View Full Version : Best bet for early gender testing?

We're military stationed in Japan so we have to wait a while before finding out the gender here. But we're visiting the states when I'm 10-13 weeks pregnant. What's my best bet to get an accurate gender reading that early? Thanks in advance!

You can do the new "Sneak Peek" blood test if you'll be stateside. It's under $100 and supposedly pretty accurate. I'm leaning towards trying it once I get a bfp.

If you can splurge get the harmony or similar nipt. Make sure it includes gender as well as the chromosome tests. Some have a box you check if you want the gender (panorama is what I did, and is as early at 9 weeks). I'm in the waiting phase!

The one I read about had to many bad reviews (I read about sneak peek brand) and apparently Amazon used to sell it but the reviews were terrible. You would think it would be ok though - is done basically like th pku heel test that they do when your baby is newborn. You prick your finger, and make sure fill the paper circles. It's not s terribly expensive test but it is looking for Y only, which means that ANY male contamination that might get in the test will result in a Y result, when it could be very well a girl. That uncertainty simply was not worth it to me. I never would have felt confident in the results and then likely would want to go out and spend more money on early ultrasounds. When my panorama comes back I KNOW it's right and won't second guess it :)

Those can be accurate but I would strongly recommend the Harmony test instead.

You can't put a price tag on peace of mind :)

The problem is we won't be transfering out insurance for our stay so I won't have a doctor to give the harmony test. Isn't that the only way? Is there a reliable test that doesn't involve a doctors visit possibly?

Hmm. I did have to get s doc to sign for panorama. I also paid for it myself (not covered by our provincial insurance, nor my private insurance). Google NIPT testing + your state/country, and see what comes up and read the process.
