I've been having pelvic pain, and my doctor thinks I have an ovarian cyst (she ruled out ectopic pregnancy). I'm going for an ultrasound in a few days to confirm. I've never had one, and now I'm worried it will hurt my fertility. Has anyone else here gotten pregnant with having had ovarian cysts? She says the typical way to prevent them is BCPs, which I don't mind taking but I already have a copper iud in place and was hoping to get a better idea of my cycles before we TTC this summer. Thanks!

Cysts are very very common and shouldn't prevent you getting pregnant unless they are abnormally large and need surgery or something. I have PCOS which come with cycts for many woman and they can make for more painful ovulation or periods, but totally able to get pregnant still. I am 18w pregnant now and I had an ultrasound just about 2 weeks before I conceived that showed "multiple" cycts on both ovaries, but they were not too large. I was on metformin to help with ovulation and hormone balance. Good luck!

Yes, I had one about 3-4 years before I conceived my 3rd, and went on to have 3 more children subsequently (and no more cysts.)

Frankly I think it's a bit extreme to be suggesting BCP after one cyst?? A majority of women will have one over the course of their lives!!!

I thought so too. If it's just a fluke and not something chronic I don't think I need the BCP.
