I started doing the cardio about a week ago doing Walk at Home videos on youtube, starting with the half hour and building up to 60 mins yesterday (I didn't realise how unfit I really am!) but today I'm so sore, my lower back is hurting and I've got shin splints. My legs feel so heavy and I just cant face doing an hour of it again today when I have to walk to and from the school twice later today while pushing my almost 35lb son in a pushchair.

I know its normal to be a bit sore starting a new exercise regime but I was just wondering if any of you other ladies have been in the same position as me and did you push through and not skip a day (I skipped Sunday already) or have a break and try again tomorrow? Should I take it easy and not over exert myself until I get more used to the 60mins?

I was hoping to make my first attempt in late August (depending on whats needed once I get my custom plan back) and I'm afraid if I dont get into the 60mins 6-7 days a week soon I'll be leaning into boy sway territory :worry:

If you're in a lot of pain I would give yourself a day off to recover, because if you push yourself too hard and end up pulling or spraining something, that will REALLY sabotage your ability to exercise!

Could you make the exercise less intense or do something that uses different muscle groups to avoid strain as you're getting used to it?

Thanks for the reply!

You're right if I keep pushing through I might go too far and not be able to do any exercise, especially as I have problems with one knee already. I think I'll go for something less intense until I find I'm not so sore afterwards.

I'm so surprised that I'm sore at all as I'm always on my feet, with 3 boys I'm lucky to sit down at all most of the day lol!

I pushed through, but all I was doing was walking at a normal pace on a treadmill and my only pain was in my legs, not back. You don't have to kill yourself, just walking at a normal/quick pace for 60 minutes is enough. When I got my girl I was just doing brisk walking on the treadmill for an hour each night. The cardio is recommended 6-7 days, but you can do 6 days and take a day off to heal. Taking one day off this far fro your sway probably won't hurt anything.

I think I was probably pushing myself too far too soon when I'm not used to it. I was red faced and sweating by the end of the hour! Going to take it down a notch until I'm used to the cardio :)

I would push through if your in alot of pain could you try swimming or drop down to 5 days per week? Think it is better that than push yourself to injury and then have to give up on the exercise. Sometimes when I am stiff and sore I find exercise helps. Good luck with it!

be sure you're stretching really well before and after, I have found that to help tremendously.

I push through if I can, but don't beat myself up if I can't. 6 days a week is preferable but 5 days a week would be OK too. It's better than getting an injury and not being able to do anything! I'm wondering if maybe you need to mix up your routine a bit? I bought a cheap exercise bike and I use that on wet days, otherwise I take the pram down to the local running track and walk/run with my toddler, and I've just found a mums and bubs group fitness place that looks after my kids while I exercise.

Thanks so much for all the advice! It's really appreciated :) I've also just realised I really should have upped my water intake (duh!) so I'm guessing lack of hydration can't have helped! Rookie mistake! Can you tell I've never even been inside the door of a gym lol!

Babybun, with your health history you would be among the people who will benefit so greatly from even mod. exercise that I have put mod. exercise as an option in your sway plan anyway. Take a break as needed and just pick it up in a day when you're feeling more like it.

Thanks atomic! I skipped today so I'm going to give it another go tomorrow, just not over exert too much :)
