View Full Version : I'm switching teams! Best weight loss strategies from pink diet masters?

Well, not really switching teams, as I'm kinda on the Team Baby now (I'll take anything, as I doubt I will actually ever get pregnant again)....but I've gained 35lbs on this stinking boy diet for the past 15 months, and it's time to drop it. I feel terrible about myself, and since my DH has issues now, there is no point in me swaying blue anymore. I need to lose this weight. I've read in bits and pieces about some of you that have had really amazing weight loss on the girl diet.....what are your best strategies?
I used to be very girl friendly, but I think I mostly swayed girl because I worked out like 2 hours a day, which I can't do anymore since I work so much now.
Any advice is greatly appreciated! I don't feel like I know how to "diet" anymore!

Sending you TONS of :HH:, Lola! Okay, here's my 2 cents...Regarding the weightloss, I really suggest joining MyFitnessPal.com or a site like it to log your food. It's free and super easy. Last summer I lost 25lbs. in 2.5 mos and it was nearly painless. If you start logging, then you understand food better...not just the cals, etc. but how it affects your body. It's pretty interesting actually. I prefer the MFP database over the others b/c it seems that everything I eat is already in their database. You can add your own recipes to the database as well. It kind of makes eating well fun.
I also suggest a few other things that really helped me:
-Little to no carbs past 1pm or so
-Skip bread and pasta and instead fill up on other things
-Lots of protein (especially of the veggie nature like nuts, beans & legumes) as it'll fill you up
-One huge salad a day w/lots of healthy veggies
-Try to eat only whole foods and slowly cut out processed stuff
I know this isn't really the girl diet at all but it seems to work like magic for me.
I'm sending you every last particle of my boy dust and thinking good thoughts for you! :HH:

Thank you, OOTB! 25lbs in 2.5 months is amazing! That is what I need to do. I'm just so USED to eating all this boy diet food, and breakfast now. I used to never be a breakfast girl. I guess my stomach has grown in capacity as well. I really do try to eat healthy, but something has just tipped the scale here and BAM, I gained 35lbs in a year. I don't work out as much as I'd like to, and if I start again, which I know I need to, I will need to do the 5am thing, which I'm really not excited about. (With kids and my demanding job, I'm booked from 6:30am till like 9pm!). All of your suggestions are great, though. Thanks again, and hope you get a little lady this time!

Wanted to add one more thing....About 80-85% of losing weight is what you eat. The remainder is from exercise. If you monitor your food, even w/out much exercise, you'll lose. I'm not saying don't exercise b/c your body needs it & you'll be toned but as for actually losing weight, focus on food first. You'll be one hot Mama in no time! Bet you'll be preggo too. After not TTC w/kiddo#1, it just magically happened. Thinking good thoughts for you!!!! :HH:

Hi Lola!
I'lll give you a rough form of the girl diet that has made us lose a lot of weight
No breakfast
No snacks
A diet low in protein, fat and calories
I eat pasta or rice as my staple food for meals with a vegetable, Parmesan, olive oil, lemon. I sometimes eat White bread with jam too! I've had very little dairy - no milk, no cheese except Parmesan, very little butter.
I have eaten a lot of sweets which has helped me get through the day!!!
Hope this helps, it's not much fun!!!

Lola, I put on 8lb in the 2 weeks after I got my BFP! FFS! I'm pretty sure alot of it is salt and/or early pregnancy bloating me up - my rings are tight but were falling off even a week ago - but still horrendous! I really don't want to put on that much weight that quickly so I've signed up online for Weight Watchers (I had to lie a little bit and say I wasn't pregnant but there's absolutely no chance of me starving myself so I'm comfortable with that!). You can eat whatever you want but each food has a points value based on nutritional information and you have a daily limit to stick to. It's been pretty good so far!

