Hello,

We recently had a girl-friendly, two to three-day cutoff, partial ejaculation "attempt" (around September 20th, ovulating September 23rd). "Attempt" is in quotes because it was a failed pull-out (we weren't really "trying" this month), but of course we'll be excited if I turn out to be prego. Anyway, my son was slowing down on breastfeeding quite a bit, which is why I was able to ovulate. However, in the last week, he has picked up again, possibly from teething. He is a little over two years old. My question is this: Could the breastfeeding interfere with implantation? For example, could it make the lining too thin? If so, I will have to be more willful with the weaning. If we did conceive, implantation would be today or in the next few days. Anybody know anything about this?

Thanks!
EJ

It wouldn't impact implantation. Your lining would have started to thicken before ovulation anyway. I got pregnant with DS2 while breastfeeding DS1 and also conceived twice while nursing DS2.

The lining can't be made thin because it happens before ovulation occurs.

The ONLY possible explanation that breastfeeding might lower odds of pregnancy (and just to be clear, I do NOT believe in this at all, just explaining the theory) is that cramping in the uterus from breastfeeding might "push" an embryo out. I personally do not believe this to ever occur and we have good data that suggests it does not. I think that a few decades ago, people were just generally anti-breastfeeding and went to a lot of lengths to deter people from it however they could, even when the facts did not support it.

I also got pregnant twice while nursing and I was nursing A LOT both times. The second time I was actually tandem nursing two. So if it could affect anyone, it would have affected me, but I was still able to get preggo that way. :)

When I conceived DS2 I was still breastfeeding 12-13 month old DS1. I clearly remember him nursing like a newborn in the 2WW that cycle. :)
