Hi, this is my first official post here after lurking for a while :)

My question is can you use shettles for a girl & try for 0+12 in the same cycle? I'm really paranoid i may have cut off a day too soon for swaying a girl.

I had 3 CBD flashing smileys friday (BD) Saturday (BD) and sunday (no BD) i got my peak solid smiley on Monday (yesterday) (i have been getting all negative OPK strips though) i had shooting ov pain/cramping/bloating/swollen lady parts/EWCM but not as much as i usually have - monday & today - BUT I'm only just getting a darker OPK strips today but they are still not as dark as they state they should be on the packet. (note i also used a full application of rephresh on friday midday & took a zytrtec at the same time) i am worried that maybe i should have BD on sunday - i just wasn't expecting to have another flashing smiley & didnt want to BD too close to OV, but according to OPK strips I'm only just beginning to ov now.

im so confused!

Should i try 0+12 also (and when do you know the best time to do this?)

You cans buti wouldn't do either. I would do one attempt at positive OPK and another attempt 4 days later. Timing doesn't sway.

If you're trying to sway girl, Atomic recommends having a single attempt in your fertile widow at pos OPK, or else BD every 4 days (which ends up being once in fertile window anyway, it's just easier to catch the egg if it's late, etc). When you BD every day or every couple days it sways blue.

Read the essay the trouble with timing. Shettles has been completely disproven. There are some women on here who still want to stick with some aspect of timing in combination with the methods here (single attempt with cutoff, single attempt at o+12, one attempt at o-4 and another at o+12), but at a certain point you might be setting yourself up for a lot of obsessive tracking and reduce your odds of getting pregnant for no good reason. You can't pinpoint the exact hour of ovulation without an ultrasound and the egg dies after 24 hours so most probably the women who think they conceived on o+12 ovulated later than they believed.

You can, but I don't recommend it at all. Timing doesn't work, it doesn't sway at all, and we have found thru experimentation that the only reason it ever appeared to work was because number of attempts works. For reasons we do not understand, having one attempt sways strongly pink and I really, really recomend against having attempts 2days in a row with timing like you did. Stick with one attempt, use timing if you want to, but don't do timing and add attempts. So, as a general rule I NEVER recommend cutoff + O+12, because you're adding attempts (especially if you O later than you think you will) for no benefit at all since timing doesn't even work anyway. If you want a cutoff, do a cutoff and stick that one attempt. Don't do O+12, since it doesn't work anyway and has about zippo odds of conception when done properly.

This is why I hate the CBD for timing. It does this to EVERYONE and this includes gobs and gobs of people who say that they had timing when in fact they're using timing when they really have no idea when they actually Oed.

All that having been said, if you DID O, having an attempt now (I think this is Wednesday for you, right??) will not harm anything (because egg is either fertilized or dead and gone) and your last BD is Saturday that means any sperm left from that round will likely be dead (esp. with the RepHresh and Zyrtec in the mix)

Most eggs barely live 12 hours. 24 hours is the longest lived egg ever, in theory.

Wow, I didn't know that. So o+12 is REALLY impossible then!

Yup exactly! As a correlative, sperm can theoretically live for over a week - but in reality, most don't survive half as long. Although I know of several confirmed instances of sperm living that long, whereas I've never seen evidence of an egg successfully fertilised more than 12 hours after O.

Since sperm can take up to 12 hours to capacitate, the egg's short lifespan also explains why BD on O day has such abysmally low odds. Forget about the next day!

The 24 hours was NEVER meant to accurately describe how long an egg lives. That was never the intent of that length of time. It was meant as a theoretical window to PROTECT people from unwanted pregnancy when using natural family planning as a birth control method. No one ever intended anyone to take that 24 hours as meaning "this is how long eggs live", instead it's meant to mean "the absolutely crazy-longest amount of time we could possibly, in our wildest dreams, imagine an egg possibly living, one in a million times under ideal circumstances". It's because people don't WANT to get pregnant, tyring to avoid conception, not a guideline for how to achieve it!!

Thankyou for all your advice everyone! Well I'm even more confused today because I've just got a positive opk strip this morning - it's been darkening for the past 24 hours (Wednesday), but I'm almost certain I Od on Monday. Which makes my peak on CBD 3 days earlier than +opk. Man I'm so confused! If I was Oing today - do I BD or not?

I would guess you will most likely O Thursday if you got your first real positive OPK strip on Wed. I would BD today/Wed if you want a good shot at conception. Thursday will most likely be too late. Otherwise, conception from BD 5 & 6 days before O, while not impossible, has pretty low odds.

How long have you been on the diet? If over 12w, I would attempt today/Wed. If not, go with the long cut off.

Thankyou Maidentomother, i haven't really been strict on the diet as this is more of a gentle sway as i plan on having another bub in the future - so if this baby ends up being a boy, ill go all out strict sway next time haha but i eat most of the right foods anyway.

I think i will BD tonight as its 4 days since last BD, even though my body is telling me i Oved on monday but the OPK strips are saying positive today :worry:

then that will be me for the month!

Monday - I had steady smiley on CBD & almost positive OPK strip (these strips then turned negative until i got a clear positive this morning (wednesday)

Hi Maiden,

Sorry to jump in but what do you mean by saying if not been on the diet for over 12 weeks to do a long cut off?? Do cut offs help if you haven't been on the diet long enough?
Or am I reading that all wrong? Sorry if I'm being completely idiotic.

Grace, without temping you can't know when you Oed but as those digital OPKs are more prone to errors I'd personally go by the strips.

Pinkbutterfly, no, I didn't mean to imply anything like that. But since time on the diet is the most important factor, I don't recommend having well timed BD attempts unless you've been on the diet for 12+w, or don't care too much about gender. But timing/cut offs don't sway regardless of time on diet, that is for sure.
