :) I take mine at the same time every day, I have one alarm set where I temp and a second alarm to get up a little later :D

I am confused as she said she got up to to get her thermometer and laid back down and then took it. I thought you are not supposed to get up.

I keep my thermometer under my pillow and occasionally I can't reach/find it. I do lift my pillow and get my thermometer then temp. It doesn't make a difference in temps 'for me'. We are all different and it could make a difference for some.
My way of thinking is to use the temp after the longest block of sleep closest to your usual temping time.

I'm new to tempting.
Usually by how much does your tempt go up after ovulation?
Are we talking about a whole Degree or 2 or just tenth of degree?

Usually it will go up 0.3-1. It can vary based on individual hormone levels. Mine always went up a lot, but I think I may be an exception. Take a gander at my charts on my signature, if you want.

I got up and moved my blankets. I also keep it under my pillow and it was awol lol but I did stand up and move my covers, but didn't move to much I guess. Thanks for the tips ladies . I'll go with the first, although I'm unsure what you mean about adjusting the temps using an adjuster. I do have FF but the free version.. As much as I despise alarms I may try to set one too; I don't want to get all Martha about temping but I DO Want to have a rough idea what my body is doing.

I have been using the calculator to adjust my temps here: MyMonthlyCycles > Basal Body Temperature (BBT) Adjuster (http://www.mymonthlycycles.com/bbtadjust.jsp)

You just put in the time you normally take your temp and the time you did take it and it works out what it would have been at the normal time.

I need to get a 2nd alarm as I always wake early when I know I have to temp, I have to avoid being Martha about temping too as it stresses me out but it also stresses me not knowing where I am in my cycle and I really like having O confirmed. I might have missed O this month if I hadn't seen that my temps didn't go up enough to confirm it as I was 90% sure I had O'd a few days ago but looks like it will actually be today.

I think I'm like that. Idk it's so early for me to know, and this is a faster sway. I'm already stressing a little lately about exercise and diet (I don't want to, I just see so many different recommendations that I can't help but wonder if I'm doing enough). But if I can confirm O (especially after messing with vitex) I might feel like I can chill about at least one thing.

it doesn't matter, you are looking for the PATTERN and not the individual temps in and of themselves.
