So I've been on Metformin for a while now, and it does help with my weight loss.

However ! The side effects are craaaazzzzzyyyyy - my stomach issues are epic on this medication.
How are other Metformin ladies coping with the side effects, or did they go away and if so after how long)

Things I have tried :

Taking the meds with a full meal of protein and less fat
Reducing the dose
Taking the meds with carbs

None of the above makes a difference, so any tips would be awesome.

Oh no I'm so sorry - i'm hoping that some people will chime in with good tricks. I know several others who have had this same problem. Has your doc given you any tips??

Honestly for me nothing has helped and I've been on it for about 2 months. I've lost 9lbs in total which is nice but now I barely eat anything. All I really eat is fruit & natural yogurt. Sometimes chicken with some vegetables. Don't drink alcohol or eat any carbs!! X

The best fruit I've found is melon and strawberries. Apples and pears good too. Xx

Long time met user here- take it in the middle of a meal. It helps if the meal has protein and fewer carbs. What's your dosage? Building up to the full dose over the course of a few weeks helps as well. Don't give up on it because the side effects will subside.
ETA: I've taken it now for several years and while the first few months can be tough- especially if you don't gradually increase the dose over time, I can take it now with just a few carbs (crackers) and have no nausea. Stick with it. It's a great drug. It has many many benefits for PCO.

I have totally given up alcohol now, as I found it made me feel so sick...even just 1 glass with a met meal, and I was like ewwww

Hi,
I am pregnant and still on metformin. I am at 1500 daily. I still have good days and bad. It does start off with bad stomach pains and diarrhea. The pains get better but the diarrhea will stay. On my worst days i will take some immodium. I also try to avoid foods that affected me before the metformin because it can become severe on it. Hang in there ! It does help with the weight loss and becoming pregnant. I became pregnant on moderate to severe PCO on my third months use. Good Luck :)

I conceived my DS using Metformin to induce ovulation. I take 2000mg. I wasn't swaying per se. I did eat a low fat diet because I knew that swayed pink. I've always been a vegetarian but I started eating fish I preparation for pregnancy. I was taking a ton of vitamins at the time. I took prenatals as well as being treated for low D and low b12. Low B12 is common among Veggies. Low D because my pasty self can't get much sun without baking in the Florida sun. We only had one attempt - 5 Days before O. It had to be then though because that was the only attempt and I was charting. It was clear when I O'd. I kept the chart that said my chance of conception that cycle was "low". Ha! I took Met throughout my pregnancy. My RE said it would prevent miscarriage in the first 12 weeks and counteract the tendency that many obese women have of IUGR. My son was early, very very early but he was large for his gestational age.

I find the smaller doses broken up over the course of the day easier to handle. I take two 500 in the morning or afternoon (I don't eat breakfast often) and two in the evening. It takes a long time to see the real benefits (6 months - 1 year). Over time though, you'll find it easier to lose weight and the PCO symptoms slowly subside. After a year, most women don't even have cysts.

That's so good to hear.
I am TTC Pink, but to be honest I wouldn't be heartbroken if we went Blue :)
Especially now there are so many adorable baby boys clothes in stores

I have to say my cycles are already improved from the Met, and my weight loss is standing at 17lbs. It has plateued now, so I am going to add daily cardio in.

The boy clothes now are SOOO cute! I was in the store the other day (I have a new nephew on the way) and I actually thought the boy stuff was much cuter than the girl stuff. The girl stuff was a little bit racy for my taste. My husband called them "stripper clothes". :)

That is so funny. We did the exact same thing (have a new nephew !), and even H&M had adorable boys stuff.
The girls stuff was really odd, and especially for the winter season.

ROFL!! I got a robe too! Pink with grey spots - almost like leopard print! The funniest thing I've ever seen. And a cook book. Not reading anything into it. He tried I guess lol

:agree: mine has large white stars and makes me feel that I'm due at Hogwarts at any moment (and I already HAD a robe! He was like, no, you don't have a robe, and then he was like, "oh yeah".) He also got me a knife sharpener. SMH!!

What is it with men and gifts, they rarely seem to get it right lol.
My sister in law received a vacuum cleaner for her last birthday.
So in return for Christmas she purchased him a wheelie bin. Fairs fair :)
