View Full Version : Is it better to exercise before a meal?

I'll be doing cardio on my lunch break and eating at my desk once I go back to work at the end of my mat leave. If I'm skipping breakfast and lunch is my first meal of the day, is it better to do my cardio before I eat or after (or does it make any difference)?
Since I only have an hour, I'll probably only spend 45 minutes jogging or biking and the other 15 will be lost in walking to the gym, showering, changing clothes, etc. Will this really hurt my sway? If needed I could come in early to work or stay late to take a longer lunch but I'd rather not since that's time I don't get to see my kids.

I don't eat until after 11am and I do my cardio 1st thing In the morning!
There is an exercise tread running where we come on to keep each other motivated if you would like to join us. It's sticked at the top of ttc girl section.
Not sure on actual timings, some people say to do no less than 60min x6days a week, some say they have got girls from just taking a walk each day.
ID say it's hasn't got to be too strenours, don't want to raise your testostrone, just enough to keep your heart rate elevated for 60mins. But in the end the choice is yours.xxxx

It doesn't matter. I would just prefer that you eat either before or after, not during and not both. :)
As long as you're moving that remaining 15 min. I think it's fine.

Thanks for your input, ladies! Beautifulrainbow, thanks for letting me know about the group. I haven't actually started my sway yet, I'm just doing my over-planning now so hopefully I won't have as much to worry about later. I will have to join you once I've begun. :-)

If all other factors are equal, exercise before you eat is ideal.
I'd be quite worried that under 60min would sway blue. I don't think showering & changing are adequate. Is there any way you could do 55min? Still not ideal but a lot better than 45min.

Even if you just walk briskly for a bit longer that may help.

Ok, I can take a longer lunch to reach 60min and stay a bit later to make up the time. Thanks Maiden and Atomic.
