View Full Version : Surprise BFP and wondering what my diets sways towards

Hello everyone!
Well, I already have three gorgeous DS's. My last one was a failed sway and our last planned baby. He is just amazing btw!
DH and I have a had a recent 'accident' and I have had a faint bfp as a result (gulp!). I haven't even told him yet as he Im not sure how he will react!
I have been having increased gender desire for a girl since I found out DS2 was a boy. Hence why we went for a third (and final baby!). I swayed with this site, but it didn't work for us. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely adore my boys and am definitely a 'boy' Mum and could have 20x boys and certainly would never be disappointed, but nothing will change the desire for a girl.
So, I would like to know, in your opinions, whether I might have swayed boy or girl (without realising!). Here are the facts:
- DH & I have made a switch away from cows milk (trying out both almond and soya milk) in hot drinks and the odd bowl of cereal
- I have been vegetarian since aged 5yrs (although it made no difference when conceiving my 3x DS) and DH eats a mostly meat free diet too.
- I always skip breakfast but always start the day with a cup of tea and maybe a hot chocolate
- I don't usually eat a lot for lunch but usually not very healthy food ie chocolate bar or mini roll or apple (mostly snacky type food)
- Dinner for both DH and I mostly consists of homemade vegetable soup with bread and butter
- Neither DH and I regularly exercise
- We are always tired from work and running around after the little ones and I work 2x late evenings per week
- On the night of BD we had been on a rare night out for Valentines. I did have extra ewcm in the days leading up to this but didn't notice it particularly present this day.
- We went to a vegetarian meal and had a full 3x course meal. I got quite drunk on 3x glasses of rose wine (DH had a beer as was driving)
- We got home and I had a glad of red wine
- We went to bed and dtd - DH pulled out (as normal) but one thing lead to another and it slipped back in (embarrased face!)
- In the middle of the night I woke up and was very sick (from too much wine!)
I honestly don't feel that DH and I can possibly conceive a girl (all his family are boys and we have three!), but it would still be interesting to know your thoughts.
I very much appreciate you reading and replying so thanks in advance!

Congrats and pink dust!
How different was your recent diet from your diet when you conceived your first 2 boys? What did you do to sway for DS3? Did DH end up ejaculating inside you or did he come a 2nd time outside you again or what?
It sounds like you don't eat nearly enough! Do you snack a lot?

Hi Maiden!
Thanks so much for replying :)
My diet is pretty bad in that I would rather munch on naughty snacks like Jaffa cakes and Cadbury mini rolls and things like that that have a decent lunch or breakfast so I snack on those things rather than a proper meal - until my evening meal, which is usually a big bowl of veg soup. So I may not eat loads but Im sure I get the calories! On the weekends we will have something different more home cooked meal (usually with meat substitute) I guess I eat a bit less now than when I had DS 1 & 2. With DS1 it was very protein rich with lots of cheese, pasta, milk, and take-aways!!! With DS2 it would have definitely been cereal heavy (I used to love cereal for breakfast) and lots of big home cooked meals (all vegetarian or with meat substitute).
I did the LE diet for 3months (with one attempt at +opk) when swaying for DS3 but I didn't realise that tea and hot choc in the morning was equivalent to a meal anyway! Plus, I tried to do the exercise but with my routine at the time I could only manage it 3x per week, so I think I probably ended up swaying blue instead!
So on the night of BD, he pulled out to ejaculate then once he was finished we kind of carried on with the mood and it went back in (Im cringing writing this lol!), so it was only the semen that was existing on/in his penis after he ejactulated. He did not ejaculate twice. I know they say it only takes one sperm, but I can't believe that its happened!

The minimal sperm, one attempt and switch to almond/soy milk from cow's sound like your biggest pink sway factors. Given that you have 3 boys, 1 from a pink sway, I would guess you will have another boy but you do always have a chance. Several moms of 3 boys with the 3rd boy being a failed pink sway got pregnant accidentally and had a daughter. You could end up pleasantly surprised! I do think diet & exercise are the biggest sway factors though, so I wouldn't get my hopes up.
I do think the exercise you did when swaying probably swayed blue for you and having tea & hot choc daily did as well. I think there were other factors too, most beyond your control, that 'innately' sway blue for you strongly. Your DH may be a factor as well.
No reason to be embarrassed about the oops! Many pregnancies are unplanned including 5 of my 6 pregnancies. I was just curious as to the mechanics, as I know a pink swayer hoping to conceive despite her DH's pulling out. Unfortunately I don't think her DH will do what yours did.

Hahaha, yes please send your failed pull out dust to me!!! I'm assuming you're thinking of me Maiden! A few times, DH has pulled out, ejaculated, and went back in but still no pregnancy after a year and a half!
FX for you JenB17!!! May I ask how old you are? I will be 35 in June and have 2 boys (plus 1 miscarriage 16 months ago). Atomic always says that a lot of oopsies are girls, so I think you have a good chance, especially since you weren't focused on swaying. The only thing that gives me pause is drinking tea daily. I got my 2 boys drinking white or green tea daily. What kind were you drinking? Were you drinking coffee daily as well? What about alcohol? Was that only on the day of the oops or do you drink alcohol regularly as well?

