View Full Version : Ovulation and Opk

I wanted to ask if anyone thought it was possible to ovulate before actually getting a +opk?

I have been charting for months now and using opk and DTD at + opk and not getting pregnant and somehow I think I have been releasing an egg before I get confirmation on this.

So I am on cd11 and had a faint line on a Opk, but on cd8 I had clear wet cm not stretchy, cervix was high. Cd 10 I checked and still had cm and some pink blood in my cm when I wiped and stomach cramps, did an opk and that's when I got the faint positive, cervix was soft and wide open last night cd10.

My temp has not spiked yet either to reflect that I have actually ovulated.

Any thoughts as to what is going on? We DTD on Cd8. 11 cycle TTC. My gut feeling is that I have been missing it completely every month because I am relying on my temp and opk and I think when I finally get that, it's too late especially when it's the time I think I should be ovulating.

We do try and do the E4D method, but it doesn't always work out due to work schedules, and we don't Dtd much after the fertile period ends as generally my LP is about 12 days according to my bbt chart. Cycle length can be anything from 24 to 28 days.

When I fell pregnant last time, I remember AF arrived on October the 5th, hubby returned from the USA on a work trip on the 11Th and we Dtd on the 12/13th and I somehow fell pregnant, from 1 attempt and it was a boy, but I had such a boy friendly diet/ lifestyle. So that means I would have fallen pregnant from a cd8 attempt and that's what's got me thinking about all of this.

I'm no expert, but opk's don't wotk for me. All I ever get are faint lines (positive ?) even in cycles when I later got BFP (unfortunately ended up mc, but that's another story). I think signs like cervix position and cm are more reliable.

Thanks Grace, appreciate your reply. Will have another attempt tonight cd12, so hopefully that covers it.

Welll...it's possible to miss the start of the surge (like if your urine was diluted) but no, you don't O without having a surge. The surge is the signal for O to happen.

My suggestion is to go to e4d plus one additional attempt. If it doesn't work out quite right with work, that matters not, just DTD the next day (so example if it gets to be 5 days, that's ok, just DTD then and then every 4 days after that, plus another attempt at positive OPK) and you HAVE to keep going even after you think you Oed. That's key, because if you do O later than you think you'll stilll be covered.

The odds are pretty slim you O on CD 8,9, 10. It is totally normal for you to have CM days, even a week in advance of O, and your cervix can open sooner too (esp after having a baby or two). I suspect that your last boy, you got pg with a 3-4 day cutoff and that is possible. I serioulsy doubt you Oed on CD 8 or 9, although it's possible.

keep going AFTER you think you Oed too though. I see this happen too much where people stop bD on CD 12 or whatever thinking to have a cutoff or assuming that they Oed, and then what if you don't O till CD 16 that month?
