View Full Version : DTD every day or two attempts??

Ok so we have been trying one attempt and occasionally e4d or even e3d a couple of months since January. I am not pregnant, although a few months I had done the Le too hard and had a ridiculously short luteal phase. I am now very lax on the diet (having started it almost a year ago!!) and I am really tempted to do every day this next month. I have heard anecdotally from friends that they got their girls from DTD every day. I know it lowers sperm count etc, but is this going to be less or more pink than have maybe 2-3 attempts around ov? I would love some expert advice! I'm so fed up of this now and just feel I am only capable of conceiving boys. I tried so hard with the Le by this far in and I just don't believe I will ever get pregnant so it's so so hard to keep it up at all :-/

I think it's time for SMEP. This increases the likelihood of conception, whereas DTD every day (I'm assuming you meant DTD every day from when AF ends until ovulation) drastically decreases the likelihood of conception. I know your friends with girls got their DD from this pattern, but very few people actually can conceive from this. Especially with you being on the diet as long as you have, I just don't see this being the best option for you.

SMEP = sperm meets egg plan. Once you get your positive opk, you BD that night and the next two nights (for a total of three nights in a row). Take the 4th night off and then BD the 5th night. After you BD the 5th night, I would continue to BD every 3 days or every 4 days the rest of your cycle or until you get a BFP.

FX and GL to you!!!

XXforhubby do we know how much SMEP sways one way? Is it super blue friendly?

In cases where someone has been TTCing for a long time and hasn't gotten pregnant, it is a good way to maximize the odds of getting pregnant. So in this case, it is pinker than DTD every other day or every day in the fertile window (both sway heavily blue).

For someone just starting out, has a fair amount of weight to lose, and time, it would sway too blue to do this off the bat. This is best for people that have been TTCing awhile or don't have time on their side.

Hope this makes sense!

Don't DTD every day, go to SMEP

There is a long explanation for this but I'm in a hurry now so please bump and I will explain it to you

Thanks everyone. I guess I am just worried SMEP means I will def def def get another boy... It seems to be very boy friendly... So every day after AF to ov is just not going to work, do you think? Does it just lower the odds of conception because it reduces sperm count?

Exactly. It dramatically reduces the odds of conception because by the time you get to ovulation, he's shooting blanks by that point. Or he can't keep up, and you guys take a few days off here and there putting you in a MUCH more blue territory than SMEP.

SMEP is great for conception and may sway pink because of the three attempts in a row. This will reduce sperm count a bit, but you have the next attempt two days later. I think it's a good for pink when people need to get pregnant quickly in your situation Honeybee.

If you do SMEP at positive OPK, what do you do from AF to +OPK? Unprotected, protected, and how often? Hubby doesn't release on his own so we have to DTD to keep his pipes clean.

We did e4d last cycle because it was my first on clomid and I was scared my cycle would change and I would miss my +OPK. Didn't work though I am not prego. This cycle I will not be doing clomid again so debating on what frequency I should do.

Ok. Longer explanation why NOT to do DTD every day.

On paper, yes, DTD every day may sway pink because your husband gets totally depleted long before the fertile window opens. But you are STILL going to have 2-3 attempts in fertile window anyway. So it is the worst of both worlds, if your husband DOESN"T get depleted by all that BD (or more common, something invariably happens and you miss a day here or there that gives him plenty of time to replenish his supply) then your odds of conception are going to be in the toilet anyway because he'll be shooting nothing but dust, and/or he won't be able to finish when it counts.

PLEASE just do SMEP. It is NOT going to be any more blue friendly than DTD every day will be (especially given that 95 out of 100 people end up skipping days or having DH unable to finish some of these days) and you'll have a chance of conception that is soooooo much higher.

I find that since virtually all the people I have going to SMEP are in the same boat as you honeybee and have been TTC a looonng time that they are still getting majority girls on it. This includes some blue swayers too getting opposites even with SMEP and on an HE Diet (most of my blue swayers who get opposites take a really long time to fall pregnant). So it simply cannot be the case that you can't make girls on SMEP.

SMEP has full instructions on what to do prior to the positive OPK.

It is the worst of all possible worlds because not only may you end up swaying blue, you also don't up odds of conception and in fact may lower them. So you incur the risk of 3 attempts in fertile window for absolutely no benefit since you'll cut your odds of conception at the same time.

Ah - ok, thank you, that explains it really well. Well, fingers crossed for SMEP then! [emoji4]

anyone who is not getting pregnant needs to drop herbal supps like vitex, saw palmetto, and pep tea. Just wanted to mention that in case anyone was using them.

Thanks for this thread, we've been trying to conceive since late 2013, and only 1 pregnancy (ectopic)
The last 2 months we DTD every day 2 days before OPK, and 2 days after OPK, and then the month after we DTD 2 days before OPK and 3 days after.
No BFP.
Reading your post atomic, I am thinking maybe he was just shooting dust lol.
Am going to try SMEP now
