View Full Version : Not wanting clear nub?

Hi everyone. I have a strange request and the opposite of what usually is posted in here. I want to go completely team green and therefore don't want any idea what my bubs nub will lean towards at my 12 week scan. So my question is when people say 12w and say 1 or 2d is early for a guess as a nub can still rise does that apply only if its a flat straight looking nub? Is it possible at this gestation that the nub could already be on the rise and therefore have little or no chance of lowering? I don't even know of it works that way so apologies for my ignorance. I want to see my baby during the scan but I don't want to see the nub. Will I need to ask the u/s tech to let me know when they approach that area? I'm worried I'll get a rude tech that will dismiss my concern.... I don't even know that I would know what I'm looking at but I don't want to spend my pregnancy convinced its one gender or another because of a nub. So if at 12w the nubs are indeed the same and both are flat and straight then I will aim for that gestation. Sorry for my rambling explanation and TIA for your answers :) oh and I obviously wont be posting a scan pic lol this is just a chasing info only post :)

It can be obvious at 12 weeks. If you don't want to know, tell the tech to let you just see the face and that's it.

My 12w u/s clearly showed a nub a number of times. I'm not 100% of what the particular nub means, so technically it's still a surprise. Try asking them to please warn you when going in that area. Although , there's a bit of side view action in a 12w scan so it's really hard not to see a nub to be honest

Thanks NBP and milkmaid :) think I'll just have to tell tech I only want to see the face :)

At 12 wks it would still be possible whatever you see would change. How much do you know about nubs? If you don't know much then just avoid reading how to determine gender using them.

With DS2 I was trying to see the nub in the scan but she kept moving around so much it was hard to get a good look when I was trying. I did get a print out with a nub just by chance and spent ages analysing it! Ask for the photo just to be of the face and chest so you don't get tempted to try to work it out later :)

I'd bet your tech has heard of the "angle of the dangle" my tech did and I told her it was interesting to me and that I wanted to see the "nub" just for fun to guess. She did warn that it's not accurate at all and I did not see the nub at all during the ultrasound (I was looking) but she did give me a couple of printouts with the nub which I attribute to being because I asked about it.
I would think you could chat with your tech about the theory and just tell him or her that you want this baby to be a surprise so you don't want to see the nub at all.
