Out of interest, when you produced your lovely pink bundles how much chocolate/sweet treats etc. were you eating and how often?

I ate a ton of sweets when I got pg with my girls. Loads of them. Cupcakes, cookies, cakes, candy bars, chocolates, ice cream, "granola" bars ... seriously, if it was made with sugar it went in my mouth. And the funny thing is I would only drink diet soda  Like I was scared of sugar?!?! So funny.

Anyhow I would estimate most days my calorie intake was near 3000 and to be honest, probably 50% of that was straight processed carbs. I ran tons and just ate whatever I wanted. It really was pretty normal for me to eat 2-3 candy bars a day, and that alone is at least 800 calories.

I don't like sweets nor chocolate. So I'd say I was eating tiny peace of milk choc every other day or sometimes not so often lol!
BUT! I was drinking Coke like my life depended on it. I'm talking 4 large glasses of it daily so I guess I got my sugar shots from it lol! ( in addition, Coke is super acidifying because of orto-phosphoric acid in it) Most of the time I'm blaming Coke for being pink mama LOL!

I've stopped drinking Coke completely and it was 1 of the hardest aspects of my sway and I'm not kidding.

looooooaaaaaaaaaadddddddssssssss!!!!!!!!!!!!!! sweets probably made up about 80% of my diet, never got an appetite cos id eat too many sweets.usually i would have breakfast at about 10.30\11am and that would consist of a chocolate bar,and or white bagel smothered in butter! maybe i would have 1 piece of fruit per week! never drank water, either cordial or coke, the more sugary the better.hope this helps! just goes to show why i didnt have a chance conceiving a boy with no nutrients.

I have the hugest sweet tooth ever. Seriously. That is all I snacked on before. I would eat loads of cookies, cakes, twinkies, donutes, candy... you name it. All day long! I have always eaten like that, and I somehow managed to get one boy out of it, but two girls as well. I am not eating sugar now, and it is making me lose weight!!

I don't care much for sweets so never really eat much at all. Like maybe 1 chocolate / week?
And no sweets at all when ttc #4 .

thank you for sharing!
there do seem to be so many girl-mums who have a sweet tooth, almost too many that make me wonder if there are other benefits to chocolate, etc., that outweigh the "blue sway" aspects such as endorphins making the women who eat them feel more relaxed/less stressed, the dairy, the blood glucose rise/crash following sweet foods.

I do also normally eat a lot of chocolate/cake (i.e. 1bar of milk chocolate or slice of cake during the day, and then another in the evening to fill that hunger gap that nothing else fills) although I did get a boy still eating that way last time but I otherwise had a near perfect blue sway without knowing it. ;)

I eat like this and i have boys lol I would totally eat a bagel with butter and chocolate all day long, some candy thrown in and then maybe some chicken and pasta for dinner...maybe that is what is swaying for me more? A question i have is do you ladies who are eating like this have struggles with your weight at all?

August 16th, 2011, 11:20 AM
queen-of-harts, I'm only eating like this because I'm swaying girl (although I'm getting to quite like it!) but I'm losing a good amount of weight quite quickly in doing so - of course I'm watching my calories too.

I ask because i DO struggle with my weight and so i was wondering if the ladies who eat lots of candy and choc. yet got girls maybe their bodies respond differently to all the sweets than my body does,my body takes sugar and treats and firmly attaches itself as fat to my bum and thighs lol are you sugar eating girl moms thin still? also one persons idea of a ton a chocolate is different. My idea of a ton is 2 candy bars a day while someone else sees a ton as 2 candy bars a week or 2 candybars for breakfast,,2 for lunch and 2 for dinner kwim?

What's up with bagel and butter ? I thought it's ok to eat it for ttc blue?? I eat it with ham so it's not ok?

Oh and I think 2 candy bars /day is tons . well for me lol

q-o-h - I've never gained weight really despite all the junk I eat. After giving birth I was the highest BMI I'd ever been and even then that was mid-healthy-range, but my weight has dropped a bit since then too. I saw on TV (Supersize vs superskinny) one girl ate almost only chocolate, but she was severely underweight - her chocolate took the place of regular foods in her diet so she was full on it but not actually eating enough to gain weight.

Queen I also never had a weight issue in spite of the 2-3 candy bars (plus cookies, cake ... seriously, I ate gross amounts of sweets) but I also was training for marathons and running easily 50 or more miles a week most of the time, and I think the total calories I was eating was fine given my activity level so I stayed thin. To sway boy I dropped the sweets AND the running and I think they cancelled each other out b/c I didn't gain much at all on the notoriously fattening boy diet.

for DD1 i proba ate more refined sugars than i should have. i consider myself medium to small build. however i can gain weight very easily espl in the thighs and tummy. when i diet o have cut out carbs altogether not even fruits. and i can lose weight pretty well and fast like that. so wiuth DD1 i read somewhere that it snot good to diet (restrict foods) when trying to conceive so i stopped and was gaining a few pouns here and there bbut on breads and rices, etc.
with DD2 i was dieting and exercising..cardio mostly and limting most bad carbs. i cut out choc about a month or two before i had planned to conceive with both due to caffein in choc (at least at that time i thought it was ano-no). i gain weight easily on bad carbs esply if i dont do anthing about it (exercise) to get rid of it right away.

