View Full Version : BD pattern for low low count? Daily, every other day, longer abstinence?

I'm about to try AGAIN....on CD10....what do you think I can do to maximize my chances at a baby here. Would love to sway blue, but think I've got to not worry about that anymore. As most everyone knows now, my DH has a devastatingly low count from his SA, but oddly he's gotten me pregnant (m/c's, but still) twice this year already. We dtd every day then. Should I try every day again or every other day, or dtd tonight and then wait till ov day and try? Anyone have any advice?

With IVF, they have our DH abstain 3-4 days for "best results".

Did you see this one Lola?

I would maybe consider trying for around a 3 day abstinence prior to O for optimum starting numbers but then DTD at least a couple of times at or just before O to pool the numbers at the crucial time.

Lola- Please know that you or anyone else may post a question for Dr Potter if you want. It's not just for HT!

I know you are probably familiar with Deanna's plan, but here it is just in case http://www.pregnancyloss.info/sperm_meets_egg_plan.htm
My only concern is that Deanna's plan sways pink :worry: but maybe the diet can counteract that? I would like to hear others opinion/ experiences? on that.

I think general advices for low sperm count is to BD every other day but I'm not sure when is the best time to start  You know, wait for +OPK or start a bit before?

I forgot who wrote ( and where - I have such a precise memory  ) but BDing every 36 hours might be a better option then 48 in order not to miss the eggie.

And most important - if you can believe it, you can achieve it! :luck:

Hey everyone! Thanks for posting and giving me your advice. We dtd on CD7, CD10, and will on CD13 (when I probably will ovulate) so that will be a 3 day abstinence in between. We'll see how it works! ZB, thanks for the encouraging words...I am clinging to the hope that it may happen, so trying to believe!

Really hope it works for you. I know how frustrating it can be ttc for so long. We took about 15 months ttc dc2. It is hard work but it WILL work. Good luck

Zivic, I do remember reading that too that bd every 36 hours more effective than 48.

Absolutely, we're all cheering you on! It's happened before for you guys and more than once so you really should believe!

Will you keep doing it every day if you don't O on cd13 or are you fairly reliable?

THANKS LADIES! So, I got a super + opk this morning (CD12), so I think we are on for an O tomorrow. It will have been 48 hours tonight, and I actually think we might go for it tonight and then again tomorrow night....I am just too worried that I will ovulate tomorrow morning and potentially miss the egg if we do it at 11pm tomorrow night (which is the first time we'll be able to!).

Lola, I just found this site. Read the part about the graph at the bottom:

"Sperm counts vary over time– Sperm counts and motility can vary a great deal from one week to the next. The chart at right shows sperm counts for one man taken every two weeks over two years. As you can see his sperm counts varied widely.

The dashed line represents twenty (20) million sperm per milliliter. This is often cited as the cutoff level for normal fertility. If he had only one or two semen analysis at any of several low points he would have believed that he was infertile. In fact, on average, his sperm counts are quite good."

This could be what happened to your DH!

Good find Hobber!

FWIW I think you're doing right Lola - and didn't you say your other conceptions with DH were after DTD daily?

I know I'm too late to answer this but I would DTD every two days so you could get 3 attempts in a fertile window while still keeping count in a decent zone. But I also think that what you did end up doing is also great and I am keeping you guys in my hopes and  that this is your month. I honestly think it's a very good sign that you've gotten pg before, even though those didn't work out.

PS - I totally agree with Hobber - SA are just a moment frozen in time and not a life sentence!

I've always heard every day or abstain for over 7 for girl, every 2-6 days for boy, so I think you did it right!

Hobber, thanks for that link! That actually gave me a glimmer of hope. Many people are telling me it must be a fluke since we got pg before, because everything I read about <2m count shows them having to do IVF/ICSI. Well, I'm 5dpo now, don't expect anything, but I feel like the O-3, O-1, O pattern worked in the past so we did that again. I will try straight every other day next month, though.

Thanks everyone for you 2 cents!

Are you going to try another SA?
