Hi everyone,

I am new to the board, I had my mirena removed a couple of months ago and we are ttc a little girl! We currently have the sweetest 2 year old son and would love to have a sibling for him!

So I posted a few days ago that I got a pos OPK at what I thought was day 10 of my cycle (I had a period after a chemical pregnancy from Sept 1-7). I continued taking OPKs after my first positive which I know you aren't really supposed to do...anyway, I kept getting strong positives for like 3 days and still got one this morning. I had read before that if you keep getting positive OPKs for days you could be pregnant so I dipped a frer and a wondfo pregnancy test at the same time as my OPK this morning....and I got positive pregnancy tests on both! The test line is about half as dark as the control line on both.

Now I have no idea what is going on with my body!! My husband and I did BD on CD 5 when my period was about to end...which we never do...but that would have been 8 days ago so I guess I could have Ov'd on my period after the chemical?? I did check a frer on CD 2 and it was negative (I got a faint positive at 8 dpo last cycle and then started my CD1 the same day).

So I guess I'm wondering if it's possible to ovulate during your period, like CD 5? Has anyone had any similar experiences? I think maybe my body is just really messed up coming off of the Mirena and then having a CP...I will have to call my doctor tomorrow!

It is definitely possible! With DS1, I had to have Oed on CD5 based on how he was measuring at my first scan! They would have moved up my due date earlier, but they couldn't move in beyond my CD1!!!

Huge Congrats!!!

Thanks for your story, it makes me feel better!! Maybe I'll test tomorrow morning again and see if the line is a little darker...We are just in total shock!!

Yes it's possible. Your womb can build a new lining at the same time as shedding the old one. Congrats!!

I think the dates are just off. It takes a couple weeks to grow an egg and ovulate. You can't ovulate on day 5. You may be much further along than you thought. That positive OPK might have been a positive HPT result. It IS common to still bleed each month even if you are in fact pregnant. You'll need a dating u/s.

Thanks for the replies everyone! They will for sure need to do an ultrasound to confirm dates because this is pretty crazy and confusing! Hopefully everything will be ok.

This thread was showing up as locked to me so if that was intentional let me know and I will relock it for you (I opened it)

How do you know you had a chemical pregnancy?? Did you have bleeding and assume the pregnancy was over? Could you have been pregnant the whole time or possibly lost a twin? I ask this because I was pregnant with twins once and got what I thought was AF but it turned out that I had lost one twin and the other was still there the whole time. I had a HUGE shock when I went in for an ultrasound thinking I was like 6 weeks pregnant and I was 12!!

Using an OPK as a pregnancy test is usually only possible after your first missed AF. So I suspect that if you're getting strong OPK which made you take a pregnancy test, this is from the original pregnancy that is still hanging on.

Atomic, it shouldn't be locked...thank you for unlocking it!

Thank you for your response. I am thinking I had to have ovulated on 8/24, the day after I got a pos opk. I had such strong ovulation pains on the 24th that I was doubled over my cart at Target for a minute or two! I wondered at that point if I could have ovulated from both ovaries because I felt the pain on both sides.

Then I started bleeding 8 days later for a week of Sept 1-7, bright red, totally identical to a normal period for me. I assumed it was a chemical bc I got a squinter of a line in the morning before I started bleeding, retested the next day just to make sure my levels were going down since I assumed I was miscarrying and it was a BFN for sure on Sept 2, the second day of my bleeding. But maybe it was just an evap line after all? Bleeding stopped on Sept 7, and I took an OPK on Sept 9 which was *almost* positive (wanted to start taking them early in the cycle just in case I ovulated early), and then kept getting positives from the 10th-13th. On the 13th I ended up taking 2 pregnancy tests which were positive. Today I did another frer with fmu and the line was very dark! I will see if I can post a pic of the 2 tests, the one from yesterday and the one from today but the line darkened up a lot. I'm having early preg symptoms now too.

I really think that it could have been twins and I lost one baby but somehow the 2nd one is still hanging out in there!! Just like what happened to you! I talked to the nurse at my OB's office this morning (I am an OB nurse too btw--mother and infant, so I know enough to know this is nuts!). She said this makes no sense and sent me for a beta. So I'm waiting for the results of that. I'm thinking maybe I'll get one of those digitals that tells you how many weeks you are...I'm curious as to what it would say. I'm just still a little scared that it could be a tubal pregnancy?? She said they may do an ultrasound based on my beta.

I will keep you posted!

Darkness of pregnancy tests is extremely unreliable, though. If it was super faint one day, and not visible the next day, that doesn't necessarily mean anything. I know most people think the line darkness means something and sometimes it does, but sometimes it doesn't because of variations in the amount of reagent, the urine concentration, etc..

I wish the Pee on a Stick site still existed, she explained all this so much better.

I know it probably means nothing, I just like seeing the line get darker!

I think when it gets darker like that, it does mean something! When we see people POAS very early and at different times during the day then stressing over the change in darkness, that is when it means very little but seeing a darker stick is always encouraging for me!

:agree: seeing a darker stick is never bad, but worrying because a line is a little lighter or even more so, worrying because it isn't getting darker, isn't warranted. The darkness of a pee stick on a day to day level is always at least in part contingent on the concentration in your urine and not necessarily HCG levels.

That's a super dark FRER from today! With both lines being equal it seems like you are 5 weeks pregnant. That's how my FRER looked at 21dpo, which is 5 weeks. A CB digital test with weeks predictor should say 3+ at this point. Good luck!

So an update on me...

I got a beta on Monday which was only 109. Wednesday it went up to only 119. Doctor is concerned for an ectopic pregnancy at this point, which was my hunch as well. I'm currently waiting at the lab to get my third beta drawn. Monday and Tuesday I was definitely feeling pregnant, peeing a lot and feeling nauseous. Since Weds AM those symptoms are all gone, all I'm feeling now is really really sore boobs :-( My frer lines are staying the same as that second test I posted.

Basically she wants the level to go down on its own so that I don't need to get methotrexate. If I get the methotrexate I have to wait to ttc another 3 months and it's a pretty intense drug that I would rather not have! There are some risks to the next baby if it is not out of my system before I conceive again. As long as the initial hcg is below 200, which mine was, there is a good chance that this will resolve on its own...I really hope it does!

Anyway, I will give you all an update later once my result comes back and my doctor and I decide what to do. This whole thing has been a nightmare and I'm just hoping for the best!

So it did end up being ectopic...betas continued to rise strangely and then at work yesterday, I almost passed out and my heart rate was in the 130s. One of my nurse friends took me straight to the ED where I had an ultrasound which showed it was most likely ectopic on the right side but they couldn't say for sure. My tubes are both fine. They did a d&c to look for fetal tissue in my uterus and there was nothing there so they determined that it was definitely ectopic and gave me the methotrexate. I finally got discharged from labor and delivery at about 7 am this morning. We will need to wait to try again after the methotrexate and I will take some extra folic acid after my hcg goes down to 0 because the med decreases folic acid levels. They assured me I can try again in December as long as my cycles return to normal. Thanks everyone for your positive thoughts!