I did not eat much sugar, but did have a spoonful in my morning coffee vat on the way to the gym. I was like Begonia, I worked out a TON, like 2 hours a day, and I ate well, but just not a *lot* of food. Never breakfast, never anything after dinner at 6pm.....except some wine, LOL. I was always a steady weight, and would definitely eat some sweets if at a party or something, but not much at home. I REALLY think I made girls for 2 reasons: "famine" or low-everything diet, and low testosterone from being um, oppressed by the ex and felt really pretty trapped and helpless in life at that time. But even though I did lift weights, I did a ton of cardio and was super fit.

(Fast forward to swaying blue for a year and now weigh 35lbs more and don't work out, LOL.)

Yeah what is up with 25?!?! I remember a friend telling me that 25 changes things, and it totally did metabolism-wise. I'm 33 now and haven't really noticed another shift, but I distinctly remember noticing that right around 25 things did seem to stick to me a bit more!

i guess thats when our bodies just naturally start to decline in strength. our peak strength is like early 20s for girls and i think mid 20s for guys and they start to dwindle later 20s or early 30s i THINK. doesnt that suck? i mean we just have until age 25 and then thats it! we actually have to WORK at it after that!!! lame!

I had a lot of ice cream and milky ways - probably more than with my boys, but I still indulged from time to time with them. Before newest DD, though, we were having a lot of ice cream!

Hmmm, I have a major sweet tooth, and boys . . . not into salt at all. I wonder if high sweets but low nutrients sway girl, whereas sweets in moderation (like I eat them--for dessert after a balanced meal) could sway boy?

Yes because i love the sweets but they are added to my regular foods so its probably screaming to my body that i have tons of nutrients AND calories, its good all around.

I have said this before (sorry!!) but that seems to be one commonly recurring theme with girl moms. A lot of sugar, and then fake sugar too.

I completely agree. I also think there is a HUGE negative effect on fertility that comes from a high sugar intake (unless the sugar swings are mitigated by protein/complex carbs)

Plus the data seems to indicate that at least in rats and mice, a diet high in carbs = girls and a diet with a lot of fats = boys.

Bagel and butter with ham is fine for TTC blue. I think QoH was just mentioning that she did eat a lot of simple carbs (but I would point out that butter may sway blue more than we realize)

That is totally what I think. carbs alone = girls, protein + carbs = boys.

Carbs alone causes your blood sugar to raise sky high and your body releases massive amounts of insulin and then your blood sugar crashes. Protein causes your blood sugar to rise more gradually, not rise as high as carbs alone, and then your blood sugar level stays high for much longer after eating.

Plus, when you add in fats, your body uses fats to construct testosterone and estrogen, and those hormones in large doses, also sway blue.

I think it's fine as an occasional treat as long as you keep under the magic totals for hte day and watch that fat intake!! White choc is prob. better than brown (but white choc leaves me cold.)

I agree- I ate lots of carbs- cereal, bread, crackers, sugar, fruit, but not a lot of protein. I lived for sugar. But, the month I conceived DD, I was avoiding sugar/dairy/meat because I read that it can negatively affect fertility- ugh. So, I wasn't eating much since I was on vacay with fam and couldn't control what was served.

My sister eats tons of candy and cakes and has two boys-but she also is very fertile, so that probably helps her a bit.

I agree with the fats- after eating lots of fats and fish oil- my cycles improved and I got mad amounts of ewcm. So, I think this helps!

The more I read about the diets of moms who conceived girls vs. boys, the more I think we really are on the right track. When we had these sorts of threads on IG (when I was first looking into swaying, before I found out about the TW hypothesis and the MDH and the blood sugar stuff) people's answers were just all over the map...some of the boy moms ate dairy and some of the girl moms didn't...same with caffeine and sodium. There just never seemed to be any kind of pattern. I really do think that we are onto something here!!!

I love the information in this thread!! It is soo helpful to compare my own diet to everyone's. I see that my problem is I eat equal amounts of proteins as carb...partially, because I was told to eat protein to keep my blood sugar levels equalized for my hypoglycemia and it has worked. Soooo......If I cut out protein sources other than peanut butter, remove fats such as butter and stick to my carbs and sugars..I have a better chance...BUT that negates the weight loss part....maybe the malnutrition will win out over the sugar levels??? And I'll lose weight because of not eating nutritiously...I'm going to eat more rice as well..seems to work.

If you're eating less protein, less cals, less fat, and losing weight, you have more wiggle room on the blood sugar stuff. You may be surprised that it's easier to lose weight on LE than you think. Focus more on veggies, less on simple carbs.

Just like the other thread we were chatting on, I'm just trying to explain the reasons why people can eat foods that we might think of as "pink" and conceive boys, and vice versa. It's not the foods, it's what they do inside your body that counts.

I don't eat a lot of sugar (I have 2 DD's) and I use Stevia in my coffee. But ITA with all of atomic's theories on diet. I have a stereotypically girl diet. I can literally eat an eggo for breakfast with coffee and then graze empty calorie snacks and then have one big dinner every day. I have no consistent diet of protein + carbs. When I do, I actually feel sick and overfull. So you need to find a diet that works for your body that makes your body feel good and at it's healthiest.
