View Full Version : Doubting my sway
Aus

I am 8 weeks pregnant and will be doing the NIPS bloodtest at 10weeks to find out the sex. I have been thinking a lot about my sway and am really starting to get some anxiety. I know that I did perfect attempts. Every 2nd day from AF and then 3 attempts at +OPK. What I am worried about is my diet. I gained weight and tried to eat every few hours and always ate breakfast and a snack before bed BUT I cannot remember if had a carb and a protein together at every snack and meal.
How crucial is this to a boy sway? Do you think frequency and attempts is more important than diet?
Is there anyone who successfully swayed boy without a perfect boy diet?
Needing some reassurance.

I'm 11 weeks and waiting on my results so I'm having that same anxiety. I try to think about the fact that while I lived an LE lifestyle when I conceived both my girls, I was definitely not perfect. I'm sure all the boy moms weren't either. I think we have to have some luck on our side. I swayed for my dh so I've been a ball of stress hoping he gets his much desired boy. Good luck!!

I didn't purposely sway with any of my boys but just to give you some reassurance, I certainly didn't have a carb and protein with every single meal when I conceived them. But I definitely ate breakfast every day and snacked all day (always a snack on my way to bed too!). Sounds like you had a great boy frequency going.
Try not to stress! Most of us boy moms got boys without thinking one iota about how many grams of protein we were eating or what types of carbs we had.

While I haven't had a boy yet, I can relate to your anxiety and stress AND I've maybe read almost every post on this forum... ha.
From what I've gathered, it's much easier to be "not perfect" with an HE lifestyle and still get a boy, and I think the "eating breakfast" tends to trump the "carb and protein" at every snack in terms of importance (which I say ONLY because there have been actual studies linking breakfast to gender frequency). That all being said, even if THOSE aren't perfect, I know it's an overall lifestyle.
Plus, the rates for getting blue are slightly higher (implying more margin of error in HE diet) here than girls. Additionally, it generally only needs 6 weeks of an HE diet for the effects of it to start influencing gender -- versus the LE diet, which tends to be needed longer. It needing to be longer would, logically, infer that short slip ups of even a few weeks wouldn't necessarily negate the HE diet.
And thirdly: I have seen SO many moms get boys with erratic exercise and eating habits, junk food, etc. All sorts of things that still ended up with boys.

Don't compare boy moms who conceive them without effort, to us who conceive girls. I don't know what it is that determines the gender of the baby, but I also had, without knowing at that time, perfect girl lifestyle with both my girls and this time I was confident with all the changes I made, I would have my boy this time... I guess someone had other plans.....

I conceived a girl and two boys, and the critical differences for me was that the girl was unplanned (so wasn't stressing over conceiving), she was a one hit wonder, and I was dieting so I felt hungry (low blood sugar) a lot. With my boys my diet was largely protein based, I grazed a lot, and we DTD a lot. I know that a lot of my meals were protein only, so not a carb on my plate. So try not to stress, it sounds like you've done a pretty good sway!
I'm in the same boat as you, I swayed girl and I'm only 4 weeks pregnant but I'm starting to stress that I wasn't as strict as I should have been etc. What can we do?! It's out of our hands now. Xx

When I made the diets I was only trying to OPTIMIZE chances. Trust me, both I and virtually ALL other boy moms did not have protein and carbs at every meal and snack. We had days when we missed meals or snacks. The diet is just supposed to be the best of the best chance in a short time.
I do think diet is most important but you did fine on diet!!! :)

Thanks Everyone! It feels like such a long wait to find out what we are having. I feel it's another girl, something makes me feel that I cannot conceive a boy. We will see. 1 more week till the blood test and then 3-5 day wait for the results. Of course the most important thing that I am hoping for is good results for the genetic diseases.

Aus (I'm assuming you're from Australia) which blood test are you getting? I'm in Melbourne and I've done a bit of research and the Percept NIPT looks like the best one with the quickest results.

My results should be in this week and I'm freaking out!! I want a boy for my dh so bad as we have two girls. He will be so heartbroken if he doesn't get his son and this is our last for sure. I used my swaying to convince him to try for one more so although he knows it could be a girl, I think he's hopeful it's a boy. I really don't feel like I can conceive a boy either but I guess it's possible. I took clomid so I'm really nervous. My diet, supplements, and exercise were pretty solid so I'm hoping that will overpower it. Of course I cheated, especially at Christmas time when I had a cp. I od'd on junk food and caffeinated coffee!!! Lol

Well I got the results today and it is a girl. I really thought this sway would work. Obviously I am not destined to have a boy. I am pretty upset and finding it a little hard today to be excited about the pregnancy. I just know if I go for a third it will be another girl and the odds are against me. Just pretty upset because this may have been my last shot as two might be it for me.

I just found out I'm having my third girl! It's now been one week since I found out and I'm finally feeling better. The first week, I randomly cried and would wake up thinking about it in the middle of the night. I didn't want to be pregnant anymore and was basically angry with the world.
I am starting to get excited about the baby now and my husband (who I swayed for) is being cool about it. I know how you feel and it's okay to have all of these emotions. We know when we meet our babies, we'll love them more than anything but we'll mourn the son we won't have. I don't think there's anything wrong with that. When I first found out, the last thing I wanted to think about were names or anything. Now thinking about names is getting me excited. I'm sorry you heard girl. I've definitely been there.