Hey Alexis! How are you? Not swaying anymore either, I gather?
TTC5, gotta just be Team Baby after a while, right? LOL
Zan, I was thinking about WW online also.....I got the food tracker app also, but I am so busy that it's hard to remember to do it, lol. I like it, though. My sister (who is incidentally TTC also now, and wants a girl for her 1st) did WW online and lost like 25 lbs in the first 2 weeks.
I've started skipping breakfast again and just going with the b'fast of champions, a giant half-caff coffee. My tummy is roaring at me all day, but I know it will shrink back to it's original size at some point soon and not require so much food.
Did you pink ladies have this experience? How long does it take? LOL

25lb in 2 weeks! Tell me you mean 2 months?!! It is good - I'm only a few days in but I've lost around 4lb of my post LE diet blow-out bloat!!
I think after a week of no breakfast it gets a lot easier. Good luck Lola :-)

Nope I'm definitely not swaying anymore! I gained 15lbs since April. I'm off the diet but still trying to work on my cm. No more temping, opk's, or testing before AF is due. We are kinda semi-NTNP lol. Gonna let God take control and let it happen when it happens. In the mean time, I need to lose some weight!! And FAST!! Thinking about trying Adipex again since I had good luck with it last year (lost 35lbs in 2 months), but I don't think it would be good to take while TTC.

Yea, that is me also. Trying to lose the weight, but still taking vitamins and drinking green tea, just dieting though, no blue diet at all. What is Adipex? Some weight loss aid? I have been thinking about that also, just for a month or so. If I get a bfn this month (which, uh, I'm sure I will), I may pop some pills for a couple of weeks, maybe even take next month off and just shed this crap. Alexis, maybe we should make a thread for the "barely swaying" crew, both pink and blue? Or you need to come hang out over on the blue thread again. Miss you!

My weight loss secret is also good for boys - eat nuts for breakfast. I eat 1/2 c of nuts every morning for breakfast with tea (have done this for years) and not only is it a super healthy meal and easy, but it keeps you from getting hungry for hours afterwards. There are actually less calories in 1/2 c of nuts than you might think - only around 500 or so - and it keeps you going until lunch, with a little willpower.
Healthy fats of any kind are actually beneficial for weight loss because even though they have calories, they are more satisfying and keep you feeling full longer than carbs do. A mashed avocado mixed with salsa is both boy friendly and a good lunch for weight loss.
Also, studies indicate that eating calcium-rich foods, which you may or may not have been avoiding as part of your sway, helps with weight loss. I love the Yoplait light yogurts for a snack or dessert and if you mix the yogurt with 1 cup of blueberries, it's also pretty filling.

Thanks, Atomic! What kind of nuts do you eat? A mixture? I have not been avoiding dairy at all. I didn't buy that part of swaying with IG much, to be honest. I was having a greek yogurt or a cottage cheese serving every day, but now I think I am going to switch to low fat or maybe 2% fat products at least. And you got me hooked on the Fakamole a long time ago, lol! I do love that. Actually, I've lost about 10lbs in the past 2 weeks just going back to my regular diet (which kinda sadly includes no breakfast, but I have been eating a Larabar at about 10am because of the growling tummy at work). I am so gonna do the nuts for breakfast, love that idea.
We're just taking it one day at a time, not losing hope, but changing our mentality to "this may take a while." I am hoping that once a fresh sperm cycle comes about with 3 months of the fancy vitamins in his system, we may see some luck.
Thanks for your input, everyone!

Adipex is a weight loss pill. Also known as Phentermine. I got the prescription from my obgyn last year. Lost 30lbs in 2 months but it stopped working for me at the end.

Really just wanted to say congrats on the weight loss though! That alone is going to help with perspective and make you feel better in general; all good things :)

Alexis, does that prescription make you have the heart stuff, like is it the epinephrine kind?

By the way, this I would totally do for 2 months, taking a break, too. I may ask my doc about it.

Lola, the green tea is a good one for weight loss, it encourages thermogenesis which means the body naturally heats itself up, so burning more calories. I saw my sister the other day adn she'd lost noticable weight, I asked if she was dieting, she said 'No, but I'm drinking 5 cups of green tea a day and I just keep losing weight?' Maybe make a flask for work. I found it was even quite nice cold aswell:agree:

I actually remembered you were eating the dairy, I sorta threw that bit in there for others who were reading the thread!! Remember, full fat dairy does help boost fertility and lowfat dairy may hurt it for reasons that we don't totally understand so you might want to make the switch to skim temporary and start up with the full-fat closer to when you're going to TTC again.
Thanks for your input, everyone!
I switch between almonds and walnuts, whatever is on sale! Cashews as a treat.
I really think you will see an improvement in only a few months on the sperm supps - KFX that it's sooner rather than later!!

THANK YOU! Hope you are right. I'm getting him back on DHEA also....have a sneaking suspicion that his T levels are low since he is always tired and has a very low sex drive. (Grrrr) I am not going to be too hopeful until December when he's been on them for a few months. He's been eating nuts like crazy too, which I hope also helps. xxoo
