When I conceived DS 3 I was taking Women's One a Day (has cal-mag in it), Vitamin D, and both green tea and black tea every day. Also taking Tums for heartburn at least once a day and usu more. Eating garlic regularly and doing wheatgrass juice off and on when I could stand it.

With DS 4 I was taking the Women's One a Day, Vit. D, 4000 mcg of folic acid, 100 mg B6, a LOT of cal (I'd have to look it up but it was like 1200 a day plus diet), 250/300 mg magnesium, and DHA supps. Oh yeah and vitex.

Now I'm taking Women's One a Day, 1200 mcg of folic, DHA supps, and vitex, plus black tea every day and green tea a few times a week, occasionally a potassium when I feel like my blood pressure is high (3-4 times a week), and hoping for an oops, pref. a blue one!

Zinc is prob. more important for DH to take.

b12 is stored up in your body and is in ample supply in the blue diet so no need for you to take it, but you might want to have your husband take it if he won't eat the diet.

Vit E will be in the prenatal vitamin so I wouldn't worry about it. (actually zinc and B12 will prob. be in there too.)
The one thing I do think you should take is Vit. D (400 iu in addition to the 400 that will prob. be in your prenatal.). I know it is a traditional pink swaying supp but I think it's better for blue. The only reason I am not taking it now is because I've been taking it for several years and I'm worried because it can be stored up in the body, so I'm taking the summer off of taking it and just getting a lot of sunshine.

Gotcha!

I remember you saying that too much zinc is bad for DH. He is taking a daily multi vitamin that has 11mg in it. Is this enough? I also have a supp that is 50mg, but I think you said the two together were too much. How about the multi vitamin plus HALF the supp--so about 36mg a day? Still too much?

Wow. I find it so intriguing to see what everyone else is taking. Mine is very simple, not too much to add...

Prenatal
800 mcg folic acid (also 800 mcg in prenatal so that's 1600 total for the day)
99 mg potassium 1x day
1000 mg fish oil 1x day

Then I'm doing a fairly strict diet (low calcium, high potassium, high sodium, high protein) plus LOTS of lemon water.

Prenatal
Fish Oil
Folic Acid 1600mg
Vit D 1,000iu
B6-from O to AF for my short lp

DH
Men's multi
Fish oil
Zinc- half tab as he has some in his multi

We've got some l-arg sitting here that I'll probably give him too.

Personally, I would go with 20 or less.

Oh thank GOODNESS I have been looking for this study for MONTHS!!! I read it on a day when I had no printer ink and then couldn't ever find it again LOL.

Too much zinc can actually LOWER sperm motility and would prob. sway pink.

As can too much selenium so be careful with that one too.

Oy, my DH takes a multi-men's and then also a 30mg zinc....I hope that is not too much!

I took a bunch of supps:

Antioxidant Mix vitamin (has a bunch of stuff in it)
Co-Q10 (100mg)
Vit D (recommended daily, I think it's 300mg or so)
Royal Jelly capsule
Bee Pollen capsule
DHEA (75mg)
Vit E (400iui)
Fish Oil (1000mg)
Flaxseed Oil (1000mg)
EPO (1200mg)
Folic 800mg +B12 capsule
Prenatal Vitamin with DHA in it
Zinc (30mg)
Spirulina

DH takes the same, minus the DHEA and EPO, and he also does L-Arg/L-Cart supplement. Actually, I didn't take the DHEA after my bfn last month, so I didn't take it this past AF-O. But I did take it for 3 months straight after my May m/c.

So are you NTNP right now?????

Hobbermittens

So what is Maca, exactly?

And what is the deal with flaxseed oil, anyway? I thought I read that you couldn't mix it with something(did we ever fihure that out?) and I read somewhere else that flax seeds/meal sway girl. Am I all mixed up?

Let's just say I am not being super duper careful...we aren't actively trying and I'm not ovulating regularly because I'm BFing still. We're still using BC but it's not a super reliable BC, plus there have been several times when we were away and I forgot my BC and we chanced it and then a few times we chanced it just for fun. DH seems a little more receptive to it than he was and has been talking about boy names (!)

Flava, I have to run now to get my son's eyeglasses but I am going to look into it a little more and find some links. My gut instinct is that EPO and fish oil (taken both together) are better than flaxseed because I rem. there being some ingredient in it that may sway pink, too.

Ok, the deal with flaxseed and why it's (for now until we have more info) not best for TTC blue is because it contains lignans, which are superpowerful phytoestrogens (even better than soy). On some other sites, they claim that phytoestrogens are good for TTC blue because they think that phytoestrogens act like estrogens in the body and in effect, raise your estrogen. But in reality, phytoestrogens are not bioidentical to your body's estrogen and they can actually compete with your body's production and use of estrogen. Flaxseed has been shown to reduce risks of estrogen-fueled cancers and this seems to indicate that it is actually blocking estrogen rather than increasing it.

Also, the Linus Pauling Institute (the absolute BEST resource for research on vitamins) does not advise using flaxseed oil when you are TTC. http://lpi.oregonstate.edu/infocenter/phytochemicals/lignans/ Until we know more, I don't think anyone should be taking flaxseed oil while TTC. Also, anyone who is breastfeeding should not take flaxseed oil (EPO and fish oil are both ok while breastfeeding.)

It's MUCH better to go with EPO-fish oil for blue. They have the exact same benefits (and more so.)

You know, bec, I don't think I would risk it. I'm sorry, I feel really bad about that and I wish I had taken the time to really look into it before. The lignans bind with cholesterol and makes it leave your body, which lowers your testosterone. Here is a great explanation. http://bettedowdell.articlesbase.com/supplements-and-vitamins-articles/flaxseed-the-ticket-to-where-you-dont-want-to-go-889011.html

Thanks for being honest. Don't be sorry, it's not your fault at all. You can't be expected to know every single detail about everything (even though you do know an awful lot!). I would rather waste a few dollars than screw up our sway.
