View Full Version : BFP but I have AF right now

purple
July 3rd, 2016, 01:38 AM
Ok, so I decided to test with an IC test before taking clomid tonight just to be on the safe side. The faintest line came up so I was quite surprised as I have AF and it is full normal flow, not just spotting.

I just popped out to get a get a FRER and have a strong line after about 1.5 - 2 hour hold. I would be 15dpo today.

I was due for a blood test at the FS Tuesday so I could try to get there tomorrow (although tricky as I'm taking DS1 to an appointment).

I just can't feel happy as I'm sure it is already doomed to miscarry if I am bleeding now! The only similar thing like this is when I got pregnant in 2010 and I had brown spotting then a late BFP and it was a blighted ovum.

I think you should get a blood test to chek your beta levels as soon as possible. Wish things could go easier xoxo

Now I'm worried it could be ectopic as it seems quite common to be ectopic and get a period still.

I think I better stay away from google!!

I hope everything turns out ok Purple. Lots of women have bleeding in early pregnancy. My own cousin didn't find out she was pregnant till she was over 8 weeks because she says she had a totally normal period!

As hard as it is definitely try and stay away from Google. I'm guessing bw will be first port of call? Be great if you can get your first draw tomorrow so hopefully you'll know after Wednesdays draw whether things may be looking up or not. There is nothing worse than being in limbo. As essnce said (hi essnce - *wave) enough women experience bleeding during pregnancy that they can make a TV show out of it ('I didn't know I was pregnant' is the name - just in case you hadn't heard of it)

FX Purple!! I had bleeding with my DS3, but it was after I had my BFP. I think it was around 5w mark.

I also had a BFP with my chemical. I was 14dpo and had strong lines on a FRER and even a digital test. My doc said that the blood can cause a false positive to occur. However, my beta was high around 101, I believe. It went down to 89 two days later.

I'm hoping and praying that it all works out Purple!!

I had a full on 5 day period (I thought so anyway) and ended up with a baby 9 months later.

I was SHOCKED at my ultrasound to see a baby on the screen instead of just a blob LOL. She was like "I think you're a little further along than you think."

Thanks.. I got my blood taken this morning. She did say we need to make sure it is in the right spot when I said I was concerned it was eptoptic. I'm still bleeding exactly like a normal period.

I hope I'm one of those ones that has a period and then a normal pregnancy but I think it is more likely to result in miscarriage so I'm going to assume that is what will happen (but I will avoid drinking and the other stuff to be avoided in pregnancy still).

Pbn3
July 3rd, 2016, 08:02 PM
When will you get results from this initial bw? I don't suppose it will tell you much though until the next one? Are they waiting to see if numbers double or will they do an internal scan to try rule out ectopic?

I got the results within 2 hours. My hcg is 51 but my prog and e2 is only baseline. Will have repeat test Wednesday morning.

I'm hoping it goes down tbh as I don't want to be monitoring to rule out eptoptic. I don't think healthy pregnancy is one of the likely outcomes.

No pain but it would be too early if ectopic I assume. I did have some feeling on my left side like a radiating dull ache but I maybe I'm expecting something so I notice it more?

If I hadn't taken that test I would have no idea and be in the middle of taking clomid right now. I think it is only because of a similar thing happening to someone on this forum that I even thought to take a test!

I am so glad you thought to take a test before starting the Clomid, ever since that happened to me this year I demand a blood HCG test before starting any new medicated cycles, better safe then sorry. Fingers crossed for you today Purple that you have great numbers. I really hope you get your Rainbow Sticky bean and it's in the right spot.

So today's hcg was 145. Up from 51 two days ago.

Progesterone is only 2.9 but had risen from 1 something.

Will get more done Monday. She says she has seen them go up and down then resolve itself. Obviously I need to be on the lookout for pain but it would be too early for that yet.

I asked her how common this is and she said it happens a bit and normally they find out midway into the next cycle when hormones aren't at the expected levels. Maybe they should always just do hcg bloods before starting medicated cycles?

Latest results are in (and they made me wait until 2pm to finally call!)

hcg 2500
prog 28
e2 still on the lower side

the hcg doubling time is 29 hours which is pretty fast. They want to do a scan next week to check where it is to rule out ectopic. Most the info I see on ectopic the double time is slow but I think I saw a few cases where it was normal doubling time.

I have to keep an eye on any pains but I think I just notice every little niggle now. I have some sharpish pains (no that painful) on both sides but it could just be normal pregnancy stuff. I'm pretty sure ectopics don't swap sides!

I really don't know, if I hadn't had the late implantation and AF then I would hold onto that hope but I really think this was doomed to fail from the start.
If my levels are still rising I will worry about it being ectopic still, although most ectopics hcg rises slowly but not always. I have read about some rupturing as early as 6 weeks so I'm a bit worried about waiting until close to 7wks for a scan.
I'm tempted to go to the hospital to get checked but as I'm early they will say there is nothing they can do. If I get bad pain I won't hesitate to go though.

I have been thinking more and more how happy I am with just my 2 boys. I don't think I want to go through another 1st trimester again!

I think they normally do scans around 8 weeks to confirm a viable pregnancy so they are doing mine early but I wish it was earlier! At almost 6 weeks they would be able to see if it is in my uterus or not.