Just to say thinking of you both, I know exactly how you feel it does get easier with time and before you know it you will be so consumed with everything you will be fine. I struggled more with my third as I was so sure and convinced myself the sway had worked, even though if I'm honest it was a 80/20 effort. I went through a period of saying never again but yet only 2 years later to I'm back again to try again! I wish you well, little girls are lovely xxx

Reflecting on this hours later I am still upset. It is a strange feeling, almost like i feel like a bit of a failure not being able to conceive a boy. I know that sounds stupid.
I think the more I think about it that the whole thing is purely luck. I don't really believe swaying works, I think it is just the luck of the draw. Some people just have both sexes and some just get one sex.

I'm sorry it didn't work out, Aus.
You should not feel like a failure for not conceiving a boy. I assure you if you or anyone were to "Duggar it out" then you'd have one. There is definitely an element of luck involved and it is not a SMALL element either. The reason we sway is not to get a guarantee, it's to hopefully make it happen sooner without having to Duggar it out, yk?? If it was easy and guaranteed then the whole human race would have died out a long time ago.
I know this isn't what you're wanting to hear right now but I do have to mention this for others reading the thread that it is not luck because we have the results to show that it isn't luck. If it was 50-50 every time, then we would have 50-50 results. It does work, it's unfortunately not a guarantee, though.

Hi atomic, thank you for your message. I understand what you mean by duggar it out. Lol unfortunately I don't want that many kids. But I also do know some people who had 5 girls and another who had 4 boys.
If I was to ever try again what could I do to change my sway?

I had 4 boys and then a girl, so I know that it's possible even with these long runs. :)
I agree the whole point is that we don't HAVE to Duggar it out. That's why we sway, it's just not a guarantee. It's like rolling dice, even if we have 5 of 6 of the faces painted blue it is still possible for the pink one to come up. It doesn't even mean we have to do anything different, because it may have been a "bad luck" thing and not a "what did I do wrong" thing. Even the best sways make opposites, it's just the nature of the randomness of gender ratio that does that. If it was possible to get 100% with swaying the human race would have died out a long time ago or there would be countries or isolated tribes where the gender ratio is really skewed.
I have my essay on swaying opposites here - http://genderdreaming.com/forum/gender-swaying-general-discussion/18466-when-sways-attack.html

Hi Atomic, great essay. Loved reading it. I saw you mentioned Ds4 was a failed sway and then you had dd. That is great!
A few things I took from that essay is that I would like to try some different thinks next time.
Diet-
Cereal for breakfast instead of toast.
Supplements-
I was on Elevit and Nordic prenatal dha. Do you think next time I should try the one a day multivitamin that you mentioned in another post recently?
Also should I drop the dha and bring in a pro biotic?
Do you think I should try l-arginine? And should my husband take it too?
Are there any other supplements myself or my husband should try? Should I be taking a seperate vitamin d and folate to what is in the one a day multi vitamin?
Lube-
The other thing that I used with both my dd's is preseed. I was thinking to maybe not use that next time just for an opposite.
Exercise-
And I might try and increase the weights next time too.
Attempts- I did every second day from AF which my current dd. I was thinking of trying just 3 attempts after +opk rather than all the attempts after AF too.
Please let me know what you think of these changes. Thanks!

I had no gender preference with my first two sons (I actually wanted a boy for my first and was over the moon to have him). They were actually both cutoffs, not intentionally. My 3rd was a Shettles cutoff attempt. 4th was when I was first starting learning about swaying and did a lot of stuff the IG way still.

Thanks so much for your patience.
Breakfast - It's important to have protein and carbs at breakfast so if you were just eating toast then yes def. something to improve on.
Elevit and Nordic are both good supps. Those are fine to continue.
Probiotic does NOT replace DHA. They are totally different things. You can continue Nordic and ADD a probiotic as well.
I do not think you should take L-arg. We saw bad results with that for women. DH can take it and also carnitine if he didn't try that this time.
I want you guys on Vit D 1000IU both you and DH. There is less than that in Elevit so you'd need to add some extra in.
Folate to 2000 mcg a day.
Did hubby use a men's multi?? Does he smoke?

Thanks so much Atomic for your response.
Hubby was not a multivitamin, which do you recommend?
My husband is not a smoker. He likes to exercise. What should he be doing cardio or weights?
And regarding breakfast which cereal do you recommend?
Thanks!!

I like Men's ONe a Day over 50 plus Vit. D up to 1000 IU or so.
Biking and jogging may sway pink, he's fine to continue for now but he may want to back off 6-8 weeks before attempt. WEights are also good for him.
Whatever you like in terms of cereal. I've been living on this stuff lately and I toss in an extra 1/4 c walnuts to make it more protein dense. Hi Atomic - I've bumped this once...trying to get your opinion/view of TTC boy when DH is over 40. Have you had much success/worse results for those TTC boy? My DH would be 42 or 43 and I would be 36 or 37. Do you think that the psychology today study would be the percent we should consider - around 33% chance? Or do you think it's higher than that? Thank you so much!

oh boo I'm sorry it didn't go our way.
You always have a chance of a boy even at older ages and we've had people well on into their 40's getting boys.
The thing with swaying, especially with BLUE swaying, is you may not need to even change anything. It may have just been bad luck and things will fall your way the next time. Give me a day to dig up your support thread and reread it and get back to you.
