View Full Version : Husband was on prednisone - timing?

Background:
Hi! This is my first post, although I've been following this site for about three years. I have two boys. I swayed with the second but still got a boy. My husband was on cranberry, licorice, and peppermint tea -- and I did the girl diet and peppermint tea. Didn't work, but boy I love my son! <3 Anyway, my husband has confirmed high testosterone, so I feel like my only chance of having a girl this time around is to limit the number of sperm that make it inside. As we're both about 35, we're planning on compressed frequent release (rather than abstaining).

Question:
My husband was on prednisone for lung inflammation between May 19th and May 24th of this year. I've read that prednisone lowers testosterone for a while after the drug is stopped (but I haven't seen anything about it actually affecting the DNA integrity of sperm). So, I'd like to use this as a factor in my sway. We're coming up here on 74 days (the avg life of sperm) from when he started the medication. I will be ovulating in about a week. Does anyone have a guess at when testosterone levels are a factor in the sperm cycle? For example, would his sperm lean girl if we did DTD when the mature sperm were "manufactured" while he was on the medication? Would it be better to wait and use sperm that were "manufactured" in the month after he got off the prednisone? I just got an ultrasound, and I have a bunch of active follicles. Need to decide whether this is the week or not. I don't want to do it if it's likely the prednisone incident would boy. I like the idea of this month because it is July and we have lots of thunderstorms right now (negative ions). I conceived both boys in the fall.

Thanks!
EJ

Hi EJ and welcome out of lurkdom!!

No one knows the answer to your question, unforunately (regarding testosterone, and when they matter for sperm production). We honestly don't even really know how swaying works exactly - does T even sway for your hubby, and if so, when and how?

You are a little mixed up about how sperm is produced - they aren't in little compartments by the day the way you're thinking of them and it is very doubtful to me that anything that long ago is really still going to be a factor by now anyway. This explains it a bit better. http://genderdreaming.com/forum/gender-swaying-general-discussion/10156-jellybean-factory-%96-understanding-sperm-count-frequency.html

Fascinating -- I hadn't seen the jelly bean analogy. Looks like I will be relying on compressed FR with no extra benefits from prednisone in May. :) Thanks so much!!
