Hello :)
I will be on my first cycle of clomid. I started to spot lightly today and I called my OB to confirm what "cycle first day" is considered. The nurse told me to consider day one any light spotting... I wasn't expecting that. I will be taking clomid days 3-7.
I don't want to question the nurse... but if I spot for a couple of days before full flow.. is this a problem?
Thank you so much for any help!

I don't spot before my period but some feel that cd1 is the first day of full bleeding, some say any bleeding or spotting is the beginning of your period and should be considered cd1 so me personally don't know because I have heard so many conflicting reasons on what cd1 is

I'm like XXdreaming, no spotting, but you could your first day of "flow" as CD1....if your spotting is heavy enough to be considered flow, you would count that as CD1. There really are conflicting ideas about it like XX said, but you have to just go with your gut and the day your AF truly starts, does that make sense?

I was told the first day you would need to use a pad would be day 1. Spotting on and off is usually not day 1. Also, it needs to be a flow before 4:00PM to be considered day 1.

That's interesting - so if AF starts after 4pm cd1 is the following day?

I called my OB a second time and she told me that any bleeding... spotting or full flow should be considered day one. I told her that I may spot for 3 days before a full flow starts and she that is fine.... ugh... I am confused once again...

Well, is your spotting the kind that requires a pad or tampon? I don't know, I always consider my day 1 when I am having flow, and like NBP said, need tampon. I guess it's up to you, but I don't think everyone takes Clomid on 3-7....I saw lots of FF charts where they did from 1-5 or 2-6 and so on.

Thank you LolaInLove :) It's not enough for a tampon yet. But I think that what I may do is just see what happens in the next 24 hours or so. :)
Thank you again for all your help! :)

When I was on Clomid I had to take primolut to induce AF. I spotted for a few days before actual AF showed and was told to count CD1 as the first full flow day. Hope that helps!

Traditionally with Natural Family Planning methods, CD 1 is the first day of full flow (and interesting about the after 4 pm thing...that explains a couple of wonky cycles I have had lately!!)
But that having been said, since your doc's office is the one doing the monitoring/prescribing, it's best to go off of what they say to do because their protocol may be slightly different. They may have better results doing it this way or some data that we do not have.

Thank you Atomic!!! :) :)
Just a small update ... after calling my OB's office again and speaking to another nurse... I decided to consider today day one as she said to wait until I have my normal "flow" to begin counting my cycle days. :)

How frustrating that you hear a different thing depending on who you speak to! Glad you know what you're doing now though, exciting!
