Hayfever relief during pregnancy

Does anyone has any suggestions for hayfever relief during pregnancy? The dry summer heat hear in Aus has brought on my hayfever and with the all day nausea I'm feeling pretty rotton. I keep sneezing and my sinuses are driving me mad.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

I took zyrtec off and on. I felt like it lasted longer in pregnancy then it did normally so I ended up only having it a couple times a week

Polaramine I took for that reason with one of my boys and it's safe but used to make me very sleepy.

Thank you Atomic and 3boys531. I went to the chemist and they said Polaramine was safe in the first and second trimesters but not the third. I took one then an hour later I felt so groggy I had to lie down.

I was pretty desperate for relief and would only take something if I really needed it.

:agree: That's why I did Zyrtec instead. I'm tired enough anyway when preggo and the older generation antihistamines are just AWFUL for drowziness. It's Class B and has been around long enough now that most sources consider it as safe as polarmine/diphenhydramine. A lot of the older info on the web is still floating around from 20 years ago when Zyrtec was new (meaning that it hadn't been studied enough and thus polarmine is better), but 20 years is plenty of time for something to be uncovered.

Thanks Atomic! I'll definitely try the Zyrtec next time. It was such an awful feeling. :(

Nettle tea,safe in prego, but doesn't work instantly like zyrtec. Those never even last the 24 hours that your only allowed to take one so I find minimizing exposure the best
Windows shut
Wash bedding/ wet dust often
Shower nightly so you don't go to bed w it
Check pollen counts daily to make sure not to do any yard work on high days
Air purifier

Zyrtec lasts 21 hours, not 24. I felt like it worked a little longer than normal in pregnancy but maybe that was just me.

Zyrtec always felt like it lasted maybe 10 hours. Def. Not 21 but again everyone is different and react to allergens differently. I'm in VA and we are known for our high allergens. Winter is the only relief here :)

I can't tell what your personal experience was, I am saying the medication lasts 21 hours according to the company's info and scientific study so if a person was expecting it to last a full 24 they would be disappointed. If it lasts 10 hours for you I believe you, just that is what the company claims the lifespan of the medication is.