Hi Jen! Sounds like you're in with a good chance of pink. Dairy, I'm sure, was one of my biggest blue factors. I ditched it when ds3 (my failed sway!) was born as he has CMPA, plus a few other things changed and have ended up with an oopsie girl due in June! Can't wait until you find out 😀 I didn't exercise either, btw.
Three beautiful boys and my longed-for DD due in June 2016!

Often these oops babies are girls so I'd say you have a great chance at pink!!! One attempt (or really half an attempt) also sways girl ;-)

Yes I was thinking of you essnce! Has your DH ever gone back in during your fertile period? Does he wipe off before going back? It sounds like he doesn't do it very often/often enough. :(

Yes he has. We pretty much only dtd during my fertile period! It must be a pheromone thing for him or something because I never tell him where I'm at in my cycle. But if you look at my charts there's always dtd in the week leading up till O then nothing after! He always wipes off on his boxers after. But I can think of at least 4 cycles that he's gone back in after ejaculating. All during my fertile period. The last time being this past cycle. AF was right on time though. If I was 10 years younger I'm sure I would have gotten a BFP by now. Both my boys were oopsies.

Wowwee, you got pregnant from the "remnants" of a pull out?! That IS a surprise!
Honestly, everything sounds pretty pink to me -- and for the record, I had an (unintentional) LE diet for ages, including the day I conceived... I looked back in my MyFitnessPal diary, and the day before was a concert where I went HE... especially on alcohol, haha!
Looks like the alcohol may work in your favor here in particular!
I'm not sure I agree with maidentomother's assessment that because you've had boys, you're more likely to have a boy here. Seems a little defeating!

Thanks all for your input - I really appreciate you all taking the time to respond.
Essnce - To answer your questions: I always drink English breakfast tea (with milk and recently soy or almond milk) and usually a Cadbury highlights (or low fat) hot chocolate topped up with soy milk. I probably drink 2-3 cups a day of tea and try to limit hot choc to one cup. I don't drink coffee at all. Also, I am 31yrs and DH is 38yrs. DH and I aren't big drinkers at all and I can easily go a month without any alcohol, but I decided to indulge as we went out for Valentines night and the in-laws were looking after my boys. I wish you all best in your baby journey!
Dreamofpink - wow what an awesome story - Im so pleased for you. My gender desire (not to be confused with disappointment of my boys) has gotten worse with each boy as it has mad me crave that girl more as the chance of a daughter gets further and further away. And now I can't help but feel I want a daughter 'too much', that I wont get her :( With DS3 I was very happy at the thought of a boy, but I really really really really wanted the baby to be pink (obviously wouldn't change him for the world), but after 3x blue I cant help but feel a bit sorry for myself that 'Im not that lucky' - so maybe I need to be more positive!!!
Babygirlquest - Thank you so much for your reply - Can you believe that this 'accident' could be more of a pink sway than when I spent 3-4months on LE diet and actually swaying pink for DS3!!!
Throwaway_panther - I know - its crazy and I cant quite believe it myself. I have just broken the news to DH and he has been great about it - phew!! A Valentines baby lol!!!
Thank you all x

Yes! I think it could be more influential not trying as such. I tried to sway too hard 3 years ago & got ds3.

Throwawaypanther, I think that bc of innate swaying factors and due to how she got DS3. Also statistics and my own observations. But I very much hope I am wrong! I do tend to err on the side of caution bc I prefer not to get people's hopes up. That part is all on me.
essnce, I'm so happy to hear that. I think it's probably just a matter of time for you. I also wish I still had my insane youthful fertility, sigh. I've always believed that at least some if not most men can tell when women are fertile. Not necessarily due to pheromones (as according to research only women can detect them), but maybe other physical cues. I HAD noticed that you tend to BD when fertile. Very interesting!

OH my Jen!!! So excited for you!
I personally prefer not to go over sways that are done deals because I feel like they only contribute to false hope or false despair. You had a lot of pink friendly stuff working for you though and you always have a chance of a girl!!
FX and TX and tons of pink dust headed your way.

Thank you Atomic! I appreciate your dust lol!
Maiden - I can totally understand your point. Lets be honest, I had two boys 'naturally' and then tried to sway but still had a boy. I haven't changed an awful lot of my lifestyle so it would make perfect sense to have another boy. I honestly don't think DH and I have it in us to make a girl, but for now, I can hope just a teeny tiny bit ;) xx

Always a chance and I think the alcohol and oopsie factor might lean a little pink! But if it is another boy, I have to say, a four boy family is pretty amazing in my not so humble opinion :bluecheer: . My two oldest are best buddies and the two youngest are really close too.

Congrats!
I happened upon this thread because I'm bored and I miss being on here. I first found the site with pregnancy #2 as I was really hoping for a boy and had planned on swaying but never got the chance- he came earlier than planned. He was a bizarre oops because he was at least 5 day old sperm...I thought for sure he would be a she. I'm pregnant again but this time was seriously unplanned- we had been using the calendar method AND pulling out. So after evaluating my calendar we got pregnant by having sex ONE TIME 1 day before ovulation and he pulled out. I had never heard that oopses tend to be girls or less sperm typically equals a higher likelihood of a girl. Is that how it works?

