Hi everyone. So we are swaying for a girl. We attempted on sunday (cd 12), as i usually ovulate on day 16. I have been tracking with opks this month and had a positive in the morning on cd 16, faded by the late arvo cd 16, and i just did another on cd 17 (4pm) and its again positive. Im not sure whats going on. I dont tempt as i am a shift worker and cannot take my temperature consistantly.

Any ideas?

It will be very hard for you to fall pregnant from an attempt 4+ days before ovulation. I would have another attempt asap.

It doesn't matter how close you dtd to ovulation, it matters how many attempts you have. To sway girl you need to have one attempt when you get your positive OPK. If you got a positive OPK on CD 16, then you will probably ovulate either CD 17 or 18. There is slim to almost no chance you'll get pregnant from an attempt on CD 12.

Going off my cm.... i had heaps (while wiping, in my underwear) of ewcm on cd 16, and today cd 17- total decrease. Does that not indicate o to be on cd 16?

Not necessarily. It's impossible to accurately pinpoint ovulation to a particular day from opks and ewcm. You may have o'd yesterday, today or you may o tomorrow. We won't know without a monitored cycle. However if you are wanting to sway girl I would try to have one more attempt. That's just my humble opinion anyway.

Im too scared lol. We did it just the once in the 'window' and have had 2 boys by doing just that! Im steering clear of o this time around in hope that we will concieve a girl based on the opposite of what we have done in the past.

You have to do what you feel comfortable with! But I encourage you to have a search through this site and the resources, Shettles theory of fast and slow swimming sperm has been truly debunked. What sways girl is the amount of attempts in your fertile window. For a girl you have one attempt, for a boy you have multiple attempts. Have a good read through the TTC girl section.

Your OPK and how long they take to go negative don't tell you when you ovulated.

I would have you try with another attempt. If you are really ovualting it's going to be pretty hard to catch an egg that far out. Timing doesn't sway http://genderdreaming.com/forum/gender-swaying-general-discussion/7691-trouble-timing.html but it is of course always up to you if you want to use it or not. If you want to use it, you may decide you prefer to stick with the attempt you've had this month and just wait and see what happens.

No, it doesn't. WE have not found CM patterns to be very predictive of ovulation with many people noticing a drop in EEWCM 1-2 days before O even occurs, and then others having it 1-2 days after O. I had it for 2 days after O in the month I conceived my daughter.

You don't. You can get close using NFP methods but cannot pin down day of O. The only way you can really know what day you ovulated on is having blood tests and ultrasounds at a doctor's office. The claims that are made on other sites about how to detect O with CM are unfortunately untrue (and this has been proven in scientific studies where even highly trained experts could not pin down their O day any better than 1 in 3 times using either temping or CM patterns.)

And that is totally fine if that is what you want to do. What we urge you to do, though, is not stick to Shettles timing forever while adding tons of other things that sway blue. Most of us on here have 2-3-4 or more Shettles opposites and so it makes us nervous to see a person get overly focused on timing since we know it doesn't work. :)

Start off doing the sway tactics you want and see if you get pregnant. Maybe you will. Or, more likely in our experience, you WON"T get pregnant with a super strict sway and you will then need to decide what to change in order to get pregnant. Drop the things that do not work and cut odds of conception BEFORE you drop the things that really sway!!

The problem with "doing the opposite" is that you have to do the opposite on the things that are actually swaying. Too many people "do the opposite" on timing or whatever and then miss the big picture that the real reason they had boys was diet or lifestyle or some other thing entirely and then they end up with another boy!!

Thank you for replying :)

I am doing the diet as previously have been an over indulger and have eaten mainly a diet fit for boys!

Excellent!! That is the most important thing and then if you want to try timing too, that's fine. I just hate to see people rely on timing because it sure didn't work for me (4 times LOL)

I am on to day 4 of positive opks tested both morning and night. What does this mean?

It doesn't necessarily mean anything, I would go to every 4 day attempts from here on in.

It can simply mean that your body is taking a while to clear the hormone, or it may mean that you geared up to O, then your body decided to wait a couple days, then it geared up to ACTUALLY O, or it may just mean you need to try a different brand of OPK.

Omg! I just got my bfp this morning!!!!!! I didnt think it would be possible as we dtd once on cd 12, ovulated anywhere from dc 16 to 20 (positive opks every day). Faintest bfp on interest cheapy so I took a first response and BAM!!!!!! THERE IS WAS! i think the tender boobs was my biggest sign for me as i only got that when prenant with my first baby!

Did you have any unprotected sex after that?

My guess would be that you either missed a positive (sometimes urine is dilute so you miss the earliest OPK) and then ovulated before you think you did OR Oed the absolutely earliest CD 16.

The odds are 000001% you got pregnant with an 8 day cutoff. just doesn't happen.

No unprotected sex after. I did opks same time every day from cd 9.

Either way it doesnt matter now!

I'm not saying you missed testing, I'm saying that it's entirely possible that the hormone, while detected by your body and it signalled you to ovulate, did not get in your pee in a high enough concentration to register on the tests. So you could have actually had a positive more like CD 14 or 15 and it was just in the early stages and didn't show on the OPK strip, but your body still "heard" it and it triggered ovulation.

The LH is like a message. Your body can "hear" it at a whisper and even if it starts "shouting" later on, it was that first "whisper" that sent the message. That is why we go off the first positive and NOT the darkest, because your body can hear the "whisper" and does not need the "shout." :)
