Hi yall

I have been tracking my ovulation for a few months now and noticed that I ovulate soon after my positive OPKs... usually about 12 hours. I know it is recommended to DTD every 2-4 days and then 3 attempts at a positive OPK. If we were to do this, it's likely we would only get one attempt the night of my positive OPK and maybe in the morning after but I may have ovulated by then, and definitely would have ovulated by the next night. Does this matter? Should we have more attempts before my +OPK which is consistently day 16 (like make sure we DTD on day 14 and 15)... or is the every 2-4 days still recommended until +OPK?

Thanks so much in advance ladies... hope you all are doing great <3

If you're regularly Oing on CD 16 or so then I'd def. have an attempt CD 14-15 range.

Thanks Atomic! I am so grateful that you are so experienced and knowledgeable about this stuff! I feel like I know so little. Do you suppose attempting on all 3 days (14, 15, and 16) would be beneficial or would it be best to stick to just 2 (such as 14 and 16 or 15 and 16). I know I've read about frequent release swaying pink but I'm not sure if 3 consecutive days qualifies as "frequent." Also, once my temp rises and indicates ovulation, what's done is done right? And any further attempts will be for pleasure only ;) ? I'm not quite positive about when the actual baby making occurs inside the body!

I just want to clarify you are swaying BLUE, correct??

Frequent release means your husband releases outside of you 7-10 days in a row before any attempt that you could possibly get pregnant from. What you are suggesting is NOT at all frequent release because your fertile window is open and all those attempts would have a chance at yielding the sperm that fertilizes an egg. That would be good for blue. I would have more people do it exactly that way but so many people are terrified of doing SHettles, that's why I came up with the 3 attempts at pos OPK idea. If you don't believe in Shettles (which I don't having 4 Shettles opposites) then it's fine to do exactly what you say there and have 3 attempts 3 days in a row. :agree:

Just to answer your question the baby only is made when the egg is ovulated. But the sperm from the earlier attempts hang around inside you and then those are the ones that go on to fertilze the egg when it shows up. So even though the egg is not yet there, those earlier sperm will still be there lying in wait for it and for reasons we do not know, more sperm and more attempts sways blue. :)

Yes, swaying blue :) Thanks so much for the detailed response! We will definitely try to go for 3 in a row if my hubs can pull it off hehe. The every 2-4 days has been pretty challenging in itself. But I'm sure he will find a way in order to up our odds for a little man (now taking his vitamins, that's a whole different story...)

Ok if that is an issue, I would make an effort to possibly stretch out that 2-4 days prior to your fertile window, more to the 4 days end of it and not the 2 days to ensure he's able to have attempt in fertile window.

What I do not want to see anyone doing is sticking religiously to 2-4 days attempts and then have hubby not able to complete the transaction in the fertile window!

This is our first month ttc and we have been DTD every 3 days. We were planning on trying cd14, 15, 16 this month so we BD last night (cd14) and I was fully expecting to get a positive opk today on cd15 as I have so predictably the past 4 months but it's so, so negative... what the hell!??! Maybe o is delayed from the stress of prepping and dealing with Hurricane matthew... or maybe the stress of actually ttc this month.. who knows.. no question... just freaking out here and needed to get my worries out lol I hate when things don't go as planned 😣 will probably skip BD tonight and pray that I get a positive opk tomorrow!
Hope that you are doing well atomic and anyone else who is reading this <3

Good plan, have a day off and then attempt, then a day off, etc. and soon you'll get the positive on the OPK.

So sorry you have a lot to deal with and hope the hurricane behaved himself. :)