February 28th, 2016, 07:59 AM
Congrats lala22! Will you be finding out what you are having this time?
Yes, anything the reduces your fertility (ie not being in the best 'maternal' health, or low sperm count etc) helps to sway pink. So, often, oopsie or pull-out babies are pink as there was a lower chance of getting pregnant. Not in al cases of course! Does that make sense?
Beau82 - thank you so much. As much as I am desperate for a little girl, a family with 4x boys would be fab too. I certainly know where I stand and what to expect with boys! I appreciate the reassurance and think its the most likely outcome for us anyway :)
Thank you Babygirlquest - that's really nice of you to say :) almost 18months on, DS3 isn't as innocent looking as this anymore lol!!

Less sperm = more girls was apparently some old theory I had never heard of before but coincidentally also came up with after reviewing 10 zilllion studies. Yes, I do think there's something to it, no guarantee of course but everything that lowers sperm health, count and quality (even wildly different things like being a fighter pilot and being on certain medications) seem to be affiliated with more daughters conceived. Since we now know one attempt also sways pink, I am a little less sold on this idea than I used to be and wonder if it may have something to do with the one attempt. Not enough data to know for sure though.
Oopsies also tend to be girls (now this I don't have a study to prove, but just anecdotally) I believe because of a combo of the less sperm/one attempt idea but also because since those of us who make 2-3-4 or more boys may be more tightly wound (and this may not be you, lala) and we get really worked up over TTC, a sneak attack may help us with the personality issues that seem to play into gender ratio.

I wanted to jump in and say congrats!! I'm pregnant from a pull out and I just try to stay positive and go with the flow. DH and I had pretty much decided we were done and then this happened so I just believe it was meant to be!
I also believe in sneak attack sways. I couldn't have been more Martha with boy #3. Boy #4 was also an oopsie...but he was supposed to pull out and didn't. This time I know he at least did! I've seen lots of pull out girls so fingers crossed!!
Congrats again!

JenB17, I was coming on to post the same!! Total surprise BFP today!!i oh my was not expecting it at all and we are both shocked!! I had planned on swaying pink March/April/May and ttc oink from June so hadn't started the diet!! Have been skipping breakfast and cutting down on meat but have been exercising three times a week ( bootcamp ). Really would love a sister for DD but feel I have been swaying blue. I did a hardcore say for DD and planned to do the same sway!
Damn you valentines night and sexy lingerie

Thanks ladies for the info..I dont know the ins and outs of gender planning as I never got to it..sounds like a few of us have had recent surprises! I'm still digesting the information. Two was a lot to handle for me and a not even 2 year old and newborn sounds overwhelming especially with work but alas people do it all of the time and I'll adjust.
Jenb I thought about being surprised but hubby won't go for it and if he knows I know. Haha. So am looking forward to finding out. My gut says girl so far but I've been wrong every time. Haha

I do want to shed some (rather gross) light on the pullout issue. Apologies for TMI!
My husband and I have used pullout + avoiding fertile window for a long time successfully as birth control and we have had an experience where sometimes he will have a fair amount come out without actually having an orgasm. He says it is something to do with the pulling out, like it starts to happen and then he kinda panics and stops and/or pulls out, and the O stops in its tracks but some teeny Elvises leave the building anyway. I have actually seen it happen and it would 100% for sure be enough to get someone pregnant. He can O right after that and then make a second batch (somewhere he is dying of embarrassment right now without knowing why!!) He says it doesn't really feel like anything other than trying to not have an orgasm, and if he wouldn't have been relatively expert at pulling out, he could be tricked by it in the heat of the moment. I suspect that many times when people are getting pregnant from pullout it may be this phenomenon going on and he may not realize it even happened, he could still pull out and O right after it happened without ever even knowing that he had shot a load in there if that makes sense. :p

Lol. That all makes sense. Only hubby is super sure of his pull out skills and we've used it for years with success too. I don't know..it could be a million different things including human error. I wish I knew. Haha

Actually, after re reading your message you triggered a memory of him almost having an orgasm and saying the " OK don't move " comment. I don't recollect when it happened exactly but could have been close to ov. So we will go ahead and blame this oops on him. Lol
My husband too is probably dying of embarrassment without knowing why.

Now that DH and I are on a 2-4 dtd regular pattern this has happened a few times now (but he has successfully pulled out). He said, especially when we pull out, that he comes in waves (he would die knowing I was typing this)... partially because he is holding back too. This is true with DD#2, we were both drinking, I was more under the influence than he, and that may have had an effect!

YES exactly, that's exactly the type of situation. He pulls out and nobody even DOES anything and then a little blurp comes out. After this subject kept coming up on here I interrogated him all about it and he says it doesn't feel like an O and then he can go onto have an actual O within like 30 seconds (which he couldn't if it had been a real one of course).
