View Full Version : When should we have our attempt?

My typical boy mum personality is really coming through here, but I need to work through this and I guess I'm hoping for some guidance.
I was due for my depo shot at the end of July. I wasn't expecting my AF to return early August since I had heard it can take months for you AF to return but here she is a mere 10 days after I was due to get my next shot.
We *could* attempt this month or September. I've been doing the diet and exercise for 12 weeks now. However if we were successful this month or next month it would mean I would be very unwell with morning sickness throughout October and November. These are my absolute busiest months at work. I am a freelance real estate copywriter and I work for myself. It would be incredibly difficult to work the amount that the real estate agents will demand when I'm so crook.
I can't not work as it's taken a long time to establish these working relationships and I have no one to fill in for me.
So the obvious choice is to wait until October to ttc. However my concern is here is that the high-paced, "winning" type stress that you get from being really busy at work will be in full swing during an October/November sway.
Ideally I don't want to wait until December as 1) the diet and exercise will be harder to do during the party season
2) the age gap between my eldest and this baby is weighing on my mind a lot and I'd prefer it closer not larger
So you can see my conundrum. Attempt in August (first month off BC) and suffer with MS throughout my busiest work period. Or wait until October but take the risk of blue type stress swaying. Argh I'm doing my own head in!

Just try asap! Chances of conceiving with 1 attempt aren't great anyway, it may take longer then your average person!

I would also try now. Since it may take a few cycles of trying, paired with the stress you'll feel later... I would just do one attempt at O. To me, I'd rather do it when I feel confident that I've been on the diet, etc. instead of waiting to do it while I'm stressed out, which would be likely to set me off the diet (also a typical boy-mom personality, lol). It's your call obviously, but I totally understand the need to hash it out so you aren't stressing about it anymore! Sometimes you just need to type it all out so you can stop worrying so much haha.

Just my 2 cents, but id agree to go ahead and do it! My mom had zero MS with her girls and she DID have with my bro. So who knows, maybe you get lucky and dont have MS too bad and its manageable! (or is that wishful thinking) ha.. Im a typical boy mom too so i understand your dilemma and the ability to think so far ahead and plan this out .. but even then it could take time to get a bfp and it puts you in another month which could bring other hurdles! I planned to ttc in May and i pushed that out to July because i wasn't happy with things for May should the outcome be a bfp. We ttc in July and got a bfn anyway..
Good luck with whatever you decide xx

While normally I would tell a person in this situation to TTC, as a fellow self-employed mom I do think you may be wise to wait. It takes years to get those working relationships in line and build your reputation and you can lose that so easily (for really very little reason!!) and once you lose someone's business it may not ever come back again.
I do want to mention that the holiday season, while everyone fears it, has actually turned out to be easier for a lot of people than they thought it would be. It's because even the LE-type holiday foods can feel like treats and so you focus on the stuff you can have and don't feel so deprived as you might think. So I'd hold off till Oct. and if it takes thru December, you may not be as hard-pressed sticking to the diet as you think. (I know the child-spacing is stressful, though.)

just to clarify, this poster did have a positive OPK and then what I believe to be a short LP.
FM - your situation is different, it does sound to me like you did not O and had an estrogen drop that triggered bleeding. Can you tell me more about what you guys were doing this month???

Well I haven't been doing anything different I don't think except I've started taking fibre with every meal. I am just wondering if maybe it is the depo messing with my body?

I have a coffee or two every morning, for lunch I have some polenta with veggies, dinner I have white rice or pasta with veggies, then I have some lollies and a decaf coffee at about 8pm. I usually have a glass of wine a few times a week.

Drop the fiber, it may be absorbing too much of your fat and your body can't make enough estrogen.

^^^that is not a super high fat diet to start with.
Depo can mess you up for a while but i do want to see you upping fat intake and skipping fiber until this rectifies itself.

ARGH atomic I'm CD13 and I'm spotting again! Which means AF is on her way... AGAIN! What on earth is going on?? I dropped the fibre, some days admittedly I am quite under my cals/fat/protein limit but then other days I'm not so I figure it all balances out? I am exercising 6 days a week. Today for instance I had 2 coffees both with full fat milk this morning, for lunch I had mashed sweet potato/pumpkin (7 grams fat) with half a head of broccoli and I had a piece of milk chocolate, then for dinner I had this flavoured rice (about 450 cals, 6 grams fat) and two glasses of red wine. I'm pretty hungry now so I may have a snack before bed.
I have some clomid (given to me by a friend) would that help my weird cycles?

Uh, you need to be eating 40-60g fat a day. If the totals are correct that you included here, even with the milk in your coffee and chocolate, you are way too low in fat. I would highly recommend you don't ever go below 40g- 30g tops, because doing so sends signals to your body to stop ovulating.

My guess is that is what is going on here if you've been eating like this for a while. Always stay in the limits- not above or below.

Maybe drop the intense cardio regimen as well? Maybe your body is in complete shock from you overdoing it? And yes fat needs to be like higher I think! Argh so frustrating! Hopefully it goes back to normal for you!

It doesn't balance out over time. We're already at the minimums for healthy pregnancy and keeping your cycle going so it is very important to not drop below the minimums. If you're regularly not getting enough, your body does not want to take a chance on pregnancy (remember, it has no idea what is going on) and it shortens your cycle to make sure there's no chance you can get pregnant.
ARe you counting the fat and protein in fruits and vegetables?? Those are free and don't count, meaning you need to get 30-60 g fat (and I'd prefer to see you on the higher end of that more like 50-60 g)
The other thing I can think of is that you previously (about 2 weeks ago) had midcycle spotting, not a true AF, and this is the real thing.
I can't have you on Clomid without knowing more about what is going on. If your E levels are low and that is causing bleeding, then Clomid may aggravate it. I'm sorry I know it is frustrating.
Since this can be related to the Depo I would prob. call the doc to ask about it.