The funny thing is I actually wanted to wait until 8 weeks for a scan when I got pregnant again as last time I had a scan at 7wks and saw the heartbeat which then gave me false hope that all was ok. My FS said he likes to do them at 8wks as they get a better idea of the viability.

July 14th, 2016, 09:27 PM
Is it too early for placenta previa to cause issues?

Hcg today was 10800 so doubling time about 48 hours. Before it was about 30 hours but it is normal to slow down anyway.

No more blood tests, just a long wait to this time next week for the scan. Hopefully nothing eventful happens beforehand.

Thanks for all the support :)

No, it isn't, you can have bleeding right away from PP because your cervix has more blood flow, especially in early pregnancy(and is also closer to the exit, if that makes sense) so as it's trying to burrow its way in there it can bleed.

Ok, that's interesting.. could explain late hpt from implanting lower in the uterus. Although I'm just speculating while I impatiently wait for the scan.

Update again... my anxiety was making me crazy as I was so worried about it being ectopic that I went to women's assessment to get checked. 2.5 hours later I have had a scan and can confirm it is in my uterus!

It was measuring 5.5 to 6 weeks with yoak sac but no fetal pole yet. I'm not going to worry about that yet as it is early and sometimes hard to see. I have never had a scan this early and my uterus is tilted. I'm just relieved my tubes aren't going to rupture.

Just had the scan today and the dr found a hb of 121 which I also got to listen to. The measurements are on the small side at 6w 2d but he was really positive as it has progressed nicely since the hospital scan.

I put my dates at 6w 6d based on ovulation but I think it also implanted late so could that explain slower growth at the start?

The dr told me to be positive so I guess I should take his advice :)

Now it's a long wait until 12wks for another scan assuming I get that far (sorry.. I'm still working on that positivity!)

After my best friend had 3 losses in a row she went to one of those ultrasound places every week to hear the heartbeat till she could find it at home with the doppler she bought. It really put her mind at ease. I'm not a fan of frequent ultrasounds but she was so anxious of losing another baby that it was worth it. Her DD is now 2 months old!

I will think about organising and extra scan as I'm also worried taking the progestrone will mask a missed miscarriage so I don't want to get all the way to 12wks to find out something happened weeks before hand.

Purple, I'm not sure if you will see this, but I am praying that my story turns our like yours. I woke up today and started bleeding. Pink at first, then has turned to red, with tiny clots. I called my doctor, and she had me come in right away and they did an ultrasound. There is something in my uterus, but it's too early to see/hear a heartbeat. I thought I was somewhere between 6w1d-6w3d, but she measured me at 5w5d. Cervix is closed and sac is implanted where it should be, so it's unexplainable bleeding at this point. I'm still fearful of miscarriage, but reading this gives me a sliver of hope, but not a big one! My initial appointment is set for next Monday, the 23rd. My very first pregnancy ended in a miscarriage, then we had 4 boys, and more recently, a badly failed adoption. So, I'd really love for this to be a sticky baby!

Did you bleed quite a bit? Did you have symptoms of pregnancy? My husband thinks I'm pretty emotional, and I guess he's right. But no breast tenderness or nausea, which I know not everyone gets.

If any of you ladies see this, can you please be praying for me or sending post thoughts my way? Thanks!

Hello, I had this recently. Got bfp then next day started bleeding with clots. Everything was fine. Did they take your HCG level again and check it had increased? Thinking of you

No, I’ve never been checked. I think they will Monday through if I make it in. Just feels like a regular period. Tampons okay or a no-no?

I personally would use a pad. I don't know if tampons are a no no. Hope all is ok. Where are you from? Could you go to a women's clinic over the weekend?

I could. My doctor gave me her cell in case I need her over the weekend, and she’s on call as well. I need to keep myself busy today, but the bleeding makes it kinda difficult!

This happened to me with my DS3. I was so scared I was going to miscarry but it turned out I had a SCH (subchorionic hematoma). It resolved before the end of the first trimester, and I went on to have an uneventful pregnancy. I sure hope the same works out for you too 🤞🏻[emoji1317]!

Did you have smallish clots too? I guess the biggest one was like dime size, and kinda flat. I've been cleaning house to keep my mind busy. Should be spotless soon! Then a nap! Just praying this little one is one tough cookie! Boy or girl, I could care less right now. We have four boys, so a girl would be kinda cool, but a boy is pretty amazing too!

I did have some very small clots. Freaked me out! Hang in there! I’m hoping to read good news after your appointment! Hang in there!

LM - just in case you didn't read this I had a full 5 day "period" and yes, with clots, and was pregnant the entire time, I lost a twin but had a living baby in the end.

Did not ahve any symptoms of pregnancy at that point and in fact did not even know I was pregnant for another 3 weeks because i thought I had my period!

Thank you for replying! Praying the same happens for me! I keep remembering you having your period and still having a healthy baby! Going to my appointment with hope tomorrow, but will also be okay if it’s not the same outcome. I do believe that God has his hand in this, no matter the outcome!

Well, I guess this one wasn’t meant to be. Just got back from the doctor. So because of the miscarriage, I’ll start a different thread with ALL my questions, Atomic! :)

Thanks Atomic! I think I posted in TTC after Loss. And, I did find your notes on miscarriage in another area!
